Gallythea Jensen does play the “reactory” character in the show so he does get a lot of the emotional scenes. But Jared definitely deserves an Emmy too for when season 6 & 8 finale, and the hug in season 14.

Interesting list. For me though, Deans "What am I supposed to do" speech after Sam Dies in Season 2 is still the saddest moment in the shows history.

The saddest moment is when Samcifer (Lucifer possessing Sam) beats dean up while dean pleas with his brother and says he won’t leave him. Then a sudden flash of memories.

I think an underrated one is when they find out their mother is working with the British and she tells Dean "I am not just a mom, and you are not a child" and Dean automatically responds "No, I never was..."

Honestly, I think Sam's first death is the saddest scene in the show. The whole setup and aftermath of it is perfect and we had no idea if Sam's coming back. It holds so much emotion from both Jared and especially Jensen. My heart breaks everytime I watch it.

S14's episode "Prophet and Loss", Sam's 'I believe in us' monologue. Broke my heart. Over the years Sam's emotions have been played subtly, so when his 'I believe in us" came as a literal punch in the face, Jared's performance just blows me away. And knowing how hard that scene was for Jared makes it even more profound and gut wrenching. And after "Prophet and Loss" I didn't think Sam/Jared could break my heart again until the very next week in "Lebanon" (300th ep) and he gives a very weighty sigh when confronted with John. And Crowley's death should be on this list or at least an honorable mention. Looking forward to Top 10 at the series end.

The second half of S14 was pretty much a bawl fest, lol. S14 as a whole was great, from Sam's role as leader (shoes he filled well in Dean's absence) to Dean's possession of Michael, and Jack's decent into darkness. However great as a whole, it was standout episodes like Byzantium, Lebanon, Prophet and Loss, Gods and Monsters, Peace of Mind, and Moriah that elevated it from same old to great. S14 was like S11, somewhat drawn out but made great by a handful of near-perfect episodes (Red Meat, Don't Call Me Shurley, Just My Imagination, Alpha and Omega).

Hanna m Yeah there are some fantastic episodes in S14, but I feel like for the sake of creating drama they changed certain things about certain character and a lot of the storyline build-up was thrown away. But then we got such great, emotional and funny episodes too and the ending was WOW

The 300th should def had been on the list. Not putting it on the list is not understanding Supernatural. It was the most cathartic episode of Supernatural, ever. How Dean and Sam said "we're good with our lives" at the end. Wow. Cherry on top. But I mean, ALL FOUR Winchesters dining at a table together? Do these people really want to know how hard I cried???

Let's be honest here, you could make fifty "Top Ten Saddest Moments" videos and that still wouldn't be enough to cover all of the saddest moments. Some of mine that weren't included in this video: Sam's death in 2x21. Dean's death in the season three finale. Sam forgiving John in "The Song Remains the Same." Crowley's death. The last ten minutes of "A Very Supernatural Christmas." 90% of "After School Special." The last ten minutes of the season fourteen finale. The last few minutes of "Don't Call Me Shurley." Sam's best memories in "The Dark Side of the Moon." Sam killing Madison. I could go on but I'll stop there.

There are way too many to even list. While Bobby's death is one of the saddest deaths, i would say #1 being Sam's season 2 death and Dean's reaction to it. It still gets to me. Also the 300th episode and Prophet and Loss from season 14. Season 14 was such an emotional one.

Would have definitely added when Dean kills himself to escape the dream world in ‘What is and what should never be’ and everyone is begging him to drop the knife. Also his monologue to Sam’s dead body in the finale of season 2. To me that season is the saddest, along with season 4 and 9.

Saddest moment was when Dean is losing his memories gradually and he is in front the mirror repeating the same sentence until he realises he can't do it...Jensen acting in that scene alone tears your guts out..

Bobby’s death was sad but after that, we keep seeing him at least once every season so the impact of his death wasn’t that bad. But Dean confronting his mother is a real tearful heartbreaker

I almost cried when Dean and Sam died and went to Heaven and Dean saw Sam as a vhild with the fireworks. It was one of the few scenes where you see Dean truly happy.

@@rhysnewlands4697 That's because most of the viewers don't even try and think about the weight it had on Sam. He watched his brother die. Over and over again. While it was his biggest fear. Sam ended up becoming cold and detached and broken at the end of the episode. It was subtle but it's there

Absolutely. That episode is absolutely heartbreaking to me, once we get past the comedy routine. What Sam went through, witnessing Dean dying a HUNDRED times in a row and then just LIVING in that alternate reality where Dean was dead and in hell for SIX MONTHS... that's terrifying to me, and it drives me crazy that so few people seem to even think about what that was like for Sam.

