This video is dedicated to the Top 39 most-watched cliffhanger episodes of the Primetime Supersoaps aired from 1980 to 1989. It includes the following shows: "Dallas", "Knots Landing", "Dynasty", "Flamingo Road", "Falcon Crest", and "The Colbys".
The complete "Dallas" is available on DVD through Warner Home Video. The complete "Dynasty" is available thru CBS-Paramount and "The Colbys" thru Shout! Factory. First 2 seasons of "Knots Landing" and "Falcon Crest" are available thru Warner HV, Season 3 of FC on MOD, and its Season 4 on iTunes.

Falcon Crest had the best cliffhangers always. Seasons 2, 3, 5 and then most especially 6 and 7 were the best ever. Loved Falcon Crest and still do to this day, and I’m so happy to see it again on IMDB Tv!

Definitely Knot's Landing was the best! Dallas was a power house as well. Dynasty was good in those days. Top 3 easily

I'm assuming this is most watched at time of airing, and if so Dallas didn't gain the major viewership numbers till after the J.R. got shot. Being as the following season averaged the most viewers that year I believe. Makes sense

Surprising how the very boring cliffhanger with Cliff trying suicide on Dallas gets high ratings.

Travis, I was surprised too, because it´s one of my least favorite cliffhangers. This happened because none of the other big soaps was established as "competition" for "Dallas", though Alexis already was causing trouble that season.

I think a large part of why the Season 4 cliffhanger with Cliff rated so highly was because most viewers tuned in waiting to see what the jaw dropping moment would actually be since the previous two years had ended with jaw dropping moments. By the time the end credits had rolled, those 28 million viewers had already been recorded. Even if they were disappointed by what they'd just seen, there were still 28 million of them. Likewise, I believe the previous year's finale ended Number One because viewers were tuning in to see what the producers would come up with to match the hype of Who Shot JR? Great channel by the way 😉

Great vid..i,too as a child,loved these supersoaps..I think the only one that followed in the 90s with great cliffhangers was Melrose Place and also the one,more recently, that a had a lot of glitz and class act was Revenge with the fab Madeline Stowe..Madeline was very much like the 80s super bitches in divine gowns..

Me too Nicole! It was a theme that composer John Parker wrote for the Sue Ellen character in her last season. It was jazzy and classy, and luckily better than the one she had in the first seasons (you can hear it in the beginning of this scene: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JDx_AWW-31g.html ). I found this one cringeworthy...

Let me tell you how much I adore your channel. What great memories from all of the soaps I watched in the 80s. The most famous was Who Shot JR back in 1980 remember there was no social media, internet or cell phones. It was a phenomenon. The most shocking cliffhanger for me, the one we talked about all summer was Dynasty The Royal Wedding aka The Moldavin Massacre. It was a stunning act of violence. That other daytime soaps and many night time dramas have copied over the years. I was 19 years old in 1983. Sadly we live in a world where acts of violence are no longer just on television programs....

Clarence you are much too kind. Thank Warner and RU-vid too because they haven´t "forbidden" my videos (only a couple). I agree with you about the violence, sad to say it happens in every country and time of the year, and every day. I´m (almost) your age (;)) and here in Spain we lived all that with years of delay, from Who Shot JR (2 years and 2 more years to watch "who did it"), to the Moldavia massacre which, believe it or not, was aired here as a daytime soap in morning schedule. wonder if 25 would have been higher rated or lower had they known it wasn't actually joan under the hat. supposedly it was just a stunt lady because they didn't have the part cast yet and decided fix it next year

#38 I thought The Colbys finale was a ship with bright lights appears behind Falon and thats how it ended. Never saw it before but thats how newspapers and magazines described it.

It´s based on the Nielsen ratings. Season 4 attracted more viewers because the Who Shot JR phenomenon got many more people to watch the show religiously. Of course, "Who Done It" still is the top of the tops. Toni www.supersoaps.org

Joan Van Ark played Val so well...she never had to say a word you could read her face...she should have gotten emmys! MISS THE SHOW!!!

@@marvinnewbill6470 nice to know someone who liked knots as much as me....what were your fav episodes,seasons ,opening song seasons,characters?mine was joan van ark and ted shackelford...favoritete opening season song was 6 and 7 season...loved the drums and flutes in 7....fav episoeds was when val gort babies back....her and gary met that night and conceived the twins,when gary supposedly died on ranch and she seen him in ambulance her acting blew me away-that was season 5....i loved entire series and have so many that i liked!
