Gentlemen- The Holy Trinity is simply this: Pinaud Clubman, Original Aqua Velva and Skin Bracer! I have recently added La Toja afther shave locion... That's my expensive daily... You cannot beat them. During the summer I freshen up with a splash of Aqua Velva or Skin Bracer! It cools things down quickly and your refreshed and ready to role!!!
Found memories, grand father always wore Old Spice. My father mostly wore Aqua Velva blue, but occasionally Brut, and Skin Bracer. Skin Bracer was always my favorite plus the original glass bottle was cool with the small dot indentations. I also remember an English Leather lime that was very good. As I have gotten older and have a thing for anything classic and old, I tried and love Mauer & Wirtz - Tabac, reminds me somewhat of an Old Spice but with florals, great frag. Excellent review I will be looking for Irish Moos
My first scent in the 70's when I was 17 was Jōvan Musk, so many compliments! Others early on were Jōvan Sex Appeal, Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac, Brut, Royal Copenhagen, Kanon and Stetson. I also had a "three pack" that contained English Leather, Wind Drift and Lime. Great content!
Skin Bracer probably inspired Le Male with that mint-lavender-vanilla combo. 😄 My fav aftershave for years and years before I started using lotions. Very sweet though compared to some of the other offerings out there.
Gillette Cool Wave seems to have a slight similarity to Aventus as my husband exclusively uses that one before using his Aventus. With fragrances like Cool Water, Polo Sport, or Versace Dylan blue he uses Aqua Velva Ice Sport because it has a strong resemblance to those fragrances as well.
If you like Gillette cool wave, try that little blue bottle of Gillette aftershave gel it's the same sent but a little lighter and way less expensive. Cool wave has become Gillettes signature sent and it's awesome.
I actually picked up an amazing tip from a random reviewer on Amazon. For all the guys who complain that Old Spice doesn't smell like it used to, that they've dialed down the spice and made it so sweet now, search for "Original" Old Spice, rather than "Classic" Old Spice. Everyone agrees that it still smells just like it used to. It still comes in the bright white glass bottle, rather than the current one in the cream-colored plastic bottle. It costs twice as much, bringing it up to a whopping $12, and it's made in Italy. I now have both and I have to agree, there really is a difference.
The "Original" Old Spice that's made in Europe for P&G isn't officially sold in the USA. Most of the members of the Badger&Blade shaving forum think it's about the same as the USA classic version. I'd like to try the European edt version and compare it to the USA cologne version. Have you tried the Old Spice that's made in India? The original from India along with Old Spice Lime may be a bit closer to the Shulton version, but since Shulton licensee Menezes' license expired about a decade ago, P&G licensed it to Rubicon and their version lost something. The Old Spice Lime from India is excellent, though.
@@shave-a-thon3415 Very interesting, I didn't know that I'll definitely start looking out for those two versions. I can't help it, for such a cheapie, I have a very nostalgic connection to Old Spice. I haven't gotten to try the EDT, either, but I'd love to.
Fine American Blend aftershave is amazing. I’m really into wet shaving as I went to a Catholic high school too. Where I learned that cartridge razors don’t work for me.
Oh see I don’t bother with the wet shaving straight razor, to much time and more shit I need to buy lol I love the Gillette fusion 5 blade. AB by Fine accoutrements is awesome though I agree I have the aftershave, balm and edt
I love Skin Bracer in the summer! I wish someone made an edt of it as I'd wear the heck out of it because it smells really awesome but lasts like 1h max on me.
.. I see you remembered Pasteur Pharmacy... I sent you (Knize Ten) which I originally purchased from Pasteur over two years ago. I've purchased Irische Moos from Canadian website. I think it's great stuff!!
Great aftershave video and I enjoyed it and I like old spice and skin bracer and pinaud clubman and I'm going to try the other aftershaves and have a blessed day
I love Cool Wave, though I don't use it much these days because I've been wearing more of other types of fragrances and I don't want them to clash. But on days when I'm not wearing some other fragrance, it's my go-to!
Cool list, love Clubman and Irisch Moos. My favorite is Fresh Up, don't know about availability around the world but definitely worth a try if you can find it. The Gillette one I'm not about to try after that man hating ad they did, I'm not supporting that company lol
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey it's a classic and sooo clean. The 'cushion' applicator is interesting too. If you can't get it there and _really_ want to try it, I could help you source a bottle - it's readily available and quite affordable where I am, just kinda hurts to pay double the price of the product for shipping! 😅
I was surprised when he said it wasn't overwhelming. Did they reformulate it? My 2016 bottle of Aqua Velva Musk is stronger than some edt's. That thing projects for at least 2 hours.
My stepdad used Skin Bracer. I often use it as an aftershave when I wear Georgio Beverley Hills and Mennen Speed Stick deodorant. I get more compliments from women in this layer combo than you'd believe.
The vintage Giorgio for Men by Giorgio of Beverly HIlls was one of the strongest men's fragrances ever made. It was an oakmoss bomb. The current version is strong but it can't light up a room with one spray like the 1980's version did!
