As someone who was also playing around Alliances, can confirm that Prof was not alone in that thought. But then again, you can tell the really old Magic players because we would open Revised boosters back in the day and be all, "Aw man, another Volcanic Island? I wanted a Shivan Dragon!"

Or an uncommon DT! Land walk or a flyer with unholy strength went a long way back in the day. Until they got bolted or swords. Loved those big Legends, too! I don’t even know what the current Legends rule is, mulligan also different (again). Long live house rules and slow decks!!

I remember about 10 years ago I went to a card store that still had packs of Alliances for $12 each. I purchased two packs, and the very first card I saw when I cracked the first pack was Force of Will.

I really like how they reprinted the full cycle of 1-mana instant tutors. Vampiric Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Worldly Tutor, and Gamble.

Sylvan Library actually has FOUR decisions. 1. Draw your first card; sylvan library ability goes onto the stack. Allowing you to cast a top deck tutor (or any other card before deciding if you want to draw the additional two cards). 6/8/2016----> You always perform your normal draw before this ability. The normal draw occurs before anything can be placed on the stack during a player's draw step. 2. Keep one card from the top three cards and place the other two back in any order. 3. Keep two cards from the top three -- paying four life. 4. Keep three cards from the top three -- paying eight life.

There is a card of each color as the most expensive card. That's kind of cool, usually 1 or 2 colors get shafted while others get a bunch of expensive reprints.

That story you told about Force of Will, I had something similar back in the day. As a mono-black discard/control kind of player I'd bought a lot of Fallen Empires boosters for Hymn to Tourach. When people later suddenly wanted High Tide, I made a killing as I had a stack of 'em that even the local stores had previously not wanted to buy as part of commons box bulk.

Another benefit of Sylvan Library is being able to put cards back into your library that need to be there (for example, large creatures in an Atla deck).

Only if you drew that card in the same turn you used Sylvan Library's draw ability. You can't put back a card that you drew on a previous turn.

5:09 It's even more confusing, because sylvan library doesn't mention cards to put back on top you drew with its own effect. It Mentiones cards you drew this turn. So if you cast a brainstorm in your upkeep, you can still chose cards drawn with brainstorm to put back on to of your deck with sylvan library. That's why you have to mark (by piling for example) your cards, drawn with brainstorm, so everyone knows if you're putting those back on your library and that you're not cheating. So having a fetchland in play + playing brainstorm + fetching after brainstorm + drawing 3 with library and putting 2 back (either form brainstorm or library) makes it confusing but completly broken.

Just went to a prerelease draft and had an unbelievable amount of fun drafting my first time since Theros/Born of the Gods. I went 1-2 and only ended up with a single prize pack, but inside that lone pack was the cherry on top of an already great night, Force of Will.

I've been playing standard for a few years now and seeing some of these cards help me understand that WOTC did imake mistakes along the way while progressing the game forward to today, but they learned from it and walk the fine line as much as possible with cards "being broken". Like, reading Vampiric Tutor made me exclaim out loud.

Sylvan library also pairs well with "Tefari, Temporal Pilgrim" a fist full of +1 loyalty counters, and the tokens he produce are essentially Toothy Tokens.

Breath of fresh air with the positivity. A good way to start 2023. Can you please review my favorite way to transport magic cards? The Stanley FATMAX Deep Pro 11-Compartment Small Parts Organizer. They sell it at home depot. The compartments come out. You can put cards in side ways and then top loaders showing for every commander. Its super secure because its a toolbox. I modified mine to include a strip of velcro on the side to attach my playmat case to it.

On some level they have to take every opportunity to reprint those cards to increase the availability of versions with artists who aren't problematic. All my versions are originals that I've had for decades but and if the price doesn't come down its hard to swap them out. I should just run alters.

Sylvan Library: You forgot Decision 0: Choose not to draw extra cards; draw only your top card, keep it, and lose no life. (Relevant if your opponent has Sheoldred, for example.)

I pulled a Sylvan Library Borderless Foil in a collector booster last week. Its market value is listed at close to $100 US, which is a lot higher than the $30-$40 price for the regular Borderless from DMR. I can't find an actual listing of the card anywhere though. I'll be curious to see the "is it worth it" for Dominaria Remastered. There are *some* good hits but the set is packed with bulk, and I don't think it's anywhere near worth that price tag. Certainly will be nice to bring down the price of some cards though.

So this is my Force of Will story. In the past 5 years or so I have opened a playset of FoW! I opened an invocation during a draft. Someone sold unopened alliances packs to the store and I opened a FoW there. A friend sold me his double masters box topper pack and I opened one there. The last one I honestly forget right now lol. The ongoing joke now is that I'll open one in Dominaria Remastered. I also turned around and sold them right away. I only play commander and as powerful as they are they are also not all that fun to play with or against. My group doesn't play CEDH

My guess as to why these reprints haven't dropped the card prices much yet - aside from the obvious factor of there not yet being enough time for many copies to get into the market - is that people who previously may have decided they simply couldn't afford to get multiple copies of such cards to play with may suddenly change their minds should they pull one.

Sylvan Library od even more powerfull because u don't even have to choose the cards you drawn with it, you can put any card from your hand. It gives you a free and better brainstorm every draw step.

I was super excited to see so many commander staples reprinted, then I lookd at the prices of the reprinting and I am deflated. I want reprints to impact the prices. I get that these are some of the fromat all stars of the format but as a new player who is struggling to build a collection out of these cards that have been around for so long, then the reprint barely affects price 😢

That's the thing about Force of Will, back then it was bad because the power level of the game wasn't as insane as it had become decades later. You weren't plopping down 15/15s for free nor the other insane combos and the like, but thankfully Force was made long ago to battle the future.

Thing was. Power sink was a legit thing. 5 mana or a card to counter. Also land destruction was a real thing. 5 mana up front on its face is rough.

Sylvan Library is insane. You forgot to mention fourth option: It says "you may draw two additional cards" Also you can draw cards between untap and draw.
