Does The 2021 Genesis G80 Beat The Mercedes-Benz E-Class As The Luxury Benchmark? Let's Find Out! 

The Genesis looks like an $80k car when it's only $55k while the Mercedes looks like an 80k car because it costs 80k. Get Genesis with the 375hp v6 and it is better than the Mercedes in every way.

When Mercedes changed their exterior design with A class, I thought they were trying to differentiate their cheaper lines from higher ones by using less appealing design. Then to my surprise, they changed all other lines the same design as the one in the A class. I was like what are they thinking? As a result, G80 has a more elegant design than the Mercedes.

Bought the G80 2 months ago (prestige package, 3.5tt and AWD) ... Absolutely love it !! Chose it over the MB and BMW (reliability issues and costs of maintenance, short and long term) as well as the A6 and A7, and not regretting it in the least bit. I even look for reasons to take it for a drive ... what's that honey, we need more milk ?... ;)

I'll go with the Genesis.

Genesis looks better and more reliable. Problem with Mercedes is that they watered the brand down with the A Class and CLA. Look identical.

I’m 6ft1 as well and recently got picked up by an E Class Taxi. The rear room was appalling. That Genesis looks really nice. We will never know as I don’t think we will ever get it in the UK

If you're buying a car to impress your co-workers, you get the Mercedes. If you're buying a car for yourself, you get the G80 with the bigger engine.

Should have compared it to the V6 G80

Genesis is crazy beautiful on styling. Get the V6 and put another $5k in suspension tuning and upgrades and you have The winner.

G80 hands down

Just fyi: the V6 model has a different adaptive suspension & better features (that would compete much better w/ handling). But imo the Benz new monitors look sooooooooooo tacky. It's like they slapped-on a 42" monitor onto the dashboard. On that note, I'd rather have the G80 (but the higher Prestige V6 model w/ digital 3D gauge & better features).

so Genesis is a clear winner because who cares about the handling in this segment. It's meant to be a luxurious highway cruiser.

I’d take the Genesis because owning it after the warranty expires would be a breeze.

I don't know. $15K in my pocket can feel pretty good. Not to mention the cost of maintenance and repairs. With MB, based on past experience, the more tech it has, the more tech problems you'll get.

Pretty sure the V6 G80 comes with upgrades suspension as well?

But this Genesis is what Lincoln and Cadillac should have been: the baseline of what luxury car buyers want, with a few gadgets, gimmicks and a couple of ounces of performance, and all at a price North Americans are far and away more willing to pay! Hyundai of America I love you!!! I love TFL, too but you already knew that! 🥕! 🐰

Exterior, the G80 looks so imposing that Mercedes looks like the cheap one. Interior is a coin toss.

I am upgrading from G70 to G80, I hope I do not regret. I liked G70 but needed that extra boot and legroom

Man that genius is one handsome car makes that Mercedes look like a much cheaper car . I think one thing missed in this video was warranty reliability and resale is still take the Genesis I all things considered yes the Merc will have higher resell but alot of people lease these cars the real deal is when 3 yrs old . I want bank for buck and bet that turbo 6 in the Genesis will run with that Merc although any thing that's inline is smooth design . Funny how we have come full circle with the digital dash they were all the rage in the 80s and early 90s then they all but disappeared I always though they were cool but I think alot of designs are getting too arcade looking and distracting which is the opposite of what u want .

Why compare a I6 to a I4 and then complain about price? The comparison makes no sense.

The G80 3.5 Sport Prestige is $71k all in everything included, every bell, every whistle. It's so worth it. You get much bang for your buck. So much.

I’ll take a Genesis g80 3.5T prestige over the e450. The Genesis has a more tech still, more power, and more luxury and class, but the e450 has the sporty characteristics, so it just comes down to personal preference.

G80 v6 is much stronger than the E

The Genesis is for the smart buyer. The Mercedes is for the pretentious.

i like the genesis. i like full size tire.

Genesis is the better vehicle here whether buying or leasing because it costs less, cheaper to maintain, better mpg, better rear legroom especially for taller family members or passengers mostly if used as a limo/taxi/Uber. Also the Genesis doesn’t have fake chrome exhaust tips or on the front bumper. The spare tire is a very smart and rare touch nowadays. Genesis is luxurious under the radar alternative not as flashy as the Mercedes but very classy looking.

I would rather get a Genesis. I think they are really nice. And I like the idea of sticking a big middle finger up to anyone who thinks they are too good for a Hyundai.