@@shave-a-thon3415 I got Giorgio last week and my batch was produced just a month ago, I'm 26 but I love this stuff but sadly it projects for like 30 minutes then becomes a skin scent and the longevity is like 4 hours max, super dissapointing. I'll have to find a vintage bottle online because I really want to experience Giorgio the way it was meant to.
sir Irische Moos is readily available here in Switzerland. The clove and oak moss stand out the most to me. A very fresh green scent as you said. it pairs nicely 👌 with Paco Rabanne Por Homme. I rend to use S.I. Moos more in the warmer months and classic Denim in the cooler 😎 weather. I'm of fan of aldehydes, but my wife not. I also grew up having British Sterling in the 60s and 70s which I enjoyed. But shipping and import taxes are just too high these days 🙄. Great review as usual brother. As born and bred New Yorker I love your style.
I hope he reads these comments. He said his vintage bottle was made in Florida. Dana bought it from Mem which was located in New Jersey. I wonder if he has the original Speidel version of British Sterling before they sold it to Mem.
@@shave-a-thon3415 Ive got a vintage bottle of the cologne but the top note is starting to turn bad... And Have a bottle the Dana aftershave it is seems pretty close to the original. Another old school after shave I like is Florida Water.
Traveled extensively to Japan in the 80s and 90s. Given a sample of Shisedo’s Auslese aftershave on a JAL flight and was hooked. Available at every drug store in Tokyo, but real hard to find in the US. Would buy multiple bottles, and still working on my private reserve. Can find on EBay, but must pay a premium. Great stuff!
Floid Mentolado Vigoroso is my go to when I need a very close shave after about a 3 to 4 day growth. Floid "The Genuine" is very close if not the same thing. Floid was purchased by the owners of Proraso recently.
@@shave-a-thon3415 I heard about that purchase and that they had changed the formulation of Floid, which now became "the genuine" or something like that. When I smelled the new version it seemed much weaker, but I have not tried it on my skin.
I remember "Skin Bracer" (Menem) in the old times, it was my father's most used aftershave (I think one was menthol and the other one was green-spicy) and with Brut, we took a big splash after a shave ............ the Skin Bracer aftershave was great and potent back on the day ............ and I had before the Guillette cool water aftershave, it was very good aftershave, the scent lasts a very long time but I haven't used recently so I guess it has changed by now. I think you skipped Demin's original aftershave, it was and still is a great aftershave that for the price nobody can complain about.
Hello and good review of the drugstore aftershaves. So, I came across your video, because I''m trying to remember an old aftershave/cologne that was sold in drugstores and Albertson''s supermarket back the 80''s and before. I was simply curious to recall it and see the bottle for the memory, it was one my uncle loved and It happened to cross my mind , I use to buy it for him since they didn''t sell it in Europe, but I''ve googled non-stop and can''t seem to find it, if I''m not mistaken it came in a plastic bottle and the bottle was brown or black and possibly started with an S, but not sure about the letter part.
Speick is a really fresh, nice scent. I only have the deo stick, but I gather that the AS is the same scent, the aroma would really work well for that purpose. Apparently it contains some aromatic herb from the Alps.
I just used the search function and couldn't find any reviews for English Leather! That was a drugstore brand at one time and the first cologne I've ever purchased. While the current Dana version isn't close in strength to the original Mem version, the general scent is there. You could do 10 minutes on just the ad campaigns over the years! There were several variations including a delicious smelling shaving cream. I also think there was a shaving soap at one time. You can pick up the aftershave and cologne from Fragrancenet and there are plenty of vintage ones for sale on Ebay.
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey Gift set? Is that the one with the balm and another tube? That's pretty old. It might have gone bad. Dana stopped producing English Leather a few years ago and those sets were possibly manufactured a few years before that. I think the bottle in that set was also weaker than the aftershave. Dana started producing it again about 2 years ago. Try the current cologne and compare it against a vintage Mem version. There are plenty on Ebay.
@@tedolphbundler724 English Leather is released in both cologne and aftershave versions. Even when Mem owned the company when I first started wearing it 50 years ago, there was a cologne and aftershave version. The musk cologne and musk shaving cream were great, too!
I was really surprised by addidas dynamic pulse has the olskool fougere vibe with a modern touch I bought that and the the cologne to match and was let down a lil because the aftershave lasts longer than the edt
Mennen has a few aftershaves in France manufactured in glass bottles as the brand is owned by L'Oreal there. Here in the USA, we're stuck with the old one in the cheap plastic bottle.
I sport a beard so I miss out on the aftershave stuff unfortunately ( I remember when I shaved finding some real nice strong bright clean fresh unique scents) but I really wanna try Aqua Velva because (if I remember correctly) Danny Davio got it as a gift in the movie Twins and tossed it in the trash and I wanna see if it was really as bad as he thought. I don't remember which Aqua Velva it was.
