Looks wise, I'd take the old one with a 5.0. Once I pay off my coupe, I may get one.

Nothing beats the smoothness and SOUND of the 5.0 V8. The V6TT is plenty snappy off the line, but cannot match the V8 for smoothness, sound and higher-end power. That is why I chose the 5.0 AWD Ultimate edition in 2020. No V8s by Genesis, after 2020. Too bad. The TAU V8 is killer.

Anyone thinking the previous version looks better?

You're definitely not the only person. While I do prefer the look of the new one especially since it makes the G80 look more distinct, I can absolutely understand people preferring the more subdued, less extroverted and in-your-face previous gen G80 instead. I still think the previous gen G80 Sport looks amazing!

Love my ‘18 G80 Sport I’ve only put 20K miles on her. Mines black with a black interior and totally blacked out windows. Trust me. It turns plenty of heads. It has a V-6 twin turbo engine (365HP) and she takes off like a rocket! 🖤

I don't doubt the 2018 G80 turns a lot of heads, especially in black on black! It's pretty menacing and it works well in blacked out especially because of the dark chrome and the copper accents just adding enough contrast. Glad you're enjoying it!

Mine is white and it turns heads and it's an 18 also. 13 months I will be in the 2021 G80 and I can't wait. I'm still not sure if I will get the GV 80 or the G80 sedan. I'm leaning closer to the sedan tho. My first Genisis. I was driving the GS Lexus since 1998. Had 5 of them. Genisis knocked them out completely. They don't make em anymore. The LS 500 has the same engine as the G80 Sport I have. Lexus is over priced and in my opinion they are garbage. Remember I drove them over 20 yrs. Once I got in that G80 I was sold. Way better than any GS I drove. 13 months 2021 I will have another white Genisis. Sweeeeeeet🏋️🏋️🏋️🏋️

Is it just me, or the older G80 took a page out of the E class design book, and the new generation has the lines similar to Audi A7, and the visuals of a Bentley? None the less, an impressive looking vehicle.

Especially the sports trim. I actually prefer the quad exhausts, the 3 spoke steering wheel and the lower bumper as well. The 2018 still holds excellent value and those v8 will only get more expensive with time

@nobility5340 4 года назад
Thanks for watching! I don't think I was harsh at all -- I love the outgoing G80 3.3T Sport! It does indeed look great (especially compared to the G80 3.8 and 5.0, which was really where I was pointing my remarks at) and has a great balance of features and performance. However, I truly believe the new one is just that much better. Of course, there are several people that still prefer the 3.3T Sport over the new G80, which is totally cool too!
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
Thanks for commenting! The G80 3.3T Sport is indeed a fantastic vehicle. As I mentioned to Olisa, I actually like the G80 3.3T Sport a lot and it looks properly mean. However, I don't think the G80 3.8 and 5.0 look nearly as good. As cool as a V8 is (and sounds), V8s are unfortunately going the way of the dodo and I believe we will be seeing electric motors before big displacement V8s. I can see the G90 being the last holdout for the V8 as smooth V8s are desired in the full size luxury sedan class, but rumors are that the eG80 is being prioritized even over the new G80 Sport. We will find out in the near future! Also, I have a new video being posted tomorrow at 12PM MDT so please check it out! Thank you.

Reason 1 is wrong. since 2016 all G80 is not Hyundai anymore in US/Canada. We have a Genesis brand since 2016. Also I disagree with the comparison of iPad and Texas Instrument. I do like the manual knob/buttons. I don't like when it is all touch screen. dedicated manual buttons are the best for climate control and some basic controls. you can do blind controls (without looking you can change things, when you get used to the car). but touch you have to look and touch which is not great while driving. And, thanks for taking the time for making this video. it does have good content.
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not sure why you think Reason 1 is wrong. The brand started up in North America at the end of 2016 but the actual 2nd gen G80 (as Genesis calls it) was originally released in 2015 and 2016 as the Hyundai Genesis. Other than the G80 sub-model/trim and 3.3T, as well as some other updated tech, the platform is the same as the Hyundai Genesis. Therefore, the 2021 G80 is not a Hyundai anymore because it is a platform completely created with Genesis as the manufacturer. As for your second point, I'm not sure why you think you're disagreeing with me. I also like dedicated manual knobs and buttons so you're definitely agreeing with me! I am saying that the buttons are nicely done and aren't cluttering the dashboard. Thanks again for watching!

