I actually love Mythology and always find it fascinating when I learn something new about any of the Mythological Pantheons. I will say that, although I do love the MCU movies, with their version of Thor, Loki, Odin and others. The actual mythical stories are far more interesting.

Tyr really had his act together. The most impressive god to me, the more I learn about his character and actions.

Freya was a twin. She had a brother named Freyr. They were both Vannermen and patron gods of young married couples. Freya's battle boar was actually her human lover transformed.

Frey doesn’t even get an honorable mention? Outrageous! He’s the god of peace, sunshine, and good harvest! He’s the Lord of Alfheim (the realm of the Elves), destined to fight and die by Surt’s hands at Ragnarök! Even Tyr thinks Frey’s awesome! In the poem “Lokasenna,” Tyr says, “Frey is best of all the exalted gods in the Æsir's courts: no maid he makes to weep, no wife of man, and from bonds looses all.” Frey is a chivalrous liberator. He at least deserves an honorable mention!

A few corrections. 1, Friday is named after Frey/Frej, the twin brother of Freya/Freja. In Swedish Friday is called fredag, frejs dag. The day of Frey. 2, apples were not introduced to Scandinavia yet at that time and the old poems doesn't call them apples. Just fruit.

A very important god you didn’t mention is Freyr, Freyas twin brother. He was a god of fertility, sunshine summer, rain and wealth. He too had a pet boar named Gullinbusti, and a sword named Sumarbrandr that could fight by itself! He was one of the most famous gods during the viking-era.

I just love any interpretation of Norse or Greek Mythology. Every interpretation whether from Marvel or classic Edda or Games etc highlights another aspect. The Norse (and Greek) myths are just such a great canvas. So much material.

I've always enjoyed the ease with which you can shift accents mid sentence. Being multilingual I know how tricky it can be

I mean there's like less than 20 of them... 1. when Odin drank wisdom from Mimir's Well, *Mimir demanded payment in return, and Odin willingly gave up his eye* 2. *Baldr had prophetic dreams foretelling his demise* , and *the Norns basically confirmed* Frigg's fears ("The mead has been brewed in Hel [...] The hope of the high gods has gone"); Frigg forgot the mistletoe because *it was so diminutive it was basically insignificant* 3. Freyja is the *patroness of Friday ("Freyja's Day")* 4. Odin (and Asgard)'s past tolerance of Loki was due to *an old oath way back in the past* , earthquakes were caused by *painful spasms caused by the snake venom hitting his face when Sigyn/Sigun drains the cup* , and is *pansexual* (case in point: the Fenriswolf/Fenrir) 5. Thor once *crossdressed under (gleeful) Loki's guidance when dwarves stole Mjolnir* , and he had to act as a bride for one of them (who noticed "her" hirsute form & voracious appetite during the wedding banquet) 6. Odin is *also called Woden/Wodin (hence patron of Wednesday ("Woden's day"))* ; another epithet is *Skyfather* due to his wardrobe of gray & sky blue; similar to losing his eye for wisdom, in return for knowledge of the runes *consented to be hung from a tree (not necessarily Yggdrasil) as well as wounded by a spear* , and gaining that knowledge bestowed it freely to mankind; also *bestowed mead to mankind* (who drinking it would make one a skaldic poet)

Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) ( My favorite anime series of ALL-TIME) is based on Norse Mythology. According to the "Top Strongest Wikia" website; Neko Kuroha's Threat Level is " GOD - ".

I am 1/2 Norwegian & into the Marvel movies, so this was important education to me

One that I would add to this list would be Brunhild (AKA Bunhilda) - the most famous of the Valkries. She's probably best know from Richard Wagner's "Ring Cycle" operas. This version was parodied in the Merrie Melodies cartoon "What's Opera, Doc?" starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.

Baldr was the definition of perfect, should be at least 3rd.

I can't believe Frey got a complete pass on this list. Sure, much like his sister, he was Vanir, not Aesir, but he probably was more influential or potentially important than a few who got mentions.

Odin is my favorite! I named my malamute after him! Also, the norns were duel monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! Grand championship.

I remember when I first heard about Odin it was from a game on Miniclip aply titled Asgard about this guy who heard about the legend of Odin and his two birds Huginn and Muninn and he wanted to grab the golden egg they lay cuz riches and he had to take on people like Harald Hairfair, Heimdaĺl and of course Odin himself. Looking back the main character (I don't remember his name) is a brave and strong and ambitious man to try and take on gods just to get eggs which would make him rich. Though he's definitely driven by greed for the most part

My favorite god in Norse Mythology is Ullr; the god of winter, hunting and sports. I truly think that he's an underrated god who gets overshadowed by the more "mainstream" deities, despite him being a really interesting god. Also, I don't recognize Skadi as a goddess, at least not truly. I think of her as being a "goddess by marriage" or at least a minor deity, as she kinda took over many of Ullr's titles. Funny enough, after Skadi divorces Njord she marries Ullr

Didn't mention that 'Wednesday' derives from Odin, as the saxon alternative spelling of Odin is Woden, and Woden's Day became Wednesday

One thing about Odin is his insane thirst for knowledge and the lengths he will go to get that knowledge. Prime example, he wanted to know about the World Tree Ygdrassil so he hung himself from one of its branches, stabbed himself in the side with his spear and plundered through the Tree for its secrets until it quite rightly got sick of him and spat him back out again.

So, Attack on Titan's Ymir is based on Norse god Ymir It makes sense now 😱
