This is footage of me playing my 10 favourite Zx Spectrum games of 2012, in this video they are shown from 10th - 1st,Chessboard attack is in there and although originally released in 2011 a newer version 1.1 was released by LCD in 2012 and this is when I really discovered how playable this game was.

Who could imagine that after so many years people would still creating games for our beloved ZX Spectrum?! And the most amazing thing is that only now people have realized that using the creativity and intelligence there is no color clash or some other technical limitation! long life for the ZX Spectrum!

Exactly, I don't believe that colour clash was actually a bug moreso it was a limitation that saved on hardware costs. The spectrum would not have been popular if it was expensive so colour clash was a worthwhile compromise. If a game is done right it can be avoided all together and I think a lot of the bad colour clash was the fault of the developers who could not be bothered to figure out where to place the pixels in order to avoid it. Added to the fact that a lot of games were ported from machines that didn't have this issue. Another lazy programming tactic I saw was to simply display all the graphics in one colour so a lot of our game graphics looked bland compared to the c64 etc. Such a shame, but it's good to see new homebrew coders putting in the effort to really push this machine.

It wasn't a bug and yes the costs was an issue. Sir Clive wanted a computer that wasn´t expensive and for a more serious and educational market, and not for (just) games. But despite his serious ambitions, the market turned out another way.. it was with his limitations (colour clash and speakersound) a not too expensive system for gaming... Oh and about the colourclash, while gaming I don't give a damn as long it doesn't give me a 'game over' screen :D

My gosh. Yumiko in the haunted mansion gets the horror-survivor setting that no 2D game in the ZX Spectrum era ever got. Absolutely a merit, and a piece of artwork. Congratulation to its creator. Who is the author of that game, by the way?

Hi Rem It is by `Fun Forge`,i believe a group of Austian? guys,I have to admit it is a real looker and one of the best of the 80+ homebrew games released in 2012,over 100+ games were made in 2011so it has the biggest homebrew game scene for a retro system. Fun Forge it's actually one person, me. But since I'm a graphican and coder, I ask sometimes for help from polish friends for music or Austrian friends for artworks, while I concentrate myself on coding of games and development tools.

Just over 80 in 2012 and 100+ in 2011,visit the World Of Spectrum website (linked above) and in the forum you can see a list of the games in the best game of 2012 poll/thread.Or enter the game archive and do an advanced search by typing in the year for a complete list.

well the zx spectrum scene is very much alive an kicking! :D it is amazing but there is some very good coders devoting time to make new Zx games. Some are really amazing achievements, like Buzzsaw+ featuring a wonderful and stunning multicolor graphic ...check it out!

Yeah i voted for buzzsaw+ in the best game of 2011 poll at the World Of Spectrum,org forum,it is also in my other video -"Best Homebrew game of 2011",i think i put it no.7 in my Top 10 for that year as i respect the work that has gone into even though it is not my favourite genre of game. I am still at the beginning making games using editors like JSWed and S.E.U.D.but hope to progress to using AGD once i have finished my current JSWed editor game Terry The Turtle.

if you scroll down the page of "immortal zx spectrum games" (sorry you tube does not allow links...) you will find a year by year link to sinclair infoseek.. 2013 ha 14 games, 2012 has 56 and so on
