The fact that you couldn't say the word "pregnant" or show a toilet on TV is just ridiculous. It leaves me speechless over how stupid that is.

Agreed, but it fit in line with the Hays Code of the era, which limited what you could say on screen.

To this day, it amazes me that "Diversity Day" was only the SECOND episode of The Office to ever air. 🤯

It seems odd that Friends could be censored merely by alluding to porn, although nothing is shown or explicitly stated.

Bare in mind, the UK doesn't have a TV classification system like a majority of countries, and last year, Sky added age ratings on their TV guide following technical issues while re-airing 'Game of Thrones', that land them in trouble with regulators.

"Boy Meets World" originally aired on ABC, so they could get away with more mature content, namely underage drinking, cults or the death of a parent. However, the spinoff aired on Disney, which has more restrictions, so their topics seemed tamer by comparison.

Not a Sitcom But Half The Run Of Cops (1989-2020;2021) the episode that aired from 1989 - 1995 on Reelz which probably have something to do with the former ownership with Fox which got purchased by Disney In 2019

It's always great to be reminded that fear dictates what I'm allowed to watch. Guess what, if it TV show gets my panties in a bunch, I change the channel. I don't give a rat's rear end whether or not you are offended by anything on TV. I have never seen Song of The South, but I sure would like to someday. Let me decide what is appropriate for me to watch.

I thought the Friends one was going to be the one where there was a subplot that Chandler joked about having a bomb on the plane and he and Monica were whisked off by security and questioned in a private room. Those scenes didn't make it to air because 9/11 happened after they shot it, but before it was to air. They shot a different subplot. The scene was put on the DVDs though, with a blurb about how they hope these scenes can be viewed in the comedic way they were intended. I have never seen those scenes on streaming.

It kind of surprises me that they censored/removed "Diversity Day" from CC because the show paints it as explicitly something not good.

When the Leave It to Beaver episode was titled Captain Jack, I suspected that the problem was that its subject matter matched Billy Joel's song Captain Jack, which is about, um...self-pleasuring.

Scrubs is my favorite ❤️ show 📺. I assumed you were referring to the season 3 episode where a patient wanted pot before they died but the network made them change it to a patient who wanted sex for the first time before they died. I really don’t remember any black face in the show. It must have been in a fantasy sequence.

I love how the narrator scoffs at the standards of the 50s and 60s insisting on modesty while tsk-tsking racial humor. I imagine if the people of that era were suddenly thrown into our time the opinions would be reversed, particularly in the way we worry so much about "black face" (which ultimately amounts to imagining a tranracial scenerios rather than actually denigrating anybody), but have no problems filming people using the toilet in any way imaginable...which really is gross. It's a fine line, but race-based humor is not necessarily racism, and I would argue that most comedians have made their living by laughing our stereotypes.
