Is there a video on top ways to break your implements? I had a brand new rotary cutter deck destroyed because of a warped stump jumper. I can't find any information about the commonality of this issue and I can't get the dealer to reply to my texts. The manufacturer says warranty claims must be submitted by the dealer.

Bought a used Kubota MX5200. First day I was clearing some brush and got a warning on the dash. Tractor wouldn't complete regen cycle so took it in for service. Turns out a stick had punctured the EGR system. Added a few grand to my newly acquired tractor.

If you live in Oklahoma pack rats and mud dobber wasps are a real problem. Pressure washing helps with the wasps mud nests on wiring harnesses. As far as the rats, I recommend parking in different spots every couple of days, tie bounce dryer sheets in non flammable areas or cups of green antifreeze ( they drink it), try to park away from trees.

All good advice for sure!!! The key to all of it is don't get in a hurry, and think things through. These pieces of equipment are way too expensive and can be dangerous if you arent careful. My Grandfather used to say you get into trouble when you think you have things mastered....Gotta have respect for the equipment... Great content...

You called out my issue with putting the backhoe back on my 1025R in a rush. Tired and in a hurry, I was lowering the BH down and missed the catches. That pushed the seat onto the controls and the rest was a rush to shut it down, but not before the BH hit the back wall of the carport and nearly ripped the hydraulic hoses. I learned very quickly that if you are in a hurry, walk away and do it later.

1 important thing is dont use the bucket hooks to pick up loads off 1 side of the bucket you can seriously twist your FEL .If you need a single line pick it up in the middle or use 2 equal points of attachment. A friend of mine paid a very large price for doing this

Additional tips to help you to avoid breaking your tractor; When carrying items with the front end loader, carry them as low as possible and drive slowly and carefully with the loader raised. Avoid full lock turns with the loader raised, and avoid using the loader raised on uneven ground. When pulling items with a chain from drawbar or three point hitch, ensure that the chain exits from below the drawbar or attachment, and that you don’t pull from above the PTO height. Doing so could cause your machine to flip.

Heat is disapated from the radiator quickly. The engine creates the heat. The engine is way hotter than the coolant. So when you shut down a red hot engine the coolant that sits in the engine gets above its boiling point. That is a bad situation. The same is true for oil/coolant circulation inside of turbos. Great advice about letting it idle and do NOT shut the vehicle off. Let the coolant and oil coolers cool the machinery down before shutting the unit down. Old time truck drivers used to know this. Many new drivers don't. In fact many trucks now have software to try to mitigate this type of driver error.

No good deed goes unpunished. This winter we got a 6" snow so after I cleared my driveway I went down to my church and cleared the parking lot. I drove over a snow covered curb and scraped the auto- connect mechanism for my mower deck and broke the electric actuator. $1500 later for a new actuator and all was well. Hard lesson to learn.

I will. Back in march I got my 1st tractor. A 2020 2025r. I have fence around and through our 20 acres. (Also new to me) on a couple different occasions I'd be mowing next to it and not pay close enough attention, and on one of those i managed to chip part of my blinker lense on left fender. Another time I lifted the loader but not high enough and scratched the attatching arm also left side. Beginning to think a couple different things; 1 I don't like fences and 2, I must have a blind spot on that side. 😄 I know it's just my own stupid fault.

I am certain no one else has done this, but I was asking my old Yanmar to do more than what it was designed to do. I was using the loader to pull out a shrub. I pulled hard, and eventually won. However, my 4WD kept failing. I took it to the Yanmar dealer, only to discover I have sheared most of the bolts holding the engine to the transmission. The 4WD failed because the tractor became "longer" which pulled the front drive shaft out of the front axle. Hope this was a one-off. Hard to find parts for older Yanmar, although it was a great, powerful, and reliable machine. Lesson learned: just because your tractor can do something doesn't automatically make it a good idea.

