Welcome to the Channel,
Today we are counting down the TOP 10 MVPs (Most Valuable Pokemon aka the Best) for clearing the four cups:
Pika Cup (Level 15-20) Petit Cup (Basic & Small Level 25-30)
Poke Cup (Level 50-55) and Prime Cup (Level 100)
These are the Pokemon that will get you the MOST bang for your buck with the strongest stats and best move capacity... in other words, you could pretty much only capture and raise these 10 Pokemon, with the right TMs and Celadon supplements, and that would be good enough to get you through ALL of the tournaments, even on Round 2 Master Ball difficulty.
Thanks for watching!

Love this video! You should do an entire compendium. Go through each and every pokemon via Pokemon Stadium for Gen1 and talk about their move pools, stats, typings and all the different ways you can battle with them and use them in fights. Then do a new comprehensive list of each and every pokemon via Pokemon Stadium 2 for both Gen 1 pokemon AND Gen 2 pokemon, doing the same again but taking into account the changes to the battling meta between the two Gens! I'd probably watch every episode!

These are greats ideas! As much as I would love to do that, realistically it would take quite a bit of time and I don’t have generation 2 down quite like I do with gen 1… Also, talking about every single Pokémon isn’t something I’m willing to tackle, I’ll leave that to the most die hard. A Top 10 MVPs of Pokémon Stadium 2, maybe. I’m glad you loved the video! There are 120 others on the channel, I hope you find something you enjoy ⭐️🏆

I was able to clear the switch port of this with the rental Pokemon, even the R2 version of Stadium. I think Jynx might be one of the single best Pokemon you can bring as far as rentals go, in pretty much every format she is allowed in. She has a sleep inducing move in Lovely Kiss, and has all the benefits of a Psychic type in Gen 1... and then she's an Ice type on top of it. Psychic as a move is too good on its own, that 30% chance to drop Special stat. Ice Punch is probably the worst Ice type move to have in terms of power, but because it benefits from same type attack bonus it gets the job done. Ice Punch also has a chance to freeze, which only happened once for me during that recent playthrough. That's another thing, Jynx might be one of the only Pokemon that can both put things to sleep and freeze them, and both of those status effects are so strong in Gen 1 they had to put a clause on them in the rule sets. I normally don't post but I figured this would be for anyone wondering or watching who is trying to clear the game on the Switch now, since there's no way to use trained Pokemon via transfer pack.

Very nice! I recently heard of people using Jynx from the rental pokemon, I bet you also abused the save states with Lovely Kiss too? 🤣 because that’s what the other dude was saying in this N64 group. Those elemental punches are really cool, I always wanted my Pokémon to have them even if they weren’t super strong. I remember liking Magmar and Electabuzz for their punch animations haha congrats on getting through the whole Pokémon Stadium and becoming a Pokémon master!

@@MarMaxGaming Haha, well I only save stated a couple times before battles I was actually afraid to lose all the continues. Lovely Kiss is 75% accuracy I think? Not too bad. Relearning the Gen 1 mechanics, I think one of the most surprising things to learn was that Dig is actually 100 power like Earthquake. Partial trapping with Toxic/Leech Seed only really works on the opponents last Pokemon too, otherwise they'll switch out. It made some of the rentals not as bad as I thought. They are definitely outclassed by the AI pokemon though, they have way better stats and DVs not to mention movesets... the cheesy strats are almost necessary. Still its fun to play a game without hold items, abilities etc. I love this game, thanks for the content! I enjoyed the video!

I leaned heavy on Tauros and Jolteon trying to clear everything back in the day. Starmie is a beast for sure though, and Mewtwo is almost necessary for some of that Gym leader tower. Great video, thanks for the memories.
@PikangsFutaba
@PikangsFutaba Год назад
Yeah, some of those I didn't use them, but pretty much spot on the best pokemon to beat the entire game, one thing I could mention about Mewtwo is that you can mix-up Substitute (the AI is soooo very predictable when they try to do a stat ailment attack like Thunder Wave, which pretty much you'll see almost all battles in Round 2) along with Amnesia and Recover and just stick with a full PP-UP Psychic to pretty much swarm every other Pokemon in Gym Leader Castle and Prime Cup (not so much against Round 2 Mewtwo, but still helps).

