New and experienced turkey hunters often make the same mistakes that cost them spring gobblers. If you can stop making these turkey hunting blunders you will cultivate more opportunities and take more birds out of the woods. Some of these blunders includes, not testing your gear, not being stealthy enough, not scouting, not being able to hear, being called in by other hunters, over calling, trying to spend your way to success, under estimating range, and more.

Don't drink a lot of coffee or water . Eat after the hunt it may help to bag you a bird and remember turkeys can smell smoke. George is telling you how to be successful. Thanks Terry Clark

I can not stress on not giving up on a wells scouted spot. More than once, I have worked birds watch them not commit. I get up to go find new birds. I climb to the ridge, look down, and there is the Tom strutting in front of my previous spot. Not testing and breaking in boots was a blunder I made once and only once.

Another great video that was 100% on the money, especially blunder #10. In my opinion, far too many hunters shoot at a range that is too far for their shotgun and shell combo, instead of having the patience to wait for the birds to come in close. Thanks for sharing.

I know everyone of these blunders. When I first started turkey hunting I did them all! Over time I learned not to make these mistakes mostly through trial and error. On the last one, now, when I find a spot, I range everything in the area...trees, rocks and such, so that when the turkey shows up, I know about how far it really is. Turkeys are quite large and can really fool a person on distance. Also, one time, I called a pair of hunters in. We were all using hen calls. When I spotted them (I don't think they ever had seen me, I played "A Shave and a Haircut" on my hen call. They immediately switched directions. Of all the other turkey hunters I observe in the area, patience seems to be the one that seems to elude them. You might have to wait for hours, but victory is so much sweeter afterwards.

Keep in mind that rustling leaves imitates turkeys scratching and helps bring them in.Also Walker muffs enhance hearing and protect hearing. Use a rangefinder to mark 40 yard distances. Sagittarius only inside markers.

I couldnt guess how many deer I've killed by rustling leaves. People think im crazy, what are you doing youre gonna scare every animal around away.... nope. I make all kinds of noises purposely, try to walk like a deer, dont even attempt to walk silent because its not possible. I may go a mile in the time someone else goes 5, but I know my 1 mile will still be better.

Thank you so much! I see the bad videos too, and I try not to make a video unless I think it can add value to one or more segments of the audience.

Ive always used my 20ga for clay shooting, but Ive been thinking of bringing it out for hunting turkey and waterfowl this year. Ive always used a 12ga hunting, but Id be interested to hear your thoughts on other gauges, and if you ever hunt outside of 12ga? Love the channel, relatively new subscriber. Thanks!

Thank you! I'm looking at doing some 20 gauge videos for next season. For turkey with TSS the 20 and even 28 gauge is very potent. Some 20 gauge shells have just as much tss as the 12 version. For waterfowl, 20 is great with bismuth or tss, I wouldn't go any smaller there.

Good information. One thing I’ve seen happen a lot is hunters get their new super tight turkey choke and I’d call the bird in close and they get excited and just plain miss the bird. I personally think these super tight chokes have cost more turkeys than gotten especially with novice hunters. I’ve had some of these guys just put in their factory full or improved modified and practice shooting cans on sticks at 25-30 yards. Then get them back out in the field with that same setup they’re better off you just can’t attempt that 45-50 yard shot.

I did a podcast on the subject this past turkey season, you should be able to find it easily. It's a hard subject to do a video on and make it look interesting. It sounds very visual, but it's a done of work to make those visuals work good with the camera.
