Which of these exercises did you find to be most helpful? Which one was the most challenging? Let me know! If you're looking for additional balance exercises, don't forget to check out my other balance exercise videos here: ru-vid.com/group/PLDg9nYAM18_q--cVIgFZ2yeql1Dj6TERy

Wow! That last one showed me where my biggest weakness is. I had a death grip on my chair trying to keep from falling. With all of them, I could really feel it in the hips. Thanks for the help!

@@yochanacoleman4974 It's amazing how that last exercise can seem so simple, and yet be so challenging at the same time! Thanks for watching and supporting my channel! Best wishes in improving your balance!

So, I am in my seventies and I was shocked at how quickly balance deteriorates. I tripped/fell a couple of times on uneven steps or sidewalks, and my children noticed I was shufflin and a little stooped as I walked. So the easiest exercise - high knee march - turned out to be the most effective immediately - it got me to focus on how I walk, and now they tell me I walk like I own the street. Over the period, single leg squats became easier and more useful - I had not before realised that strength is important for balance. Standing on one leg is still a work in progress, but even 10 seconds feels like a win. The other unexpected result is just more bodily confidence - I can often (not always) walk down a staircase in the middle (but I still look down.)

These videos are absolutely first class, clear and instructive. Just one thing and it has nothing to do with what you are talking about: please consider displaying some kind of a legal disclaimer at the beginning of each video. Just in case someone gets hurst and blames you! You are a nice guy.

Thanks so much for your encouragement! As I've been making more videos, I've been adding them into the actual video. I've always had them in my description box. Thank you for your concern!

I was on part 2 commenting - I've just discovered it was 7 months ago - and I said I would do some of these daily and feed back after a month. Well, the month has taken time after I got gout for the first time (gout???), then Covid, then broken toe, but I'm finally there. My verdict - many thanks to Dr Ben because these exercises are truly effective. I chose 6, which happened to be 2 from each part, but I chose them because I could do two (confidence), could just about do two (set for achievement as I progressed), and could not do two without holding on. The six were: - tandem stance - high knee march - single leg swing - heel and toe raise - single leg squats - standing on one leg with head rotation After a week or so I added another real world exercise: walking up and down staircases without holding the rail. I'll do another post on the results.

So, Dr Ben and others, I am ready to say these will be a part of my life, they are worth it. Maybe not every day: maybe 3 times a week. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the confidence means I do a bit more, especially walking and these exercises (squats) and I have actually lost some weight. And I have learned a lot about my body.

These comments have made my day! And you deserve a lot of the credit for sticking to a consistent plan! Oftentimes, the biggest hurdle is not the exercise, but consistency and following through!

thanks for the exercises Dr. Ben it seems as if my left leg ( the one I am having trouble with) doesnt want to move like it lingers. Sounds crazy I know its weak thats why I am doing your exercises but its like it freezes and like its glued to the floor then it moves. I think I have sciatica but who knows? maybe piriformis. Any ideas what it might be? again thank you for your videos

Hi wondering if you could provide some advice. When I’m standing I feel unsteady on my legs. Any help?
@DrBenPT
@DrBenPT 8 месяцев назад
Hello! Some people can feel unsteady when just standing due to a vestibular issue (what we commonly call the inner ear). Other times, people have decreased sensation in their feet and/or legs, which can make it difficult to feel the ground and small changes in weight shifts. Still other times, unsteadiness can be due to weakness or atrophy in some of the leg muscles responsible for balance control, such as the anterior tibialis. It would take a detailed physical examination to determine the true cause, but I hope this helps to provide a little information!