I adore Pokemon Stadium so this was such a treat to watch. A lot of these Pokemon are ones I came to using as well while experimenting across all of the cups in round 2. Same with Gym Leader Castle. Nothing here I would necessarily dispute, though I think Exeggutor and Snorlax are absolutely worth mentioning. Exeggutor is my preferred psychic-type in all the major cups and I think if you catch an Exeggcute in Yellow then it will be low enough level to get it into Pika Cup. Exeggutor has incredible stats across the board combined with key resistances to ground and psychic. I like using it against other psychic types since it will tank their attacks and hit back with its good physical attack stat. Plus it can cripple things like Alakazam with Stun Spore. It's so strong and has quite a bit of versatility when it comes to its moveset. Snorlax is just a beast in every sense of the word. I used an Amnesia set with it and it had so many moments where it utterly demolished the competition in Poke and Prime Cup as well as Gym Leader Castle. Amnesia, Rest and its massive HP stat will ensure that it basically lives forever as long as you don't get unlucky with critical hits. Definitely agree with you on Starmie. It really is obscenely powerful in this game. So much so that I have gone out of my way to not include it on any of my teams. With Starmie you do so many battles on autopilot. It almost invalidates the purpose of other Pokemon on your team with how much Starmie can do entirely by itself. If anyone wanted to get through as much of the game as possible without having to put in too much work across the board, then planning around Starmie is the way to go. It will take down the Pika, Poke and Prime Cups with little resistance. It will also handle the Gym Leader Castle just as well. It may not hit as hard as Alakazam, but the sheer variety in moves it can use more than makes up for that difference. Even the poor rental Starmie saw a lot of use in nearly all the cups when I was trying to win with those Pokemon. The thing is busted. I think one of the major keys to having success in Pokemon Stadium is being able to spread paralysis. It is an incredibly powerful status condition in this game particularly. Especially since they have dramatically nerfed how the sleep status works in Stadium compared to RBY. It's no wonder why seeing paralyzing moves is so common from the enemy movesets. It will make your own Pokemon that much more consistent when you can paralyze certain threats. It's so powerful that I have taken to teaching some of my Pokemon the Substitute TM. Substitute is actually god-like in Stadium. It doesn't work well in RBY but here it will block everything that you need it to. You will never have to worry about Thunder Wave, Stun Spore, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray and all those kind of moves. The AI doesn't play well around Substitute at all. Even if they know you have that move, they will still go for status attacks as long as they don't have a move that will KO you. As such I've had excellent success by using Substitute on fast Pokemon like Charizard, Jolteon and Gengar. Charizard specficially got a ton of mileage out of it since it was afforded so many opportunities to set up Swords Dance. Similarly to Snorlax, Charizard also demolished many round 2 battles for me and there were even a few instances of it pulling off 1 v 3 situations. I've had it beat a Dragonite 1 on 1 which was crazy. Of course, you can expect Substitute to make Pokemon like Starmie and Alakazam/Abra to be borderline untouchable. It's certainly something worth experimeting with. I loved watching this video. I felt the same with your first video on Pokemon Stadium too. It's just one of my all time favorite N64 games alongside Goldeneye, Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. The connectivity between it and the Gameboy games is a unique experience that I treasure immensely. Though ironically I haven't done much for Pokemon Stadium 2 yet. I feel like I have a lot of gen 1 figured out but not so much for gen 2. I have heard that Stadium 2 is even harder so that will be interesting to take on in the future.