Wish I had known about the heavy duty front bucket earlier. I have been using my 2025r for landscaping in the wonderful soil/rock garden of New England for the past few years; leveling out a field, clearing a hillside etc. The number of rocks I have discovered with a sudden bang is beyond count at this point and building the stone walls have roughed up the front edges of the bucket. I even bent the thumb a little on the backhoe at one point. Still, that gorgeous little machine has the heart of a 5r and has never let me down. And speaking of cosmetic damage, watch where the rocks roll when moving them with the bucket. One rock made an escape attempt and cam back to hit the tempered glass door of the cab. It exploded like it had been hit by a shotgun blast. (Also discovered how useful a good seat cover could be to prevent stains!) :)

Maybe weather was coming in, maybe a was physically tired, maybe mentally tired, any way I now just take my time and think things out before I proceed. Equipment is just too expensive now days. Recently spent a few 5-6 hour days cutting pasture in 97-98 degree temps. Toward the evening one day the a/c quit working. I'm new to tractors and didn't have a clue but all gauges were good so I kept working (and sweating). Later I popped the hood to clean the screens and, seeing how clogged they were it hit me that it may be the problem and sure enough it was. A/C worked like a charm after that. Anyway, reason for posting is to make any newbies like myself aware that clogged screens will not just make your tractor run hot, they can make you run hot as well. lol.

I have one recommendation for you.... "CORROSION X", either red or green. Green is a heavier protection and I use both for different applications on my salt-water boat and motors. I rinse them off then spray a light but thorough application of red on the engines. The green I use liberally on my trailer/wheels/lugnuts/etc. Of course, I wash or rinse copiously first... I have read about "fluid-film" but have no experience with it. Hope one of these helps... I have really liked the "Corrosion X".

On the 4720 overheat I'd replace the thermostat while you are in there (they are cheap). Sometimes those don't age well and won't open fully like they should leading to flow issues that are hard to find. Cheers!
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 2 года назад
Hey Reno, yes sir, thermostat is getting replaced. Thanks for the tip!
@wild_lee_coyote
@wild_lee_coyote 2 года назад
Most thermostats use a wax that melts at about 160°. When the wax melts it pushes open the thermostat, letting the hot cooling into the radiator. The problem is when you overheat that can cook the melted wax and even boil some of it off. When that happens the thermostat will not work properly. Usually not fully opening, and not opening at the right temperature. This will lead to more overheating and other component issues. If you ever have a tractor, car, or other vehicle severely overheat, replace the thermostat. Thermostats are much cheaper than replacing a seized engine.

The place where I get my tires done has a policy that they use their impact to put The legs back on and stop and then hand tighten them with their wrench so they don't mess up the wheels. You'd probably have to put 8,000 hours on a compact with before the wheel spacers would have an effect on the axle bearings, and thats assuming you ignore the axle seals leaking before that. No one is likely to put enough hours on for it to be a mechanical issue.

My old polaris ranger (2013) used to overheat on shut off so if the fan would run I'd let the ranger run until the fan shut off. I just bought a 2021 and assumed it was smart enough to have a fan that stays on after keyoff like modern trucks. Not the case. I will be wiring in an Arduino to monitor the coolant temp and keyswitch and leave the fan on if the coolant is above 200 and the key turns off that'll run for like 60 seconds. Just need to make the Arduino power down after it's done so it doesn't kill the battery. Fun stuff.

On my kubota b2650 with mid mount 72 inch mower I had a big problem with bending pivot brackets at 3 point area , seems that there are extensions for shipping that need to be removed on this tractor ? Manual specifically says not to use these on my model but they were left on by dealer , resulting jam up caused 1/2 inch thick steel bracket to bend like a toy , I removed the extensions had the bracket re shaped by local welding shop for the third time now no more problem ! Not necessarily how to break your tractor but more along the lines of how to break your neck. I’m fairly new to tractors and I’ve never put my ROPS down. But I see the way you have yours tilted forward. Is it safe that way? Is it just to accommodate the Rhino Canopy? It just looks like if you were to experience a rollover it seems it would be easy for the ROPS to just fold down on your head. Are they really built strong enough to hold and support the tractor and protect you in that position?

