Ambrette is a favorite note of mine. Another 13 is my signature scent, but I’ve been looking at getting a sample of both Atelier Materi Bois D’Ambrette and the Atelier des Ors Musc Immortelle.
When I was a kid my mom bought a bottle of some authentic deer musk - it was her favorite scent, and I loved it too. I haven’t smelled anything that comes close to my memory of that scent recently. The chemical substitutes being used now don’t do real musk justice. I am lucky to have smelled the real thing.
I appreciated learning more about ambrette. As far as I know, the only fragrance I own which has ambrette is Dior Homme Intense, and I do like that one.
Parisian Musc is also ambrette based fragrance, and it’s so potent on my skin. You remind me, that I really liked Scarlet Poppy, if they want to discontinue that one, maybe it’s time to buy it now
Hello, I did not expect No.18 to be your favourite of this category, I have it and I love it, I too think that is a very underrated perfume. It is perfect for spring in my opinion.
I got to know ambrette through Musc Nomade by Annick Goutal. Bought two bottles many years ago, finished both, and would love to buy a third one soon. Super sexy skin scent, very natural smelling, understated and elegant, heavy on the ambrette and featuring other musks too. Reason why it didn’t become my signature scent is because I can’t always smell it myself, but others say they do. I’ve read that the ambrette molecule is very big and therefor, depending on the person and on the day, you can’t always smell it?
My absolute favorite ambrette fragrance is one I’m currently wearing: Poirier d'un Soir by Miller Harris. I involuntarily clench my teeth and release an audible moan when I smell it. It’s human skin; Heated, worked and beginning to perspire. I have nothing like it in my collection and just adore it! 🙌🏽🤍🤍
Scarlet Poppy is one of JMs best. I just wish the longevity was better especially since its part of the intense line. Im surprise you didnt mention Aerin's Ambrette De Noir, have you smelled it, what are your thoughts?
Yes, I seem to love ambrette. I own a couple of the perfumes mentioned, but didn't know of a couple that ghey contain ambrette. I need to try a few more of your list. Thanks
I could not vibe with chanel no 18 2 years ago...couldn't smell anything, but when I did, I couldn't stand it. Now I'm loving le lebo ambrette and another 13 as a daily refresher, out off shower, morning wake up scent...thinking about revisiting chanel no 18. It's been so fun starting this fragrance journey with you! A while back I was at Neimans SF and the SA said that I just missed you...darn it! :) Considering you can just walk to the Krigler boutique at the Ritz, just curious why you haven't featured this house? Krigler IMO is worth every penny.

I've really been enjoying ambrette, I find it really soothing. Love Dyptique's Fleur de Peau! Great list, I haven't tried the Chanel No 18 yet but you've put it on my radar!
Over the Musk immediately came to mind for some reason, so it's great to see it on here. DHI too. Forgot that Korrigan had an ambrette note! Great mentions Sebastian. Ps, have you tried Harvest Mouse yet? More vanillic than I was expecting, but so damn comforting!

I'm really not a fan of ambrette musks. There's something in the note that just doesn't work for me. They may smell nice on paper but I can't take wear it on my skin. The wafts kinda get stuck in the back of my throat and it's like I'm tasting the fragrance instead of smelling it. I really don't enjoy that feeling.
Recently I got to know a beautiful musky perfume - So Musk Fanette. Do you know this fragrance, Sebastian? I am very interested in your opinion on them :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy Yessir! Ambrette, ambroxan, musk, iris, and pink pepper are the notes. Fragrantica doesn't list ambrette as a note but they are often wrong anyways.

Hi. Are all musks powdery? I own Another 13 and is not powdery at all and I can't understand why most musks are so powdery (even when they don't have a powdery note like iris). I've had such a hard time finding not powdery musks :(
Yes I think most musky perfumes end up being powdery but in different degrees. For example I feel like the dry ones are more powdery than the syrupy ones if that makes sense.