@MarMaxGaming
@MarMaxGaming Год назад
Wow! This was awesome pokemon discussion right here! You’re so right, Snorlax with Amnesia and Rest is crazy.. Exeggutor, I had him for a while on my 50-55 team and he was definitely helpful! I didn’t realize how potent substitute could be in stadium against the CPUs, that’s crazy! Playing Stadium when I was younger definitely showed me how dangerous and bad paralysis was! It sounds like you’ve spent quite a bit of time on the gameboy tower yourself, at Doduo & Dodrio speeds?? Crazy how much you have to keep playing over and over for certain TMs, I had a game that I reset at least 8 times after getting Thunderbolt from Lt. Surge lol so many grinds through the elite four for money to buy the Celadon supplements! Pokémon Stadium 2, I beat that game as well with honestly a lot of the same Pokémon but the only difference was that I had to rent somebody to answer against the new Dark types! The hardest or most annoying thing about Pokémon Stadium 2 is its RANDOM level 5 cup where it generates your party for you… so you don’t get to pick, which means you are going to waste a ton of time on bad attempts unless you reset several times for a decent team! I’m glad we could bond over some Pokémon Stadium, bro! I also adore it.. the audio video always bring me back
@dogeyes9038
@dogeyes9038 Год назад
@@MarMaxGaming Haha, I have spent an ungodly amount of time at the Dodrio tower. I didn't want to use the item duplication glitches so I did do some amount of resetting for TMs. Though in my case I minimized it by using only one team for the Poke/Prime Cups and Gym Leader Castle. I used my in-game Red team for those cups which consisted of Charizard, Nidoking, Raichu, Snorlax, Exeggutor and Lapras. They handled round 2 without issue. Definitely needed to do some extra resetting for Petit and Pika cups though. Those additional runs would at least go far as making it past Rock Tunnel which would include getting Thunderbolt from Surge, Ice Beam in Celadon and Psychic in Saffron. I ended up trying to avoid having to use Earthquake, Fire Blast and Blizzard since they are later into the game. Admittedly Earthquake isn't really that late, but I found Dig to be an acceptable alternative. More of that time was spent just training my teams. It is always really interesting how you end up training in different ways according to which cup you are going for. Like the Poke Cup for instance incentivizing that you buff your Pokemon as much as they possibly can without going past the level 50-55 range. Getting the money for the vitamins definitely pays off big time in that regard. Of course, the vitamins are even more potent in the Petit and Pika cups where the Pokemon are low enough level that they risk leveling up too quickly while training traditionally. Though I am thankful that the Gym Leader Castle simply adjusts to your highest level Pokemon so you will never be disqualified from participating in that mode. The team registration feature across all modes helps a ton too. Those dark types must be pretty tricky since they have fairly esoteric weaknesses. I remember having a lot of trouble with Karen's Umbreon in GSC because of that. Her Houndoom was really scary too. It's cool knowing that you have beaten Pokemon Stadium 2 as well. I think I remember that random mode in question being the Challenge Cup. I do like the idea of it. Asking the trainer to adapt on the fly to using a bunch of random Pokemon is an interesting concept. Though I can definitely see it being more frustrating than anything if the game consistently gives you bad luck. Also, I totally feel you on the audio/video for Stadium. The various arrangements for the music of RBY are all so good. The gym leader fight theme is especially awesome. It's all amplified by how hype the announcer can get sometimes. Even the sound effects are phenomenal. The crashing sound of a Pokemon using Thunder sounds like a planet being destroyed. It's amazing.

