I agree with Mr. Hofmann, not the right hobby for you. I have been collecting for 45 years, have over 3,700 LP's mostly garnered at garage sales and thrift stores in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's when everyone was ditching their collections for "perfect sound forever" (usually paying 25 cents each). What a joke. A friend of mine had a Linn Sondek LP12 and played some LP's against their CD equivalents in 1984 when the Compact Disc was introduced. No comparison. I do have CD's, often if I don't have a band properly represented on vinyl and want to know what I have been missing; example: R.E.M. Nothing on vinyl so picked up "Part Lies, Part Truth, Part Garbage..etc". But when I really want to listen, I mean really listen, vinyl is the way to go. By the way, this friend went through a rough spot in 1991 and sold me his Linn LP12. And Mr. Bucknee, you aren't willing to spend $100? Hate to tell you a basic Linn starts about $5,000 and you can go up to $12,000. And before you have a stroke, there is a turntable that retails for over $100,000. I guess it just depends on where your priorities are.

Tik the trick is to find the right store. Try one that is big, primarily sells cds but makes enough money so that they can sell the yinyl for cheaper but still has good selection. Case in point Rasputin’s if you live in California. It also helps to like more underground music, underground music tends to be much cheaper.

@gouda2275

@Balikon
@Balikon 5 лет назад
Well, you can have much problems with used record players. A good, refurbished used record player is in the same price range like those presented in this video for the seller wants to see some money for the maintenance he has done to the device. Also, most used record players do not come with an pre-amp. So, buying a used record player suddenly can become more expensive, because you have to buy a preamp or you have to buy an amp with build-in preamp. If you are in vintage hifi and you have some knowledge about record players buying a used one is of course an option. But if you are a starter and have no idea of what to consider when entering the new hobby, buying one of those record players presented in this video is the far better option.

Telefunken - STS1 turntable + TR350 amplifier + pair of TL710 speakers Took some time to find and buy those and set tem right - plus about $400... If someone just want to buy and play, this vid did not contain bad informations at all...

I've got my at lp 60 today and immediately fell in love with it. It might not be the best build turntable but it has everything you need to get started. Also the lack of adjustability isn't that bad for a complete beginner as I am. Everything comes prebuild (you just need to hook in the belt) and you are ready to play. It makes the first step really easy and just let you enjoy the records. If you have 50 bucks more to spend get the bt version, it has a detachable rca cable (unlike the USB version), in fact it comes with a 3,5 mm jack and a 3,5 mm to rca cable and also let you play your records over Bluetooth headphones or speakers which is really convenient. I've got mine in germany for just a little bit shy of 150€.

Got an incredible deal on an Akai Pro500BT turntable. The price fell from around $380 to $179 when they dropped the model down to their consumer brand "ION". Same exact unit, just a different name and still comes with the same AT cartridge. Really beautiful in polished walnut. Has an aluminum tonearm and controls, built-in pre-amp and bluetooth. Premium quality for under $200. I like it so much I might buy a second just to keep as a spare.

We're still using our record player from the 1970s. Sony stereo music system HP211A with its original Sony speakers. It's really solidly built and great quality. I just saw one of these record players on e-bay being offered for £75 and the auction closed with no bids. That surprised me. In a retro audio shop they sell record players and speakers like this for around £1000.

I'm looking at buying my first turntable soon. At least in Australia there appears to be a hands down winner for someone on a tight budget. The Sherwood PM9805 costs roughly the same as the LP60 (around 250 Australian dollars, or around 180 for a factory refurbished one) but has a replaceable headshell etc, adjustable tracking force and antiskate, target light, strobe, s-shape tone arm, pitch control etc. In fact it almost looks like a copy of the LP-120, at a much lower price and with a couple of things moved around. Only features I think it doesn't have are height adjust and it doesn't do 78 rpm.

