@shredderracing ‪@FieldingShredder‬ made us a video about the top 5 mistakes NEWB drifters make when they get started. I asked him to help out some of the new people and guide them through his mistakes early on so they don't have to live through all the same disasters. I watched Fielding struggle through blowing up half a dozen 2JZ engines, struggling with hand made wide body on his S14, building his own tube front structure and dealing with shops that were great and terrible. He has been on the Netflix show Hyperdrive, done demo stuff at the Hoonigan SEMA Burnyard show, traveled across the planet to destroy a Nissan Skyline. Fielding is a wealth of knowledge to draw upon, and I hope you guys enjoy this little video! Thanks Fielding!

5 Years into the sport and I did every thing he said not to do. "Don't buy that S12" LOL, got it, gutted it, took 2 years to do a KA24DE swap on it. The thing broke at every event. Bought an S14 shell and built it from the ground up, wasting time and money. Blew the engine on the first lap of an event. Bought a stock G35 and have been driving the piss out of it for the last year. Making reasonable upgrades as I go. Seat time > Build time.

That last bit about "maybe not being a driver" still being around and doing other things in the Drift Community really spoke to me! Didn't really ever think of it like that. Who knows if one spent enough time doing something that wasn't being the driver, maybe one day it would pay off and they could be in a better place to be a driver. Great video, great advice!

I just wish more people would realize how much more fun drifting is and how much less stressful it is if you just slow down and buy a truck and a cheap trailer first. I saved up 4500 and brought a rock solid truck when I was 18. At 24 it’s still hangin in there and still tows all my cars anywhere I need them to go without question. Knowing that you can drive hard and still drive to work tomorrow is such a relief.

I actually was about to switch vids because you were wrapping up when you said something that might have changed my life: “I will take you for a ride in my car.” If I could show up at a drift event and do a bunch of ride alongs that would be awesome!!!!!! I am not interested in having a drift car because of all the work involved, but have so much respect for people who do, so riding along would be heaven for me!!!!!!! I will bring my motocross helmet!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!

The part about many tasks in drifting is SO true. Do your job good enough (announcer/commenter, mechanic, media, spotter etc) and you’ll get to go to events for free, maybe get a special pass that lets you be in areas where a regular spectator can’t be and in some cases - even get paid to be a part of a drift event while enjoying the best positions to do so. Yes, you will be tired after x full days of essentially working, but it will also be fun and it won’t destroy your bank account.

It's exactly what I've been needing the last while but I didnt realize that's what was missing, because on paper everything was absolutely perfect, but as you've said: it's all about the package and how stuff works together.. I made more than my fair share of mistakes on the 86 platform (biggest one was wasting money to plastidip the wheels and interior). I asked track questions to setup my car and i listened. Although I didn’t listen to when they said build the car slow and add parts as you need them. Fortunately i had the skill and learning ability to prove my choice to build faster legitimate. 8 seconds faster than a novice my first track day, then 19 seconds faster my 2nd track day 3 months later with full bolt ons, and a tune less suspension upgrades. I can easily say ppl ask my advice on the platform now and i still try to provide valuable input. Although most OG members in a group will troll bc they are tired of askholes. Lol Me buying a 240 not running is a horrible option based on your video, but i bought it to learn how to build a car up from scratch & to build my mechanic skill. It fits my purpose.

I decided to save and then eventually sold the body and bought a mint e36 328i which I’m finally making some progress on 😂. Also I learnt it’s so much better to work on your own car especially if you some to little mechanical knowledge it just allows you to learn from your own mistakes in future and learn your car better.

@LoneStarDrift
@LoneStarDrift 2 года назад
it highly depends on so many factors, but for most people and most cars, new tires are a better choice. And when I think about used tires, I am not thinking about dumpster 10 year old discount tire scrounging, but scrubs off other drift cars that have fairly fresh build dates and flat wear.

True, this is why you need to understand car engineering before purchasing a vehicle. You can by a Z stock and slap in some Coilovers, wheels and tires probably pushing 300HP, maybe change a clutch idk. Rather by a mini truck and say "damn, this has leaf's.. fuck, ima need to change the whole suspension for about 5k!". But I'm already confident in driving acing and appreciate Mini trucks more than any ride rn. Most sports cars come with IRS modern control arms.. decent aftermarket