I love my bx23s but with anything in the FEL it's back is way too light. I usually just throw the backhoe on when I'm using the loader. One thing I did was bend a lower arm on my 3 point hitch. A rear blade caught a root when I was pushing backwards and the blade stopped going but the tractor didnt.

Agree with you on the more equip. The more problems and maintenance and storage and... However, having more equip. allows you multiple ways to skin the cat when something fails. So it cuts both ways. I've decided to go with fewer but more capable machines but then it's hard to find something that has everything and can handle anything. I'm convinced the net costs will be lower with fewer problems. But sometimes you may have to wait for a repair. Cheers!

I agree, trade offs both ways. I do like the idea of multiple units if you have projects that just can't wait. I'd be completely dead in the water without having more than one. 4720 has been in the shop 4 of the last 6 weeks.

Cab tractors have an extra radiator that you can activate when overheating occurs! Another "features you may not know about"? I was struggling last year with tall weeds and lots of seeds clogging the radiator, oil cooler, A/C core, etc. I had a sudden idea and turned the cab heater on full fan blast, full heat setting, and climbed out for a couple of minutes. The coolant temp dropped dramatically faster. (It goes without saying that the air conditioner should be turned off since that actually adds heat to the radiators). I was nearly finished with the mowing a large field and was able to avoid a long drive back to the barn/shop by using the cab heater to give just enough heat transfer to safely finish the field. Sorry if somebody already posted this tip.

At the beginning of this video you mentioned that you've not heard of any breakage issues due to the added axle stress caused by the installation of wheel spacers. I have an older BX-23 which I bought used in 2015. For the sake of added stability I bought and installed a pair of 3” Bro-Tek wheel spacers. Five years later I had a very expensive repair. The added bending moment on the axles caused a fatigue failure that not only broke an axle, but snapped the end off the very pricey aluminum housing that the axle rides in. Further, the tractor was jerked sideways by the loss of one back wheel and hit a tree. My employee who was using the tractor said that the impact was such that if he hadn’t been wearing the seat belt, he’d have been thrown off the tractor. (And it wasn’t even going very fast - it was going downhill in low range.) I don't have any particularly high loads that the tractor carries. It doesn't have an excessive amount of usage time (about 1600 hours on the machine). And I try not to abuse it. A good look at the cross section where the axle broke shows that this is in the pattern of a fatigue failure. So my conclusion is that unless the tractor manufacturer says their axles are designed for the added load, you're gambling with the possibility of a catastrophic failure by adding the spacers.

@GoodWorksTractors 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing! I'm sure there's other folks out there that have done it besides you. The point was that it's extremely rare. Thousands and thousands of spacers are in the field. You also installed those spacers to make your tractor feel more stable. Who knows if doing so saved your life or one of your employees lives. It's much easier to fix a machine than a human being.

@@GoodWorksTractors On my Kubota L2550DT I had the front wheels reversed to give it 1) a more stable stance on hillsides and 2) to align the front tires with the rear tires for loading on a ramp trailer. After a couple years and at least $1000 dollars in front axle parts I realized the wheel centers were no longer centered over the bearings. This put a greater load on the outside bearing and as a consequence I destroyed to bevel gear housings and bearings. I DO NOT baby this little tractor, it does a lot of work on a 75 acre farm and now has over 6K hours. Bottom line is I changed the wheels back to the narrow position and have not spent a dime on it since. I feel the four or so inches of loss in width was inconsequential when looking at stability on hillsides. If that four inches stops someone from going over they need to have stopped a while back.

@@jonpeterson2870 I know JD manuals specifically state to only leave front wheels in the wide position when necessary. Not sure about Kubota.