Can someone help me I got a vinyl turntable for Christmas and it made me so happy. I’ve wanted to get into vinyl for so incredibly long. However after finally figuring out how to get it to play I discover that the audio is really quiet, like you have your ear close to it to even hear it. The volume knob doesn’t work either it’s the same sound whether it’s on max volume or the lowest volume (it doesn’t mute). Can anyone please help me, what do I need to do. The turntable I have is a JAM Play Stream Bluetooth Turntable.

that turntable uses a junky $5 ceramic cartridge like the Crosley's, ouch, poor records. But anyways, you are hooking it up to speakers, right? That player doesn't have built in speakers.

For those on BOTH sides of the "Affordable" debate--The Law of Diminishing Returns. A $10 turntable is a Billion times better than NO turntable, while a $100,000 'table is not Twice as good as a $50,000 'table. It is MY opinion that ~$150 retail is the Start Point. Less, runs a greater risk of Forever ruining your albums(a $100,000 'table ruins albums with improper set-up). Dirty albums ruin the stylus, degrades the enjoyment/quality factor, and permanently ruin albums. Having 50+ records, a great inexpensive Lifetime purchase is a record washer($80-100, Spin Clean), used Once every 10-25 plays, and then a Carbon Fiber brush(on Ebay for $7-10), for Surface dust BEFORE you set the needle down. Nobody said "Playing vinyl is easy/cheap."

I’m getting my husband his first turn table to his birthday. I’m not sure which to get between the audio technical L120 and the Fluance RT81. He’s a complete beginner so I’m leaning toward the Fluance one because of its ease of use. How do you feel the build quality is on this? I want to get him a nice player and I love the look of that one

I am brand new to vinyl. My wife has a briefcase style record player that we just started using and after my first visit to a record store, I’m hooked. I picked up Nirvanas Never mind record to kick off my collection but when we got home her record player stopped working. I went to one of my local shops but was overwhelmed buy the prices of things and lack of knowledge. This video has seriously filled in a lot of information i was needing! I think I’m going to look into the second record player purely because my wife would kill me if i just dropped hundreds on a turn table. Thanks for the great video! Huge help!

Lots of comments here.... Never realized how popular Vinyl has become again. My set up which is 33 years old: NAD 1300 Pre AMP, NAD 2600 AMP, Dual CS5000 Turntable and KEF 103 Speakers. At 68 years old, I have only a reasonable collection of older LPs. That's wjhat they used to call them: LPs for Long Playing records (Albums). I am looking into possibly a new TT for my Basement stereo setup where I play music - MY Music - that I accompany with my Drum set . After a 50 year hiatus from the drums, I'm back to playing as Hobby..... as I approach Retirement. Looking at the Audio Technica LP120X to be combined with a new Denon Receiver and 2 sets of Bookshelf speakers: Elac Debut 6.2 s and Fluances Signature Series. I comment aou the Pros and Cons of the speakers elsewhere on the appropriate site. Happy Music to All, be safe & well. Music is a great pleasure that hopefully This Madness doesn't take away.

Correction to my comments. I lied. I’m 69 years old. The Speakers with my main stereo are KEF 104/2. Not KEF 103s. Update on the Basement sound system : got a AT - LP 120XBTUSB TT . For the price, IMO can’t be beat. Be well all. Keep the Faith.

I just found your channel today, great video. Just wondering have you or would you do a video on record players with bluetooth capability? I have loads of vinyls from the 80's and want to get a good decent player and was thinking with bluetooth. The layout of my apartment, I would have a nice place for it but where I like to sit is about 4 meters away. Just wondering your thoughts. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Ireland.

I just purchased the Project Carbon Debut. My receiver is an Onkyo SR393. I have the following inputs in the back of the receiver: Aux, CD, and PC. All three are labeled "Assignable", which I interpret as I could plug-in the turntable jacks into the Aux inputs. When I plugged everything in, fired-up the receiver and turntable, I found that the volume had to be put to its maximum. My question is, why am I not getting the appropriate volume level? Please don't tell me I need to be a pre-amp. Any suggestions on how I can rectify this problem?

What does "decent" build quality mean? What are the negatives of that? Do you just have to be gentle with it? Does it not last long? I am pretty set on the LP60 but that one thing has me a little worried.