@PikangsFutaba
@PikangsFutaba Год назад
Yup, the AI is really bogus when it comes to Substitue shenanigans by the player side, Starmie, the Abra Pokemon line, Mew (to some extent) and Mewtwo are very busted that way, as the AI (unless your Pokemon's HP is low enough for them) prioritize status ailment moves like Thunder Wave to the point that once you know they have those, you can manipulate the AI to waste their turns while you slowly buff or go bonkers against their pokemon (also really go in situations they can go out with a BANG!!!, as there's nothing more cool that see the AI get salty with their Exploison or Selfdestruct misses), also you depending on your setups, you might can go with stalling poison (Toxic) strats, especially with the trainers that abuse Double Team/Minimize as sooner or later you'll force them to switch pokemon (this also removes the Toxic flag on the Poisoned status, but they lose their evasion buffs on the bright side... especially if your Pokemon has good moves to deal with the rival) or if it's their last one, you can have a guaranted way to deal damage even if your normal attacks misses a lot.

I can't remember 100% the team my bros and I used back in the day, aside of Abra and Gastly for Petit Cup, Alakazam in both Poke and Pika Cup, and Mewtwo in Prime Cup+Gym Leader Castle, so I'll try to mention some of the Pokemon: Petit: Charmander (pretty much with Dragon Rage), Dratini (again, Dragon Rage), Diglett (the other 2 pretty much were whenever we felt like to use), Pika: Jolteon (fast pokemon overall), Starmie (the other 3 whatever we felt to use), Poke: Gengar (pretty much like Gastly in Petit... for the most part in my case I used it to go out with a BANG!!! if the situation wasn't much in Gengar's favor), Dugtrio, Lapras, Jynx (not so good in defense but still), Electrode (very fast pokemon). Prime and Gym Leader... whatever we wanted to make Mewtwo company, my bros. for the most part used the starters (minus Pikachu), me almost always Mew and Pikachu along with whatever I felt to use in the other 3 slots (for the most part the Legendary Birds or Nidoking). Now that if you have access to Gen 2 games or you know how to use the 'M (the one that pretends to be Charizard in Red and Blue, not the one that looks like Red/Blue MissingNo.) or it's counterpart in Yellow known as "Q", you can make busted stuff, like you can use a Hitmonchan with that glitch to let Abra, Kadabra and/or Alakazam have the elemental punches (or of course, pass those to/or from the Gen 2 games with the moves learned with the TMs) and they will wreck the competition easily making most worst cases a 2-hit KO (Petit and Pika Cup get veeeeeeery trivialized that way, Poke Cup not that much but still is busted in that challenge too, my suggestion in that case is to let it keep either Fire or Ice Punch only to complement Psychic and maybe Substitute for the predictable AI when they try to Thunder Wave and of course, Recover). Also, while taking glitches and/or Gameshark shenanigans in the equation... I find it very stupid that Pika Cup has the same Pokemon selection as Poke Cup (granted that some of those can only be used with a GB game, but still... I think that was a programing oversight, as I think you can see a Rhydon and a Dragonite in Round 2 Pika Cup at the AI side).

Slowbro albeit slow, has great special stats, access to amnesia, surf, psychic, thunder wave and rest. Its ability to snowball out of control is nothing short of awesome.

Excellent mentions! Those are super strong and valuable Pokémon. Really enjoyed reading this, it’s always awesome to talk about this stuff.. Snorlax is also really amazing with high HP, special, and amnesia. Thanks for watching bro!

Glad you did! I really enjoyed your video. Even after years I'm still experimenting on both pokemon stadium games. Having a level 20 Alakazam is super broken in Pika cup. It can solo the entire cup on its own in both rounds, if you give it ice punch and thunderpunch and trade it back to a gen 1 game.

Is there any rewards for beating round 2?

You didn't just put Starmie on No. 1! It was always my favourite back then!

So valuable across 3 / 4 cups with such a great move pool and options, simply a must! That’s awesome, good choice! 🌟

What was Arcanine's move pool again?
@MarMaxGaming
@MarMaxGaming 9 месяцев назад
In Gen 1 Growlithe could learn moves like bite, double edge, roar, flamethrower… but Arcanine is most valuable in the lower level cup with Fire Blast, Dig.. his attack is really high, so hyper beam would be good too. For a full move pool, you just have to google Gen 1 move set for them.

Would you ever consider using moves outside of gen 2? Or is that cheating?
@MarMaxGaming
@MarMaxGaming 11 месяцев назад
This is Gen 1, the game won’t allow Gen 2 moves… although, you can teach unusual Gen 1 moves in Gen 2 like Alakazam could be taught the elemental punches and then traded back.. the moves will be highlighted in pink font, but usable, which is super interesting.

@@MarMaxGaming I was meaning the transfer moves that are available in Gen 1 but some Pokemon can’t learn in that generation.

Now try with just rentals lol

Talk about a pain.. I’ve seen the world record speedrun with rentals (not all of it because it’s like 8+ hours) but even with the most optimized teams, the guy died several times on the 50-55 cup just crossing his fingers for critical hits in order to get through… I don’t want those issues

Gyarados is Water/Flying because it's based on a Koinobori, a windsock with the patterns of a koi/carp (what Magikarp and Gyarados are)

Only if it could learn FLY as a flying type, am I right? Haha… seems like a basic requirement

It took me 17 almost 20 years to beat pokemon stadium using only rentals. Pokemon Stadium was by far the most difficult pokemon game I've ever played, and I've played most of them for Gameboy color, advance, ds, 3ds, GameCube, wii and switch. Pokemon Stadium was the hardest.
@MarMaxGaming

Dang!! I can only imagine how tough that was… what did your rental teams look like?? That’s an amazing accomplishment, man… I bet you’ve seen a lot of heartbreak over the years!

@@MarMaxGaming I used a variety of rentals throughout the game. The problem with Pokemon Stadium, is that the AI cheats, moving twice in a row, the one hit KO moves fail 99% of the time but when the opponent uses them it almost always hits. The hardest part of the game for me was the gym leader castle, with the elite four being incredibly easy but Sabrina and Giovanni a pain in the ass. The Mewto battle was pretty easy, I used Electrode, Gengar, Alakasam, Venasaur, Starmi and Slowbro .
