Love it when I get an older top 10 list recommended by the algorithm. I'm always taken by how well thought those themes are and how remarkable the world of perfumery is for us to enjoy and savour. As always, I learn so much from you and the chat. Judging by the response, I need to discover Night Flower. I am still without a bottle of the Cartier despite discovering it the year it came out and loving it immediately, something tells me this will change soon 😊. Many of the Les exclusifs fit this theme, but I can see why you choose 1932. The Hermes VV is a beauty so elegant and subtle.
Hi Monsieur Persolaise. Great to see your Valentine's post. Old world glamour sounds good to me. It's rare that I miss a live, dropped the ball, this time. 😀 Great to see the hyacinth in your fresh flower vase. Victoria Frolova quoted ?? paraphrasing, if left with very little money, buy loaves and "hyacinths to feed thy soul."
Catching later and comment added at the start. My picks are: - Tuxedo (elegant, sexy and a get closer scent) - Le Lion modern Mata Hari…(with a few more clothes) 😁
“Crass Aberrations” was the name of my high school punk band that I just dreamed up right now. Wonderful work as always. Not for the first time, I’ve had cause to marvel at how this channel seems too good to be true, and yet, here it is. Thank you.
For the ones who don't want to spend an arm and a leg to enjoy retro glam, go and look into some of the Agent Provocateurs. I am thinking of the original Agent Provocateur, Miss AP, and Maitresse. And since we are all so much into the comparison thing, lets detoxify us all from the recent obsession of comparing everything and anything to an old Guerlain! The perfumes I have mentioned reflect a rougher Germaine Cellier or Jean Carles territory, if one would have to compare them at all. Besides guys, how about Caron, Lelong, Piver, Raffin, Lubin, Coudray, Coty, D'Albret, Floris, Maurer and Wirtz, Prince Matchabelli etc, etc, etc, for a comparison!?!
Oh my, what a lovely selection! I really want to try some of Les Abstraits offerings. I tend to be hesitant with "RU-vidr" fragrances, but I can't help but trust Eugen and to know you have given this one a stamp of approval helps put my mind at ease. As far as scents in this modern yet old-world glamour category that I have tried, I really enjoy Chypre Siam, Mousse Illuminée and Rostracto from Rogue Perfumes here in the US. The entire house really fits quite perfectly into this category - from chypres, fougeres and ambers, he does it all with a neo-vintage approach. The perfumer/founder, Manuel Cross, is doing beautiful things and is really gaining a lot of traction in the states.
Great theme, I am a confirmed romantic and happy about it so it is perfect! 😁 I was wondering if La Panthere could be considered like old school glamour and there you put it! Also I finally got to see your Eugen interview for Les Abstraits and it is indeed very fascinating. Lastly I don't think I have ever told you thank you for the time stamps on all your videos, it is nk practical. I watch them all in their entirety in the end but sometimes I just want to pick. Like some sented "tapas". That's my Spanish heritage speaking!
Watching this late but have already bookmarked the video so I can easily reference it later because Old World Glamour is all I ever want in my favourite scents ♥️
1932 EdP has a huge hole in the middle. Either that or I am completely anosmic to a whole section. I get the powdery & twinkling opening then after 30 minutes nothing. Two hours later I get whiffs of violet leaf
Mr. P., what a glorious list!! Some absolute favorites on there, with Dryad, Mont de Narcisse, Violette Volynka and the B683 Extrait! I greatly enjoyed this post, thank you!
Civet by zoologist is a fabulous old fashioned pissy floral that I will eventually get a bottle of even though it’s totally not my style, because I can’t stop thinking about it.
Thank you for reminding me of the beautiful leather that is Mont de Narcisse! It was on my want-list for a long time and ordered today. It was very difficult to find so I fear discontinuation…
I actually like 1932 and have it in the perfume extrait, besides the EDP. But then again, I also really like 1957 much more than I thought I would. Of course Le Lion is also in the same category and no other words are needed.
You had me at the title 💖💖💖 I do have a wide range of perfumes, but the old world symphonic perfumes are the ones that transport me. So grateful for the artisans still creating this style in the era of miniscule attention spans. +1 for Dawn Spenser Hurwitz (DSHPerfumes). Her YSL tribute, "menagerie" of animalics, and Pandora using her take on a mousse de saxe base are brilliant. She has a huge collection that is difficult to navigate so I am sure there are others. The one downside of watching your channel Mr. P is you always introduce me to new scents I must have. Love Dryad and wished 31 Rue Cambon made the list! There are a few on your list I must try!
Darn, I missed the live but so enjoying the video, thank you! My first two thoughts were Night Flower by ERIS + Lace Draped Spectre by Solstice Scents. ❤️❤️ Also, as I think about it… Tolu!
I guess 1932! Though I guessed either EDT or EDP. Was driving during the live stream and could not type it. And the person driving next to me probably wondered why I appeared to be talking to myself as I yelled "1932!" :) A wonderful old world glamour perfume. Perhaps of a slightly different variety which is why I like it, though could be why it seemed not to be as well received as others when released.
Dryad is the most complex parfume I have ever sniffed. I like the decant I have. But I don't think it has any sillage or projection at least for 1-2 hours. What do you think?
My favorite classic smelling perfume (it smells like old Hollywood and film noire) is Jasmin et Cigarette by Etat Libre d’orange. It is a shame that is doesn’t last long but it is gorgeous
Yes, symphonic perfumes describes quite well my feeling also about those treasures of the past. I am quite taken with Les Abstraits Des Cendres and in a way it reminds me of an even darker, greener and earthier Tom Ford Italian Cypress that I also love! Great episode and great selection Mr. P. I have to get my nose on Dryad. 🙏
🤣🤣🤣 wonderful Dariush! Why did you not compare Des Cendres to Après l'Ondée? We were already venturing into Guerlain territory and it is the only one of the three Abstraits that has not yet been compared to it!
I love Dryad! However I love and have all of Liz Moore’s perfumes with the exception of Spell No. 25. Liz Moore’s is an awesome perfumer, at least in my opinion.
@@nastyfyme It's hard to pick one. I love Salome, Bengale Rouge, Hera, Dryad, Tobacco Rose, Angelique (which seems to get the least amount of love) and of course Anubis, which was the first one I bought. It would be hard to pick just one, which is why I have most of them except for Spell 25, although eventually I will most likely buy that one as well.
@@nastyfyme Hera is beautiful, but the most expensive of all her perfumes. However, they are all beautiful and you wouldn’t go wrong with any of your choices. I still have a special love for Salome..
I really loved this ep. The older I get, the more attached I become to the grand chypres of yore, and the more I seek out contemporary perfumers who make retro scents in a modern vein. I'll second the folks who mentioned Zoologist Civet and Sacred Scarab. Both fantastic modern chypres that harken back while adding something surprising to the genre.
