These aren't all supposed to be "bad guys", just mythological underworld gods. The only one on the list that's truly a bad guy is Satan, and if you go with the mythology surrounding him, he's not a god, just a fallen angel.

I love Anubis and Hades. Especially when I play them in SMITE.

Facts

I don't think they're bad, I think they get that reputation from being representations of death, and death has always been something that has terrified mankind for most of history.

And he is often mistaken as the god who collects the dead he doesn’t he rules the dead just like how his younger brothers rule the seas and the sky

Anubis is probably the most well known/iconic Egyptian god yet he’s used as a villain a lot as well. Idk why they use Anubis when Set, who’s already awful, works perfectly as a villain. But lots of people just see “god of the dead” and think bad guy

It doesn’t help that Greece really didn’t like talking about him, and Rome liked discussing him even less. Hell, Rome probably hated the Cthonic deities almost as much as they hated Hera and Athena, and they hate those two because of what happened in Troy. At least if an Ancient Greek saw how Hades is vilified, they’d be horrified by the disrespect… even if it’s only because they’re terrified that he’d take offense and start smiting people.

A lot of people think that Minthe was just his ex trying to get back together with him. And then she made the mistake of comparing herself to Persephone and basically saying how she was going to take Persephone’s place… and she said all that to Persephone. She kinda had it coming. And as for gods who actually aren’t that bad, Ares has never raped a woman, despite the fact that rape was common in the pillaging side of war. And he was always extremely protective of women, especially in his family. He was once captured by giants because he was protecting Hera. He even killed one of Poseidon’s sons for raping one of his daughters. And he fathered the Amazons and taught them the art of war.

@@coltonwilliams4153 Also I’ve never seen Ares as one of the baddies I just see him as an extremely angry and short fused person who’s always focused on war and protecting his loved ones.

Agree in fact he was better then the rest of the Greek gods because when he was upset with you (wish was rather rear) he would only go after you instead of hurting some ells in there stead like every other god. Just look up the story of the Minotaur to see how petty every other god can be.

@@enderethan144 Kronos, but that’s mostly because he was insane. Honestly, none of the Greek gods were evil. They were a collection of assholes, dicks, and spoiled primadonnas. They did way too many petty pranks (look up how Asterius the Minotaur was born), some of them didn’t have a problem with rape (about 90% of their problems came from Zeus being a disgusting manchild who couldn’t keep it in his pants and Hera taking her anger out on the mortals that he either seduced or raped), and they were usually completely unreasonable and way too quick to dole out punishments for the simplest slights. They were pretty much extremely powerful, immortal kings. The Greeks didn’t view things as good/evil, they viewed it as order/chaos. As long as the world was functioning properly, then they’d take the bad with the good. And honestly, for all their pettiness and drama, the Greek gods were good rulers. Really wish they didn’t do any of that rape and shit, but it’s not like God asked Mary before he put Jesus in her, did he? And Ares is generally considered the least favorite of the Olympians, so it’s usually a pretty safe bet that people would consider the god who represents the ugly parts of war as evil. Especially when it was Athens who wrote everything down, and Athens hated Ares with a passion. Coincidentally enough, women were treated pretty poorly in Athens, but were considered the equals of their husbands in Sparta, where Ares was a pretty big deal.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure that the Greeks had a lot of respect for him. It’s just that saying the name of deities is usually asking for their attention, and the cthonic deities and the others associated with death aren’t ones you want to notice you too often. The Romans liked them a lot less, pretty sure the only ones they disliked more was Hera and Athena (for obvious reasons). But I attribute everyone’s reluctance to talk about the Underworld in general for the reason why Christians were able to demonize Hades so easily.

@@coltonwilliams4153 I mean death gods gotta be a death god and do their death god thing It's not a thankful for forgiving role in the spirit world but it keeps the universe in balance. Without them the spirits can just run amok. Especially the ones that dwell in hell. The afterlife in Greek mythology is basically one big pie cut in half. Inferno on one side, paradise on the other and right in the middle is the river Styx Hades just lives there, keeping things in order. I assume it's the same for all Death Gods.

@@furionmax7824 Yep. The only religions that really does the whole good/evil thing is the Abrahamic stuff. Everyone else is about order/chaos, and the rulers of the Underworld are usually the bastions of order. Hell, Hades never really got that angry. There were a few times when he took it personal, and let’s just say that pissing off the gods who decide where you spend your afterlife is not pleasant. Life is fleeting, and the punishments in the House of Hades are eternal.

