Hey there. I am 51 years old and have had a beard for over 30 years but I have always kept it very short. I am wanting to grow it long and was wondering when should I start using beard oil? It is probably about an inch long currently.
Was looking for a nice smelling beard oil on the cheap when you dropped "You're not buying this for the scent, it's for the health of your beard". I got a bottle of Premium Blebd by Hobest Amish already, guess i got tge best budget one.
Not watched yet but if Honest Amish isn't here Ill be disappointed. Their premium oil is an amazing value if you're not worried about scents. I'll even mix in a couple drops of it when putting scented oils in because it leaves my beard feeling good.
Now that Beardbrand has 4oz for $26 would they now fit this category - but they may not be in stores. I saw them in stores before they moved away from 1 oz bottles. Maybe new larger size are not in stores.
I have a question. You say that the Bulldog beard oil is a solid option, but you don't recommend some other beard products of theirs. I'm looking to switch from King C Gillette, since their beard wash irritates my skin like crazy, causing wounds that would release liquid and creating huge chunks of dandruff or just the wound scab. Would you recommend the Bulldog beard wash? Thank you
@@DanCBearded yeah, sorry. I meant the 2 in 1. I guess I won't buy that one either haha! European supermarkets don't have a wide variety. I guess I'll give Prorasso a try. Or if you know any good European options, I'll give them a try 🙂
Unfortunately you cannot in most targets anymore and I think it is totally going away. Also, the price is $15 an ounce. So firmly out of the “budget” parameters of this video. Quality stuff though!
I pretty much exclusively use honest amish, but have wanted to branch out and try more store brands as im a more “buy it in person”, person. Only other one i have tried was cremo but my beard got dry using it despite their pleasant scent.
or spend $10 for 2 oz ostrich, 1 oz emu, or 1 oz squalane oils. 1st 2 are from the internet. Ulta sells squalane. Nicholas Beard Works and Alley Cat (expensive very highly rated) uses these. Dan C didn't mention Bromley's beard oil. I thought it was lousy.
Hey Dan I was curious on what your thoughts on Cremo's Palo Santo beard oil is? The Shampoo and Softener look abit chemically (I think, could be wrong) but how about the beard oil itself? Here's the ingredients from their website. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Fragrance, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sunflower Seed Oil Glycerides, Tocopherol.
Excellent, needed short video. We have different noses. I love dark musky blends. Also outdoorsy essential oil scents. some spicy. Barbershop type are of NO interest. I love scent of "Honest Amish." I don't like the scents of Target "Goodfellow" product and I can't even comment on the feel. Am not using the 2 or three I bought 3 years ago (past time to dispose of). Bulldog is satisfactory. Of these, I have not tried the 'Shea.."
Hey Dan, what do you think of duke cannon’s best damn beard oil? This is what I’m currently using and I can get it at target. I also use their beard wash. Just wondering if I should try one of these other ones on your list.
It's kind of amazing to me that Target has such a good beard oil, but at the same time, they are pretty much the reason Scotch Porter turned into garbage a while back. I don't get it. 🤷♂️
Great options, but my favorite budget store brand is Everyman Jack, both oil and balms are solid choices. Stay away from their butter though. Their wash is ok, but a little too stripping for my taste.
I use the Everyman Jack products. Curious about what you don’t like about their butter, not challenging your opinion or anything, it’s just the only butter I’ve tried. So I’m wondering if I’m missing out on better butter option
@@EllisD01 EMJ butter is not a butter. It's water based, more like a lotion, smells like chemicals, and leaves my beard stiff & crunchy. There are so many really good butters out there. Try Texas Beardsman or Furry Hippie Beard Company. They both have incredible butters. I'll likely come out with my own early next year.
Agreed, their butter is one of the absolute worst. And absolutely nothing wrong with the EMJ oil at all. Really solid starter option for in store oils. I didn’t bring them up on this video for two main reasons though: 1) their base price in Walmart is just over $10, which was my guideline (the others are well under $10 an ounce) 2) I wouldn’t recommend it over any of the ones on the list that are less expensive A fair honorable mention though!
