Lee and Pete start with about 40 drive pedals & choose their favourite 5 for a mild bluesy driven guitar tone. To be fair, every pedal we tried sounded cool in its own way, so this is really just us picking ones that we liked best. There are literally 100s of great pedals out there for this kind of guitar tone, so if you've bought or like something different to ones we like, don't feel bad!!

No disrespect to Chapman, but it’s real refreshing to hear someone else play and review gear on this channel. Pete is an awesome guitar player!

Hi. Without being (wholly) self serving, a show on pairing overdrives with Vox AC amps would benefit many I feel. Vox AC style amps are reputed to be very hard to pair with overdrives, and many come unstuck here. It would be great to hear your collective experience applied to choices of overdrives to pair with Vox AC amps, both normal and, especially, top boost channels (since some models only come with top boost circuitry). Even your friends at That Pedal Show I think neglected to mention whether using the top boost or not when they did the five modern ODs into three amps episode. Sorry for posting twice. I posted again here when I realised it felt more like the 'main' video for this series / idea. Thanks again for all the hard work.
@asmallfarmhomestead3657
@asmallfarmhomestead3657 7 лет назад
Dean Johnston I second this, almost no one uses vox ac15 for pedal videos and considering that's one of the most popular amps tons of people aren't getting any info on how a pedal will sound
@johnhorning2506
@johnhorning2506 7 лет назад
Agreed.
@deanjohnston104
@deanjohnston104 7 лет назад
Thanks for the replies. Yes, those few videos featuring the Vox AC that I can find tend to be both poor in sound quality and with no mention of which channel they are using. With someone like the Anderton’s crew (or That pedal Show team), you have the possibility of not only well recorded sound, but also the meaningful opinions of people who have a far vaster range of amp / pedal experience than most. It would be cool.

Parts 1 and 2 of this extravaganza were both brilliant and much appreciated, Gents! I loved hearing all these pedals one right after another, because I think it makes them far easier to compare. I only wish we could've heard one of you solo on the Les Paul afterwards, because the difference between the two guitars playing the same pedals was immense. I picked out my personal fave of the bunch for Pete's Strat (the Lightspeed), but I was less sure about the Les Paul. So I'd vote for at least a brief revisit of the same five pedals with The Paul. Thanks again!

@gloreano
@gloreano 6 лет назад
In my opinion when they tried each pedal by itself, it did not let me know much. But once Pete played each pedal along with the backing loop, then the pedals began to come alive and I could judge them better. I always find it that sometimes pedals, guitars and amps sound one way by themselves and at times very unexciting. But when played with other instruments or in a band setting at decent volumes they come alive and I can hear how good they are. For me out of the five the Looking Glass, Tone City and Light speed sounded the best. Just my opinion and nothing more. Cheers.

I own the J Rocket Dude and Sweet Cream as well as the J Rocket Archer... I finally got rid of my Sweet Cream pedal though.. it was a pretty good boost/ light over drive, but compared to the Archer or the Dude it just didn't hold up. The Dude is very versatile.. it can get a compressed sound or nice mids or a good beefy low end boost and it has a ton of volume boost if needed. I personally stack my Archer into the Dude.... that sounds amazing. J Rocket is making some really great stuff.

I'm glad he didn't spill his coffee on that pretty rug! Me? I just plug into the amp, and that is the sound I love (and mate')! (I do fancy footing on my Vox wha-wha occasionally, and am probably better at that than playing guitar, which isn't saying much, and I admit to having a Vintage 47 clean-boost, but I NEVER use it - usually, and also a fine little Xotic compressor, supposedly to help me sound like Lowell George on slide, but again I NEVER use it - usually....and in the past I went through a few pedals, but never used them - usually. Just plug straight in and get those power tubes cooking, with just a touch of overdrive - no preamp distortion...or PEDALS - usually)

Here's the thing- these all sound great but, Caline makes a 30 dollar pedal called the Pure Sky that imo is as good or better than anything on the table here. It's a Timmy clone I hear, and it sounds just like it so- I don't doubt it, but whatever, all I know is it sounds great, it's 30 bucks, and they're super easy to find. It's developed a cult like following here on RU-vid- it's really popular. The only low gain drive I ever had that beat it was the Wampler Tumnus deluxe, but you're talking 150-200 bucks for one of those. The drive doesn't sound that much better, but the Wampler has a really potent eq section on it- which makes it perfect for shaping other drives in your drive section.

Curious if Lee has tried the Jackson Audio Prism... this pedal really sweetens the entire rig. there is nothing quite like it. ive tried everything from a Bondi Effects Del Mar to an Emerson Custom Paramount and a few other Klon-style transparent overdrives, but the Prism just works wonders, especially functioning just as a preamp/clean boost. not sure how he did it but Brad Jackson definitely came up with something very special
