Top 5 Biggest SKIPS In Perfect Dark Speedrunning

Perfect Dark is broken!
A true masterpiece when it was released in the year 2000 for the Nintendo 64, Perfect Dark was technically leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor Goldeneye 007. However, while Goldeneye was relatively simple in its mechanics and level designs, it was extremely robust in that it has forced speedrunners for the last 20 years to play out levels, for the most part, how they were intended.
Perfect Dark on the other hand, with its multiple storied stages and increased freedom of movement, combined with some poorly constructed boundaries has allowed for some pretty creative ways to proceed through levels.
While an exhaustive list on all of the game breaking exploits snd glitches speedrunners have discovered over the years would be too long for this video, here are the top 5 biggest skips ever found in Perfect Dark speedrunning.

Biggest thing is that instead of just reading what you read off of speedrun records you actually showed footage about EVERYTHING that you mentioned, even the failures in between breakthroughs. Thanks!

I've known it for 20 years: PD is the best N64 game ever - the very top of an incredible collection of games. I haven't played it in a year or two, so seeing this footage of the FarSight reminds me of how innovative the game is. To take a game as amazing as GoldenEye and to then make a spiritual sequel that was better in almost every way is beyond impressive.

It's pretty crazy. For the most part, with the exception of the character modes (which are glaringly dated for obvious reasons due to tech limitations,) the environments themselves are actually really good and hold up fairly well.

Well done. I have played tons of perfect dark and know the intended routes for the game. Someone that hasn't played much or just doesn't remember the intended strats for each level would still be able to enjoy this video and appreciate how good these skips are. It's all thanks to your explanations being so thorough. I also liked your choice of words. Using more broad terms to refer to things and putting them into context that someone less familiar with the game can understand is a real pro move. Quality stuff. My only critique is that I want MORE.
@harborwolf22

Can confirm, you don't need to be a speedrunner to enjoy this content, or to even have played Perfect Dark ever (I never have). My brother and I played the hell out of Golden Eye back in the day (Proximity mines FTW), but that's about it.... I still LOVE all the content he has been putting out. Such good stuff and a great perspective.

I find it fascinating how people are able to figure out ways to cut time. Especially through glitching the game, ways that the creators never intended and probably had no idea it was even possible within the game they made. And yet people discover how to push the boundaries, sometimes even go outside them

@Karl Jobst It's a *fairly* faithful remaster, with a much better framerate, modernized controls, achievements, crowns, and Xbox Live capabilities. My only problem is that you can't speed-strafe as well as you could because of the precise analog stick (in comparison to the 1.2 Control scheme in the original) and I think the game looks worse in some areas. Also, since the game came out before Xbox Live was a thing, you expect plenty of lag when you play online.

I'll always remember how Bossman casually and savagely executed that fall glitch on Defection Perfect Agent without pausing during his live AGDQ 2014 full game run. From the couch, Goose lets out an "Oh Baby". Then, with a smirk, boss slays the entire room, saying "Yeah that was a swag strat. I probably shouldn't have done that". On top of that, the level completes 4 minutes and 20 seconds into the video. Just watch the run, start around 4 minutes in for the last part of that fall glitch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MX_QoNfCNKY.html

Ha, I just started watching, not looking at the channel name until you mentioned you got the canisters, and then had a bit of a shock realizing I knew who you were. Good writing, easy to follow, some things like how you located the canisters could have gone into more detail, but on the flip side you never went into too much detail. Would've been neat to know how long the old records stayed in place before the skips were discovered, but I bet it's not nearly as dramatic as GE.