@@DanCBearded I would rate them 2nd to Honest Amish, followed by Goodfellas, Bulldog, and Shea Moisture. Although, I think there balm is the best of the group. Your right, they are higher priced than the rest.
glad i read this cause i been considering using EMJ butter but i wasnt sure if i wanted to risk the amount of moneh they cost just for me to not like it. good look.🙏🏾
Thanks Dan! This is a great video that is very helpful. I would certainly add Every Man Jack and Brisk to the available in stores list. What would be your top 4 budget beard oil options from Amazon, not including those mentioned in this video (which are four great options)? Many thanks, The Bearded Clergyman
Every man Jack doesn’t fit in the price guidelines of this video, as their base price is not under $10 an ounce. Amazon go to would be grave before shave
Hi! It looks like you do well responding to comments. Im wondering if you could give me your top quality beard kit or individual pieces. My husband is growing out his beard and has never put any special wash/conditioner or oils/balms in it. I need something to gift him that will start him off and i dont want to blow it on poor quality that leaves him deciding to shave it off. I need the good stuff so that it doesnt start on the wrong foot. I know it doesnt fit with this video, its just the video i finally decided to comment on. Im currently binging your channel. Thanks for all the info!!
Absolutely happy to help! Try either of the these: The beard starter kit by Beard Octane= beardoctane.com/DANC * DANC10 = 10% off The Dan C bundle by Doctor Nicks= www.doctornicks.com/danc * DANC = 15% off
@DanCBearded thanks for your reccomendations! I'm so excited. I wanted to get the Dr. Nick's but they are out of the No. 7 scent oil so I opted for the beard octane since it has multiple scents. I might get him the other kit for Christmas to try if he seems to enjoy letting me pamper him. This is so much fun for me. I'm glad I found your channel. Thanks for the help and quick reply!
Honest Amish is by far the best budget option for a beginner. Was a guy all about the beard a few years back, then shit went downhill. Anyway, back in the game and glad to see a very awesome product still on the market. 💯 best affordable starter available, and will always keep them in my bag.
I bought the Honest Amish and like it ok, except it seems to give off a scent or gas that makes my contacts blurry. True story. I’m very careful to thoroughly wash my hands after using beard oil but it seems like it gives off a gas if you will, that screws up my contact lenses. I’ve never grown a beard before and am about 5 months in. I made the mistake of allowing my wife to trim the sides near the sideburns and it hasn’t looked right since. I’m brushing daily and I guess I need a shampoo and moisturizer because my beard feels dry. Thanks for your videos.
I would highly encourage you to mix in other oils in your blend or try a budget option I mentioned. The difference is real and you will likely feel it immediately. Sweet almond oil is a great beard oil ingredient, but on its own it's not doing enough for your skin and hair
Great video Dan! After watching this I honestly regret not giving honest Amish a try when I was in the beginning stages of my beard journey. As always very informative.
@DanCBearded yea it's a shame too. It's not horrible but I tried live bearded straight up and it felt so good. Def the best I've tried yet. Excited to try more
@Doctor Nick - yours is my first oil from a small batch beard company. Only had bulldog and KCG until now. I've used your oil and butter for a couple of days and I think I'm already feeling the difference! 👍👍
I definitely plan on looking at all four of these and picking the one I want to try thank you for your education I do not feel like ordering online right now and I don't know how long I'm going to keep the facial hair but I want to treat it and keep it soft and healthy.
Shea Moisture has been around for years man, they’ve always made quality products. It’s just that all their products are available in the Afro section, that’s probably why you don’t recognize them.
Dan this is great. I’ve been wondering about a couple of these. What about Everyman Jack oil? Would you call it a runner up to these or right there? Just curious why it didn’t make the top 5 or was it just too close to call or a particular reason? Thanks Dan!
Yup, nothing wrong with the EMJ oil at all.
@@DanCBearded perfect!! I have some of it and I don’t usually pick over my other great options, but I’ll actually say EMJ is my favorite sandalwood scent (I know it’s not your jam), I just wish I like the feel in beard as much as my better oils or I would use it a lot more
i use EMJ for my beard routine. used to use coconut oil but then statered to use EMJ and honestly havent looked back. smells super great, very masculine secent and gives the results im looking for. i feel like EMJ is SO slept on.