I can't believe you didn't include the season 2 finale when Dean kills Azazel after the ghost of his father John escaped from hell and helped pin down Azazel, followed up by Dean and Sam sharing a silent moment with their father as they say their final goodbye and sense of accomplishment after they finally killed the demon they've been hunting for decades after he killed Sam and Dean's mother, ending with John's spirit going to heaven.

Love the show and love both brothers, but this was heavily Dean-sided. Sam has some incredibly powerful scenes too, and Jared is also a phenomenal actor. Please include more of his moments if you make another installment. And, as others have said, All Hell Breaks Loose and Swan Song deserve spots on the list. Oh, and Sam crying in 2x17 when he talks to Dean before killing Madison to the tune of Silent Lucidity. That was the first time the show made me cry.

Marcella Kryka it’s mostly because dean has a lot more emotional scenes in the show. Sam’s are a bit more subtle but he definitely has some amazing moments too. And Prophet and Loss happens to be my favorite gut-punch of the show because Jared Padalecki portrays Sam’s sadness and anger so well at that scene-and it was so great that he was able to pull it off especially since he had a bad day and said couldn’t really get his head into the acting

Hello There, Sam has just as many emotional moments in the show as Dean, especially in the earlier seasons, they just didn't include almost any of them here. Season four in particular has so many of them, from Dean saying he would want to hunt him, Dean calling him a monster, and Sam getting that fake text in the season finale where he heard Dean disowning him. Edit: and let's not forget Mystery Spot, where Sam had to witness Dean dying (his biggest fear) a HUNDRED times in a row, followed by those extra six months where Sam was alone and Dean was in hell, which got erased after the Trickster turned back time but Sam still lived through.

Cas telling them they are family and he loves them was such a powerful moment because angels don't feel emotions like that, showing how far Castiel has come to empathize with humans and cares for the Winchesters

Great list! You missed out a few great ones though ( IMO): Sam's death at the end of S2, Castiel's death at the end of S12, when Sam beats up Dean to a pulp, while possessed by Lucifer( S5 finale.).

The one that made me to cry the most was in Swan's Song at the end of season 5 when Sam remembers who he is and finally overcomes Lucifer, that whole screen had me crying like a baby.

Episode 300, when they had to send John back. I was heartbroken and cried my eyes out. Fuck Jensen Ackles for being so amazing at these emotional scenes, I hate him for it but I also love him. You just have to cry when you see Deans teary eyes.

I'm not usually a crier, never at TV, but I've cried at the episode where Bobby dies at least three times. The whole build up where he claims them as his own etc and then wakes up just to help them and smile at them, oh god. How anyone can find another death more sad is beyond me. F.

Literally all of season 13 episode 1. Dean standing over Cas's body, not being able to say that he's dead, the prayer scene, him wrapping Cas's body and the "goodbye", and the iconic "My father is Castiel, where is he?". The first 5 episodes of season 13 were very very very difficult to watch. AND CAN WE MENTION THE SCENE IN SEASON 9 WHERE DEAN TELLS CAS THAT HE CAN'T STAY IN THE BUNKER, AND IT CUTS TO CAS'S FACE AND ITS LIKE SOMEONE REACHED INTO HIS CHEST GRABBED HIS HEART AND SMASHED IT, Misha's eyes killed me during that scene (they almost always do) Also Sam's death man 🥲

ugh i cried, i hate crying but this brought me down into a heap of nothing on my work break. Everyone asked me if i was ok and i had to tell them that i just watched a sad video. There reply was "oh ok are you sure because its like you found out your family just died or something". I just said "yeah it felt like it". Then my friend came around the corner and said "SAM AND DEAN WILL NEVER REALLY DIE!!!" now im laughing my ass off.

there are so any sad moments in supernatural for a show based on horror it has so many emotions, one of the best show on tv, i cried when Sam had to kill the werewolf in heart and when Dean and Sam meet John and Mary in the episode In the Beginning

Those were all good but my 2 favorite Saddest Spn moments were 1)”All Hell breaks loose”, When Sam was running to Dean but got stabbed in the back & died in Dean’s arms & 2)Episode “Heart” when Sam fell in love with Madison trying to protect her from the werewolf & she was the werewolf all along. She asked Sam to kill her then it shows Dean in her kitchen bc Sam is having to kill her! I cried more over those 2 episodes even though I’ve cried @ many!