Love the E-class interior but the Genesis exterior does it for me, except for that disgustingly huge grille. This looks like an E450, which if you ever own Mercedes, you would know that you need quite a lot of options for it to look good. If you want to go with Mercedes, you have to spend the money and get the higher level trims. A lot of people don't understand that and they just "want a Mercedes". The higher trims, albeit can cost twice as much as other cars in its class, are very worth it and nothing else even compares (if money isn't an issue). The driving dynamics and performance in the Mercedes is still better. I know a lot of people on here just look at cars in terms of what you get for your money, and as a value proposition, I would definitely give the win to the Genesis.

G80 all the way. MB reliability is hectic at best, not to mention costs to maintain it. Warrantee with the G80 is excellent as well. All that MB tech will come back to haunt you and your bank account.

Why would you compare E450 362 HP with 2.5T 300 HP instead of 365 HP 3.5T Genesis for a better comparison unless you wanna show Benz superior ?

I'd take the Genesis but I'm currently not looking for luxury, I'm looking for a premium/ sporty car like the Acura TLX Type S or Alfa Romeo Gulia or Stelvio QV.

Get the Sport G80 awd rear wheel steering 375-380 HP sport tuned suspension and it still is 10k less than that Benz

I'm not sure why but some of the e class's have real exhaust tips and some dont. We have a 2021 e350 and it has a real exhaust tips and not a fake one its unusual

Genesis has been testing prototypes of a G80 Sport for a while, it's expected to have the same 3.5tt but with more power (420+ hp) and sportier suspension. No idea when it will come out, but they better bring something that's actually comparable to the S6 and E53.

Genesis nailed the aesthetics inside and out, however, the straight six in the Mercedes blows the coffee grinder V6 in the Genesis out of the water. Genesis has gotten pretty bold with their pricing in the past year, a V6 AWD G80 is comparably priced now to the E450, it's no longer the value proposition. Now on looks and interior quality, they can compete, but the smoothness of the I6 is hard to beat.

Funny how ppl keep calling Genesis "Hyundai " in order to discredit it. But don't call Lexus a toyota, Audi a Volkswagen, or Acuca a Honda. Why is it that Genesis, which is the standalone luxury brand, is the only luxury brand that the naysayers still want to associate with their parents company as opposed to other so called luxury brands? Maybe because they see how fast its growing and outshinning their fav brand. Genesis is just getting started, imagine in 5yrs

My G80 does everything that Mercedes does. It even has 21 speakers, rear passenger screens on the side and back windows. I have the ride stabilization it can't get any better. Why didn't you rest the 6 cylinder.

Bot an Adriatic Blue G90 with beige interior. I have never seen another G90 during the 2 years of ownership here uin Michigan. Seen lits of G80s though!

You can't complain the buttons in the E are complicated then go and complain that everything's a screen in other cars. In the E, everything is laid out well and buttons are a good way to feature tactile and luxurious switchgear instead of having to dig through infotainment to adjust the seats or vents.

Both are very good but I would pick the E class.

You feel the difference in the underlying engineering of the car. You pay more for a Mercedes and you feel it when you drive it daily. Features don't make a good car. It is why German cars usually have minimal features as standard but that is because they spent all the money engineering it to make it feel like no other. I drove this E Class and was surprised how agile and light it felt when taking corners yet it felt solid and hefty in a straight line as well as comfortable over bumps. There is a level of polish you won't see anywhere else.

I take the Mercedes-Benz e class over the g80 . I respect the g80

They use the fake exhaust to prevent soot from building up on the bumper. GDI engines have a tendency to output soot.

Merc - more power, better handling, better / more tech, better driving experience. You get what you pay for.

I'm not even a Genesis fan but I'll definitely take the Genensis over the Merc. Mercedes are junks! Genesis quality & reliability can't be worse.

THe center screen is not integrated at all on the Genesis. Looks like it was bolted on after they figured out what size screen they might get.

Mercedes all day long. The genesis looks like they designed it with a ruler for "trendy" kids aka hipsters. The mercedes looks classy, like usual. The i6 in the new mercedes are awesome, although i'd take an e400d over this. Interior of the genesis also looks quite a lot worse imo.

Both in 5 years will sell for a 1/3 of new. 7 years? Less. Benz.

Mercedes or nothing

Korean cars continue to exhibit horrid exterior design architecture. How anybody can buy a Hyundai & actually appreciate the styling is mind boggling. The best thing that Hyundai & Kia can do is to poach some designers from Alfa Romeo/Maserati, Porsche, or Audi & start all over. Korean designs have always looked like botched efforts at copying more well established brands. 👎🏻