Bulldog has the best scent, Honest Amish Classic scent has a very strong smell of Anise that is used in Italian cookies and some say smells like black licorice and I don't think a bearded man should smell like cookies in my opinion. Haven't tried the others yet.
i have two items from your list i do have the honset amish beard oil got from location walmart and their balm . i do like this beard oil thought i have other oils still like. the second oil is shea moisture beard conditioning oil side noted they do make a beard balm . one thing about conditioning oil i am little lost on it called conditioning oil would that be same as beard oil or different thanks . where i live at in our town we dont have target but we do have cvs so next time i try the bulldog brand if they have it
Are they in stores nationwide? There are tons of great options in that price range but unfortunately most are not in stores. Hence why I made this video
i got bulldog atm because im in the UK and we're quite limited on the more budget/ beginner end i feel like it absorbs really well into my skin as compared to others ive tried that left me feeling a bit greasy, i use beard butter too and i think the both go together great
Good to know there are some readily available oils that aren't bad. I have not tried any of these but the licorice scent is actually pretty tempting with Honest Amish!
Great video Dan!! I started out with Honest Amish and really enjoyed it. It unfortunately made my face itch. I recently switched to Shae Moisture and absolutely love the scent and the way it feels in my medium to long beard. Keep up the good work and stay bearded!!
@DanCBearded I hear ya. I always come back to their oil tho especially when I'm low on a product and don't have time to wait on the mail. I'll grab some while I'm waiting on somthing else. They're one of first oils I bought back in like 2018. Ima always show them love.
Just a little help to people out there, in addition to the oils that Dan listed in this video, check out Oak City Beard Co. They have the absolute cheapest lineup of all products that I've ever seen, and I love their products. And it's free shipping over $10
The big difference is being available in stores. There are tonsss of budget options online, but there is a massive population that simply won’t buy online.
Great information Dan 👍 I had been wondering about the Target Goodfellow beard oil. If I am ever traveling and forget my beard oil I can always stop in a Target and pick up a Goodfellow or Walmart and get an Honest Amish. Definitely good to know information.
I have a sensitive nose so if I get a beard oil that is too potent I like to apply good amount of Honest Amish first and then use just a few drops of the potent oil. Honest Amish classic and premium have a fairly faint smell that will be overpowered by any potent beard oil you apply over it. I do try to match them up though, Honest Amish classic to me smells like Juicy fruit gum so I'll use that with a potent oil that has fruit or food type scents. The Honest Amish premium smells like pencil shavings so I'll use that one with anything that is not food scent related like wood or cologne type scents.
Thank you for the video! I actually have two of these on my shelf right now. Both Honest Amish and Shea Moisture are solid options for any beardsman looking to save some money on products. I cheat a little on the beard butter and use a 4oz tin of the Honest Amish heavy balm with several other scented oils instead of having a match for each scent. These products do well in my beard.
Dan, another great video for those of us starting out. By the way, I am nearly 5 months in to my 're-grow' and thank entirely to you and your channel...It's coming along nicely. I'm rockin' what I got!
So I’ve tried “Bulldog” and I still have it. It’s a pretty good beginner oil to use. The scent profile is “pretty basic” but it gets the job done. The scent isn’t too over powering either.
Ya im growing my 1st beard and i bought arlos at tj maxx for 4 dollars lol that was absolute trash so i just bought bulldog the other day and it works miracles compared to arlos lol
I used scented oils for years. Dropper bottles, shaker bottles, this that & the other thing. Now I'm strictly a Kroger brand organic coconut oil guy. I think the big jar cost me maybe $8. Not knocking anyone's product by any mean, but the Kroger organic was a true game changer for me along with a heated brush. As they say though, your mileage may very!
For sure! Coconut oil is not going to work for most people (high comedogenic rating likely to clog pores) because a blend will work better. However, most people does not mean all people. Finding what works for you is very important
I believe one of my first in store purchases or maybe even a gift was every man jack. Oil wasn't too bad compared to some of the other in store options. "Butters", on the other hand, are a whole different story!
Although I have a massive collection of premium beard oils, I still use Honest Amish with regularity. Especially if I don't want to smell like a box of cigars, cologne, or a cut pine tree that's on fire.🙃