Number one would definitely be Zeus. Because we don’t want a horny madman going around and plugging womens holes when he feels like it.

@@adiveler Zeus is their father. However, both Wonder Woman and Disney’s Hercules were from their own universes, which means they are not related at all.

Pretty much. There’s theories that he game he suggested to his brothers to divide the world was something he rigged so he would get the Underworld (cause one of the others getting the most important domain in existence would be a disaster). The whole Persephone thing was an arranged marriage that Zeus suggested (mostly because he knew that Demeter would never agree). But the Greeks respected him, calling him Stoic, Stalwart Hades, the impartial King of the Dead. The problem was that nobody liked talking about him because that would catch his attention, and that’s not something you want from a god of the Underworld. Which allowed Christians to paint him as the devil and all that.

@@coltonwilliams4153 Pretty much. Why were the Christians were this stupid. Hades is nothing like the devil. It's not Christianity. Maybe you need to do see reading and research of greek mythology before you he is evil. Not all religion with darkness is evil. The underworld is not hell. They are not a Christian base belief. The underworld has everything and it's just afterlife in general. Who would punish all the bad souls, who would reward the good souls. Tough to think about. He is just doing his job, someone got to it who will. He is just a god with a very important job to do. People think death is evil but you can't life without death. It sad but it's apart of life. You got to expect it. He doesn't abuse like Mythology Zeus not Zeus from Disney Hercules. He is just a very important, neutral god witha very important job to do. He judges for what you do and he how your life was lived. He could caused pain and suffering but he didn't so shut up if I were you.

Exodia is more inspired by Egyptian death masks like the one King Tut had We actually already have an Osiris in Yu-Gi-Oh, which is the sky dragon god! But many outside Japan know him as slifer ✨ And fun fact: Kazuki Takahashi originally designed Dark Magician with green skin. Which was inspired by the god Osiris himself since he’s known for his green skin! That’s also why you see more card art of DM being green skinned rather than the purple version most know. (Sorry I’m a Yu-Gi-Oh nerd 😅)

I’ve seen several times where people would act out how the gods of different pantheons would gather together with those of the same temperament and just chat over drinks. Like with Odin and Zeus talking, or Loki, Wukong, and Hermes getting together and starting shit. Honestly, I’m surprised that nobody’s made a webtoon of the concept. If only I wasn’t a horrible artist.

I heard people started thinking that he rigged it to get the Underworld. Honestly, I would to. I have a mini panic attack at the thought of Poseidon or *shudder* Zeus ruling the most important kingdom in existence.

Yeah I thought xolotl was guide for the dead, or god of death similar to Thanatos, I could be wrong though.

@@jesusgadea3589 Xolotl is more like a guide, when someone goes to Mictlan the first level is the Itzcuintlan (the place of the dog) here lies a river and to cross it you need the help of a xoloescuincle, as they are the one who guide the souls of the dead, but if you ever mistreated a dog in life you would never be able to cross the river and you would be stuck in it forever. Xolotl is the god of these dogs, the guide of the dead, twin of Quetzalcoatl, he may have a rol in thr underworld, but Mictlantecuhtli is the lord of the place, it was for the mexicas what Hades was to the greeks or what Hela was the nordic people. But well we are not Greece, Rome or Egypt, or any other popular (because tv or movies) I supose these people don't even bother to make a more insighful research of the native mexican culture. A shame we are not popular in Hollywood or the TV 😑

It’s almost like the youngest pantheon isn’t actually all that important. Who knew? 😏 Besides, nobody can really agree on whether or not he actually rules Hell, or is just another prisoner of the place, not even the Abrahamic religions know what’s going on with that guy. He’s lucky he got on here at all, considering the fact that this is a list of gods, and as Yhwh/God/Allah’s fan club always likes to point out, angels aren’t gods. Well, they like pointing that out when they’re not all trying to murder each other for stupid reasons despite worshiping the same god. Maybe he should do something about that. @JD O'Neill Speaking of Jewish Lore. Satan was a very minor figure until the Babylonian Exile. And their concept of Hell didn't exist until then either. The Devil/Lucifer/Satan as we know Essentially came as the result of exposure to and synchronizing with Zoroastrianism.