Great review and comparison. I have been driving a Lexus for the last nine years, but can't wait to test drive one of these. What's your take on the Genesis dealer experience? Still housed within Hyundai dealerships? They would do well to emulate what Lexus did when they launched in 1989 and had free standing dealerships from the very beginning - completely apart from Toyota.
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
Thanks! The Genesis Experience is, in my opinion, the future of how cars should be sold and maintained. Not only does it offer a buying experience that combines the best of both worlds (online shopping for convenience and transparency, and physical shopping for the hands on feel and relationship with the agency and service department) but it is also well-equipped to make it through pandemics due to the contactless nature of online shopping. Also, it sure beats sitting in a finance office for a few hours or having to sit around the service lounge for hours while drinking terrible dealership coffee! From what I've heard, Genesis will having separate dealerships/showrooms in the very near future. It is critical for Genesis to separate itself from Hyundai to maintain its luxury credentials.

I am the the very same with a GS F sport for the last 6 years. The Lexus service is phenomenal, as their service centers. I feel like a ceo in that place. I get new loaners , 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙚 gas and return it when it suits me. Maybe Genesis eventually can match that
@pwilson6439
@pwilson6439 4 года назад
@@alpappalardi7044 : I bought my 2020 Genesis G80 only after the dealer brought 3 different models to my home, for me to test-drive. I chose to pick up my new car, but they would have delivered it, had I wished. Genesis is building a new dealership next-door to the Hyundai dealer, so I will be dealing exclusively with them when service is due. Genesis will pick up your car and leave you a Genesis loaner when your car is due for service. They will also clean and detail the car and deliver it back to your home, if you wish. I believe they are very much trying to emulate the very successful Lexus client service model.

I have a '18 G80 3.3T and received a '21 G80 2.5T loaner today. I know the comparison isn't fair, but I found the driving dynamics (yes, also the power) in my 2018 much, much better. Maybe they'll give me a 3.5T loaner next time...

The G80 5.0 only comes in AWD here in Canada. However, I have driven a G70 2.0T RWD manual with winter tires in the snow and I definitely prefer the AWD version in the snow! It's nice to have that extra pulling power whereas I feel like with the RWD you need momentum for going up hills or else you may be in for a rough time. Also, all Genesis AWD systems are rear-biased so you have some similar driving dynamics to RWD with that extra bit of traction insurance for the winter.

@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
Great questions! HTRAC is just a brand name; the AWD system is similar between the old and new G80s with Magna being the manufacturer of both (fun fact -- BMW uses the same manufacturer for xDrive although the latest system is slightly different than what Genesis uses). However, there could be updates to the tuning of the new G80's system in terms of how much power is biased.

It's going to be hard to beat the value vs feature content in the current G80. The 2021 model looks like it's going to cost much more than the out going model which has won numerous awards, top safety pick, most reliable among near luxury sedans, v8 power etc. I hope the new model is just as successful because it has some big shoes to fill.
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
The old G80 is definitely a winner from a value perspective. Although official pricing hasn't been released in Canada yet, the US G80 had a pretty big price increase. With that said, the price of Genesis vehicles is going to continually go up as the vehicles improve drastically and as the Genesis brand gets more clout in the luxury vehicle world. It's a similar play to what Toyota did with Lexus many years back. In my opinion, although the massive value factor has been subdued a bit, the new G80 is still priced well to the competition as feature for feature it will offer more than the competition (Genesis models come with a lot of features standard whereas the Germans have their features as separate option packages). Additionally, the new G80 has a lot more tech compared to the old G80 so to continually improve in a dramatic fashion and to not be restricted by the mainstream brand (i.e. Hyundai) means that pricing will go up. I believe the new G80 will be a winner but we will see once it is finally out! Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. :)
@billblonco
@billblonco 4 года назад
Nobility I just don’t want Genesis to lose there core audience chasing the Germans and pricing the G80 to far upmarket. The current G80 is going to go down in history as the car who started it all ie: Lexus LS400, Infiniti Q45, Acura Legend. Feature content, looks, and value for the money is what led me to the G80.
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
I can understand your sentiment. I don't think the new G80 has priced itself too upmarket but just a bit closer to the Germans. As I mentioned in the video, the previous two Hyundai Genesis (and Genesis G80) were limited by being under the Hyundai brand. However, Genesis is now its own so it can aspire to greater heights, which means having greater vehicles. The cars will still be priced well--even if the G80 3.5T Prestige is $10k CAD more than the G80 3.3T Sport ($72k vs $62k CAD, which I sure hope isn't the case but going for a worst case scenario), it still represents a far better value than the equivalent BMW 540i xDrive which is in the $90k CAD area for similar features!