I use the backhoe on my tractor at least 3 times a year. when I get to close to a ditch on the zero turn an I get it stuck I just turn it off put it in neutral then walk an get the tractor then wrap a tow strap around the rops hook both loops on the teeth of the backhoe then lift it up and swing it out. That I would’ve hooked on the back of gator with a tow strap to loader hooks or forks the. Lift up while gator was in neutral then drive the tractor forward. I’ve found lifting up an out is the best way or if tractor is stuck use the backhoe to push yourself out.

another way of breaking your hydraulic equipment is by over taxing your hydraulic system eg trying to lift something to heavy could bend rams using s motor that is to big for the hydraulic flow the motor wont work properly and then you try to compensate for the poor performance and it stresses the hydraulic pump doing damage over a period of time

There's really no good excuse for not having enough counterbalance. I built a ~30" cube, from angle iron (maybe $40 worth of steel) filled it with some old bricks i had from removing a neighbors patio. The whole thing weighs just shy of 800lbs. I have 200lbs of wheel weights on each tire. Keeps the tractor planted even with close to a ton on my forks. I used the same box on my smaller tractor without the wheel weights, and it was stable all the way up to hitting the pressure relief valve. I welded my box together, but it easily could have been bolted together.

Not really related to this video but can you say if John Deere is currently shipping 54" MMW for the 1025r out of Davenport, Iowa? Local dealer ordered one six weeks ago to go on a new 1025r sitting on the lot. It keeps getting pushed back and is currently mid September.

Your small connection on your arm is the case drain for your mulcher head, drains from the pump to the tank, reverse it and it drains tank🙈 pro tip when you change the 333gs engine oil, change final drive oil at the tracks its cheap insurance for how hot they get with two speed

with the over heating problem shutting it off is bad but if its a turbo charged engine its extra bad even if its not over heating if you working a turbo charged engine and shut it off to early its a first class way to roast a turbo. that track loader according to its specs has a turbo if you working it hard let them idle for a minuet or two to properly cool or it can destroyed turbo bearings or oil seal this can lead to the engine eating its own oil and running away if that happens good by not just to the turbo but also the engine. seen this many times people buy dinky little SUVs and tow large caravans making the engine work nice and hard getting that turbo nice and hot then they get a rest stop, servo or caravan park and shut the engine off with out letting it cool they normally get 10,000km on a brand new car and the turbo goes.

I think I've done all of these plus sum more, smashed the headlights, smashed a cab door and rear window, bent a loader, punctured a fuel tank, snapped the pto shaft on the tractor, rolled a tractor, fried the ECU in one, shattered a clutch or 3, blown a sprayer pump up, put a branch through a radiator, ripped a track of a skid steer excavator dozer and a traxcavator, buckled a tipper trailer buckled a bucket to, gotten stuck to many times to count , in my defence shit happens when you use your equipment all year round and average 6000hours a year across the machines and while likely see more carnage in the years to come

You need a "real Gator" and not an "F-350 wannabe Gator". :) Ours is a 2004 HPX4 with no cab, no a/c, no windshield (not even a ROPs!)....just a couple of seats, a dump bed (manual, not that wussy hydraulic stuff), and 4wd. Ours was probably $5k or $6k brand new, and is a beast and a beater at the same time. It works hard and lives dirty. IMHO Deere tried to be too much with the new Gators with heat and a/c and all that creature comfort stuff. They're heavy, expensive, and really moving away from what they were originally intended for; cheap, simple utility vehicles to move people and hay bales and firewood from one point to another. Now they have more luxury options than a Super Duty, with half the capability, but all the price tag. Just my opinion, take it for what you paid for it. ;)

Don’t drop trees on your tractor 😄 Was pushing some debris back to give us more room, and disturbed a tree that had rotted out at the stump, next thing I know I hear a massive crack. I shut the tractor off, and dive off the machine. In hindsight, I probably had enough time to get the tractor out of the way before the tree came down… but why risk it right? Anyways the tree comes down right across the fenders, where I would have been sitting. Thank GOD my boss was right there with a kubota excavator with a thumb and easily pulled that tree off no problem. Ended up busting a ROPS light and cracking a fender. Another time, my boss had the tractor place with the forks around a tree in an attempt to guide the direction a tree would fall after being cut. The tree decided to fall before that, and not in the direction intended. It went sideways, and rolled the tractor on its side. Lost a bit of engine oil and slightly bent the loader frame. We have. It been kind to this tractor. Long live John Deere though. The poor tractor just gets abused left and right and still keeps on ticking 😂
