Actually, Tangled, the other new princess films, and Disney's animated upswing would be nothing without Princess and the Frog.

Ororo Munroe I fail to see how Princess and the Frog influenced Tangled other than by telling Disney what not to do. There are plenty of clear influences from Tangled in Frozen.

Shady Doorags I would say that prior to Tangled's announcement, which wasn't exactly the loudest, compared to The Princess and the Frog a few years prior. They hyped The Princess and the Frog up for years prior to its release date. People were more abuzz about The Princess and the Frog because it was the first hand-drawn animated film that Disney had made in years since their decline and nail in the coffin with Home on the Range. Plus, its setting in (New Orleans) America with accompanying music, a large Black/African American cast (as opposed to all of their films from the last several decades), even more People of Color that appeared on screen, and finally an animated African American princess was a humongous deal--and from the Disney studio no less! People had been decrying Disney for a long time because their main Princess lineup was so White, with Women of Color princesses or characters that were left out or off of major franchising/products. I agree, Frozen was important because it smashed box office records and generated an unbelievable fervor for its female characters, and with the titular 'Let it Go'...but when the reviewers said IMPORTANT Disney Animated films I would have placed The Princess and the Frog on this list, instead of a shout-out that tsk-tsked its missteps but praised its significance and historic importance. But, I understand that important is in the eye of the beholder because there's a plethora of things that could mean importance...social, political, economic, digital/artistic, etcetera etcetera.

+Ororo Munroe While I can see that Disney WANTED Princess and the Frog to jumpstart the Disney Revival, the credit should honestly go to Tangled. What you're describing is hype, and you're indeed right about it. But hype doesn't relay results, which is what this list is mostly talking about. Princess and the Frog was not really talked about much after people saw it, nor did it really positively influence Disney. Had it done that, we would've seen said influence in later movies, but the only movie to be 2D animated after it was the new Winnie the Pooh movie and some movies to come would still feature an all white cast. Tangled went back to the old Disney format of storytelling, even with an all white character cast, but used a 3D animated style, with Frozen following it's footsteps. Tangled was the movie that little girls constantly talked about. Tangled was the movie that made people feel nostalgia for Disney AFTER seeing it. Tangled was the movie that made people excited for the NEXT film. I'd say the Disney Revival would still exist without Princess and the Frog, but not without Tangled.

It does have an awards show, it's The Annie Awards that were started in 1972 by June Foray (voice of Rocky the squirrel from Rock & Bullwinkle)

Examples Inside Out portrayed a realistic way people have emotions. Disney characters portray relatable situations and emotions all the time like Lion King

We can't really say anything about Zootopia for years, what effect it will have, what other studios will do because of it, that'll take time to know. Personally I don't think it will ever have as much of an impact as the movies on this list, Frozen probably had way more impact than it.

Plus, a lot of what got people talking about Zootopia has to do with coincidence of the release. If race relations and police brutality weren't as hot button topics as they are now, Zootopia probably wouldn't have struck as much of a cord as it ultimately did.

While I also consider that film to be the start of the revival era (mainly due to its quality), I also know it wasn't the true kickstarter in the financial ambit. Did you know that it had to compete with motherfucking Avatar out of all things? A princess movie isn't often seen as a serious competition for a movie made by the man who already had made Titanic. Fun face: the next traditionally animated film they decided to make, Winnie the Pooh suffered a similar fate two years after that: forest critters can't do much againist teen wizards, can they?