75 HP and about 80 ft lbs difference! I will get to drive the G80 in both engines in the coming months to confirm first hand the difference but if it's anything like the current 3.3T vs the 3.8L (of course with the 3.8L not having forced induction) there will be a big difference. Asides from the engine differences you simply get more features with the 3.5T Prestige trim versus the 2.5T Advanced trim; there is only 1 trim level per vehicle. I will be releasing a video soon regarding the CAD pricing of the G80 as well as the features you get from them!

Nobility have you driven the 2015-2020 g80 3.8 L v6 in your opinion how do you like the power output ? Via acceleration takeoff , passing ppl etc. What cars does the G80 natural v6 version compete with ? And also are you really losing a lot if you opt in for the premium vs the ultimate ,
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
@@mikexcanxjerk I have driven the 2015-16 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 and the Genesis G80 3.8. The 3.8L V6 is a decent engine but the G80 is heavy enough that the car isn't particularly quick. Your 0-60 mph time will be in the mid 6s. Passing isn't terrible but I'd only pass one or two at a time as opposed to 4+ with the 3.3T or 5.0-equipped G80s. Fuel economy is fairly decent on the 3.8L, however. The G80 3.8 competes with the Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E350, and BMW 530. Those Germans will feel peppier but the G80 3.8 will have a ton of features for less money compared to those Germans. I would personally go 3.3T Sport or 5.0L Ultimate for power. I'm not sure what features the Premium has in the US but the 2017-18 Premium in Canada is missing a good number of features compared to even the 3.8 Technology. TL;DR the G80 3.8 is a good choice if you don't need a ton of acceleration.

Nobility so funny because what you said its true cause other ppl similar have said the same thing about the 3.8 L v6. But let ask you why . A car that has about 311 horsepower and about 293 lb ft of torque only doing mid 6s 0-60 ? Is the weight really that heavy on that car ? With those #s you would expect around early 6s/ late 5s (5.8-6.2) 0-60 so that's interesting. Would you say the 3.8 L v6 has a mixed blend feel to it between a v6 and a turbo 4 ? Little bit of v6 & 4 cylinder turbo to it with the curb weight the car has ? Acceleration like a turbo 4 but top end power like v6 or just balanced all around ? Also Does sport mode however make a very good difference though ? Do you always have to have it in that mode to get little more responsive from the engine or normal in most conditions is good enough. And I'm not particularly into the power so much. I love the safety features & value . I just want to know in your opinion on the 3.8 L v6. Is the driving dynamics good enough for what it is. Is it actually on the slower end for a natural aspirated v6 ? I know the Lexus GS350 is a little bit faster , the Camry xse v6 is also quicker due to their less curb weight . Audi lineup just has a better advantage too may be wrong. But does the 3.8 L still have advantage over 4 cylinders vehicles ? Via Honda civics , accords , Kia optima , Altima their etc.. would hate get embarrassed by them . E300 Mercedes H:241/torque: 273 lbt curb weight : 3792lbs BMW 330i H:255/ torque 295lb curb weight 3582 lbs Lexus IS300 2.0 t HP: 241 torque:258 lb curb weight 3582 Lexus is300 3.5 hp: 260 torque 236 curb weight : 3737 Are these cars in the real world driving generally faster then the G80 3.8 L (311 hp / T : 293 curb weight 4200-300 lbs ) or no ?

