Fun fact: early on, the writers intended for Maris to appear on screen at some point but they had so much fun outlandishly describing her that eventually no actress could have possibly been cast.
@@SashGirl34 No it's not a shame because the fun is that we never saw Maris and they could make her as outlandish as they want while keeping the show realistic. Plus if we actually saw her we'd hate her like Mel.
1:44 I always loved this moment, not just because of the good burn against Maris, but also because this is one of the rare moments Martin and Frasier share a good laugh together.
I remember another hilarious moment from season 2, when Niles is advised to sweep Maris off her feet and make her glad she was a woman, and he said: “I can’t do that with Maris, she has abnormally rigid vertebrae; she’d snap like a twig.” 🤣
Honourable mention: Martin asks if Maris has taken up horse back riding, Niles assures him that she hasn't as her little quadracepts are so tight she's incapable of straddling anything larger than a border collie.

I always wanted those police sketch artists to watch episodes that mentions what Maris looked like and come up with a rough sketch of what she could possibly look like. I’m sure it would look hilarious. 😂

More: Maris wasn't heavy enough to set off a whoopie cushion. She was so chafed that she was cooling her thighs by straddling a frozen turkey. When she dropped the gift off at Nervosa, she ordered a whole milk latte with chocolate shavings and all she did was take a deep smell of it and handed it back. She and Niles were once seated in a restaurant next to an Italian soccer team and when she ordered goose tragedy ensued. She was able to fit into a 3" wide portrait crate with breathing holes in it and when Marta gave her a protein shake to drink, she drank it in then right back into the glass. While in the hospital for more cosmetic surgery, she inquired about getting a Nutrasweet drip instead.
My favourite after she was asked to take part in a group hug at a new age wedding "Last time I saw her, she was racing towards her Mercedes, emitting a high-pitched shriek that caused the wedding doves to attack one another"
I remember seeing that episode when Niles bought himself that whippet, and the audience jug once immediately laughed. The joke was obvious yet hi li arious.
I think my all time favorite Maris remark was when Frasier asked "Do you still have the pamphlets?" And got the response of "Of course I do Maris is 5 years older than me-"
Two of the best ones include: From "The Seal Who Came to Dinner" Frasier: Good lord, what the hell is that [anchor lamp]? Niles: Maris had it made after she lost power in a storm. Battery operated, works on a clapper [claps it off] so you can find it in the dark. [claps it on] Only problem was, the poor thing, try as she might, she could never clap hard enough to activate it. From "The Candidate" Niles: You know, my wife Maris actually has all our servants down at your campaign headquarters licking envelopes. She'd do it herself, but the poor thing can't produce saliva. So many amazing moments!
Oh the cup on the dog… that was definitely the best one! Buy you missed the scene with the origins of her money. The “I’ve flushed out the family secret” line left me laughing for a day.
I think the closest person that Maris was compared to was her best friend that came to Niles' place for a dinner party thrown for his neighbors. Season 4, Episode 14 "To Kill a Talking Bird"
One of my favorite lines about Maris is early on in the episode The Matchmaker. At the end Frazier is asked “so this Maris [niles] is with, is a woman?” To which Frazier replies “well the jury’s still out on that one”
I was hoping you would put in the scene where Roz spots Maris at the deli across the street from Cafe Nervosa. Her description of her post weight gain was so funny! You did post part of it on #6 where Frasier was talking. But not the part where Roz spoke. Forgot which season and episode that was from. But loved that whole scene!
In the voyage of the damned ep right after Nile’s says that "she had no booty to shake" line they cut to a reaction shot & you can clearly see Kelsey & Perry trying not to break character. I don’t blame them cause that whole barracuda dance explanation was hilarious. In an interview, the writers said that not showing Maris was unintentional because the creators of the show wanted her to be like norms wife but in cheers but Maris would have been brought on in the best moment. However, the writers just made her more & more ridiculous to the point where the creators of the show knew there would be no one to play her so they never actually showed her. That’s my fun fact for the day!
Literally the only way I can picture someone playing Maris if it they purposely haven't eaten in three weeks, nearly on their death bed, but somehow manage to make it to the set. They have to be soo pale, that it would he dangerous to walk outside. But despite all that, she'd have to be the most beautiful thing possible for Niles to fall for.
Yes, Mel could possibly look similar to Maris. However, Niles says that Maris' best friend in Season 4, Ep. 14 "To Kill a Talking Bird" was very, very close to her and is the most alike to Maris.
My family would discuss what actress we thought could play Maris, and we landed on Valerie Mahaffey, who once played Patrice, a girlfriend of George Costanza on Seinfeld. In one scene with George, she wore chopsticks in her bun (hair); if you recall, the flour “child” Niles carried around had a boo-boo, and he said, “I must have begun conducting [Brahms] with one of the gilded chopsticks Maris wears in her bun and I accidentally ran him through.”
I didn’t know what Maris looked like nobody did But when they showed the episode with the skinny hairless dog I just knew that she was supposed to resemble Maris

Niles always claimed he loved Maris but it appeared to me like he was always trying to avoid her when he wasn't at work he was at the cafe or Frasiers apartment
