Color seems to affect these shoes more than in any other. I have two pairs of hydro Mocs and two Pollex, the responsiveness and squish vary dramatically across colors of the same shoes
@FinC1_
@FinC1_ Год назад
Which colors, if I may ask?
@lunargorp
@lunargorp Год назад
@@FinC1_ the biggest difference is the hydro moc. The “butternut” color is the firmest and densest of all my foam clogs while the “Paloma” colorway feels like a completely different material. So squishy and light - squishier than my friends’ foam runners and Yeezy slides. Squishier than my crocs mellow slides. Both purchased directly from merrel so they’re real. And both are from the “bloom” line. In the Pollex I have the crocodile and kuwata. The Kuwatas feel slightly softer, even brand new.
@pockyboi6699
@pockyboi6699 Год назад
Assuming these are injection molded, it has to do with the color pigment and drying process. Certain colors need more pigment to show up (pink is a good example) and then require different drying heat/time per each, at least this is the case in plastics.

I suspect that their performance is probably pretty subject sensitive - generally anything sneaker is good for 100k+, the premium(say $270+) work boots always do really well, and then you have the, say, 'pop culture'(I guess?) related ones like the recent 'Joe Rogan boots' and the 'Indiana Jones boots' videos(toss gimmick & parody content in there too) that also perform consistently, and will sometimes go big. In contrast, I don't know that a comparison of 3 foam foot wraps quite captures the attention quite like cutting a Jordan or an over built Nicks in half(or 'Joe Rogan boots', lol). Once you get outside of the above categories(not a complete list lol, just looking through their stuff on the fly), it seems to vary quite a bit. And you'll still see variance within the more consistent categories too of course. For example, back a little further, the cowboy boots generally all did ~100k-150k - except for the Ariats, which broke 400k. There's just a LOOOOT of variables with this stuff. BTW, every single military boot video is off the fuggin charts too LOL - pretty much between 500k and 1M

I'm a swimming teacher in Australia and need water shoes every day. One test for you is the speed of tread wear down in pool environments. Pool decks are universally rough concrete to prevent slips and falls and that stuff wears down the foam shoe tread pretty easily. For me, on pool deck and wet 5 days a week (~30hrs/wk), I wear through Crocs in a year so I need new ones every year... that was fine until a few months ago when crocs Australia upped the price to $100-120 for new season styles! I'm pretty dark at them now so I've gone with the Merrill. The soles have felt great for several months, like most Merrill soles. Sadly, the tread is wearing down to nothing just like the Crocs do. I don't think they'll last more than a year either.

Crocs is the go too, mine last generally 5 years but they're all foam. I've still got my black crocs which are now 5 years old and still going strong actually. The only reason they go in 5 years is the wear though where they've now put the rubber so I'm really excited to buy another set In the coming years.

Looks like the Merrell’s had the location where, and what it was made of right in the video bottom of the shoe @4:58 the “sticker”. So, that adds a point. Also, when you did the puncture test you placed the “nail” in a valley and not on the peek of the traction, so that might have knocked down the test a bit. Which all might of had it tied for second place. 🤷‍♂️

About 5 years ago I found a pair of black plastic/foam/rubber basic model Birkenstocks for $30 at Nordstrom. They started out as my house shoes, and after a month I started wearing them on the street as my errand shoes. They're easy to clean, don't smell, look like black leather Birkenstocks, I wear them every day for hours, there's barely any tread wear, and they still look like they did the day I bought them. I'm still surprised how much mileage I'm getting out of these things, and they show no signs of slowing down. Definitely check em out if you can, I don't even know if they still produce them.

Great stuff as always, amazing how we can see these differences even in such similar simple footwear. If I can make a suggestion... A couple simple improvements to the bar drop test that should offer better data... - attach a flat plate to the bottom of the bar so that it spreads the load out, like the footwear is contacting flat ground rather than the smaller area of that square bar - try to make the insert part of the stand that the footwear is sitting on as reasonably generic foot shaped as possible(try to contour some heavier sheet metal maybe or carve out a block of wood? Doesn't necessarily have to be an entire foot lol, just the bottom), to distribute the load across the footwear in a kinda similar general fashion to how your foot inside a shoe causes the load to be distributed in ways that a smaller contact patch won't replicate Both cases, just trying to minimize centralizing the load so that it's more similar to how shoes really work when you wear them. The ball drop test still gives us an idea of how some of these specific materials/constructions act, while the modified bar drop should tell us more about the performance of the overall design. Also, all 3 of these are positively ugly AF! GOOD LAWD with this 'foam foot wrap' footwear styling, it's all just so terrible lol.

Very entertaining video review...I wear the Merrell foams all during the summertime around my home...they are very comfortable but the holes on the midsole and the generous cut-out by the heels invite small rocks mulch and other small debris to get under your heels and eventually end up in the toe box...if you wear them all summer you get a weird pattern of brown tan spots on your insteps...that said if you wear a thin no show or ankle or even crew sock you don't have any complaints...the strap can work as a sizer that gives you a half size adjustment depending on if you have the strap on your ankle or on the edge near the instep

I use them as slippers around the house because with kids there's a high chance of stepping on that one lego you missed or some sharp toy or even a random wet spot in the carpet that could be anything so wearing them around the house became my go to and I feel naked without them. The foam runners are so easy to bootleg and have the same exact quality for a fraction of the retail and especially resale prices. Like 20 bucks for a legit foam runner. The crocs salehe bembury as well. I really wanted the tan colored original colorway release (menemsha) bc I think it's most wearable however the resale price currently is almost 600 dollars bc of the rarity. Got it for 20 bucks from Chhhina. With crocs tags and everything. Side by side with my friends pair and they're exact replicas. I hate how overpriced some of these foam shoes are. Thought about the Merrells bc I like the sleekness but I really appreciate the traction and durability of the Pollex Crocs. Also the crocs foam has broken in and softened a bit with wear. Blessings!

I have one pair of the hydro mocs but for some reason I own 12 pairs of crocs in different colors. They’re more comfortable in my opinion. Im a shoe, purse and hat hoarder. I buy the crocs with the holes.

Love the vest you’re wearing in the giveaway portion. Anyone able to ID what the vest is?

Hi Mom, I got a job! First day at work tomorrow. I am doing footwear product testing for a RU-vid channel. Not sure what I will be doing, but they offer great dental benefits.

How about a comparison of slippers like the classic LL Bean ones in every new englander's closet. Rubber sole traction for mail retrieval on ice; heat transfer test for comfort on icy basement floors; cleanable upper for coffee spills?

I live in NE. I've had LL Bean's classic moccasins for 12 years strong and they're still going strong. It was only just this year I made the decision to find a cobbler who might be able to help with the small fur wear down in the heel area. But yeah I love them!! So worth the price.

Yeezy FOAM RNR are a funny one. Most are actually made in China with only a select few being made in USA. I would be interested in seeing you test China made ones because in my opinion, they are far softer than USA ones.

I think there should be test where you put them in a car outside in hot weather, this happened to mine and they shrunk like two sizes, they were also under heavy bags that changed the shape because the heat made it easily moldable