The G80 is a tank. The benefit of this is safety as well as stability. The vehicle is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ (with the LEDs) and you can attribute a lot of that to a high percentage of high strength steel in the chassis. Downside is that you need an engine with lots of torque to get it moving. The 3.8L feels like a typical naturally aspirated V6 -- linear powerband, decently smooth, more top end than low end. Sport mode makes it feel a little snappier and makes the handling a bit tighter but it is not as pronounced as in the G80 3.3T Sport. You can leave it in Normal mode and it will be sufficient but I personally drive in Sport mode 24/7 when it's not winter. You will probably be faster than the Mercedes-Benz E300, similar to the Lexus IS300, and slower than the BMW 330i for 0-60 acceleration (although the IS300 and 330i are comparable to the G70 2.0T, not the G80). Once you get it going at speed it's not bad at all and it is a competent highway cruiser, offering a lot comfort and quietness. Honestly, if you don't need to be flooring it everywhere the G80 3.8 is a good choice.

Would you take this over an Mercedes E class ?
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
The E-Class is a fantastic vehicle. However, there are a ton of them on the road so I would choose the G80 to be a bit different. Also, the G80 will have a lot more features per dollar than the equivalent E-Class. The base E350 with a 255 HP 2.0T I4 starts at $63,150 CAD before delivery/destination and taxes whereas the top end G80 with a 420 HP 5.0 V8 from the previous generation topped out at $65,000 CAD + taxes (including delivery and destination)!

I will most likely make that very same comparison next year between a top of line G80 vs a E400 or E450. I think it really boil down to how the G80 interior looks in person. Based on video, I think it's good but really have to sit in one to see. I also expect it to drive well (in comparison to the E class). Don't think the price matter that much (to me) at the end of the day but will see. Also the fact that Genesis warranty is amazing may skew it since for E class it's probably better as a lease or buy used versus buying new for Genesis.

Anthony C Well I comparing the current g80 now vs the current e class / BMW 5 series . Is your answer still the same still ?
@nobility5340
@nobility5340 4 года назад
There are some comparisons online between the old G80 3.3T Sport and the previous E43 AMG. While the E43 AMG does have a performance advantage and some higher end features, the G80 Sport offered close levels of both for several tens of thousands of Canadian dollars less. Because of this, I personally know people that have purchased the G80 over the E43. If you're comparing the G80 3.3T (or 5.0) to an E400/E450 the G80 3.3T Sport should compare favorably.

I do personally know several people that own/could easily afford a Mercedes or BMW and chose Genesis for various reasons, but of course I know people will always choose AMG or M and performance is a big part of that. You can't deny those sub-brands' individual histories and accomplishments. Genesis likely won't be getting near AMG or M for performance, at least for the first little while (the new eG80 could be quite good in terms of performance because EV), but I believe Genesis is nailing it in the classes it plays in.

To be fair, the 2nd gen G80 didn't really have any other cars to share its design language with--it was a one model sub-brand when it was designed. The design language of Genesis now is being used for all new and upcoming Genesis vehicles so there will be similarities (e.g. Athletic Elegance, Crest Grille, White Space, G-Matrix, Quad Headlamps). Genesis does want to build their presence on the road so these design characteristics may help imprint "Genesis" into people's minds. The Germans do it (e.g. Mercedes-Benz, Audi). I can see why one would want a unique-looking car, however.

The profile of the early model G80 looks precisely like my older Infiniti M35x. I feel like I'm buying my car again, except it's a bit slower w the 3.8 but has a smoother drive since the M35 was designed for performance and had a tighter suspension.

Bill, did you just recently buy a G80 3.8? The G80 3.8 had its suspension tuned by Lotus so it definitely is comfortable yet can handle some corners adequately for a big car when gently pushed. Thanks for commenting!
