2 days into my braces suffering from pain and no painkillers 😂

I’ve had mine in for 1.5 months, the 2nd day I wanted to rip my teeth out it hurt so bad

I had a large over bite.When I got braces, the dentist screwed in two mini screws(mini implants) into my upper gums, between the roots of my teeth. And then they hooked these rubber wires from the screws to the hooks on the brackets of my canines. It was too painful for me to handle, I even cried for straight a month, because the screws were LITERALLY shooting pain into my gums. But I'm genuinely happy from the results and the pain was worth it. My overbite is completely cured and my teeth is perfectly straight!

I've been in braces for almost 4 weeks and have had no pain (including from the extraction)!

I am a 58 yr old Englishman who had upper and lower metal braces fitted on 08/11/23 for the first time ever (as I have always had straight teeth) for a deep bite that has worsened over the last 5-10 years. Despite having a lower powerchain fitted from the very start, I have never had a moment of discomfort let alone pain from my actual teeth (cut up cheeks for the first couple of weeks was another matter!). My bite blocks were way too big to start with giving a massive 3-4mm of clearance above my bottom brackets. My ortho actually ground them down significantly at my first adjustment appt. and the. even further than that at my second monthly adj. appt. as if to acknowledge she’d made a massive mistake from the start by making them so large! Whilst I am a very determined person when I want to achieve something, I must admit I am thinking that the inability to enjoy food anymore (can‘t eat loads of foods / foods that are left will still break brackets / bite blocks STILL make chewing difficult / need to clean braces after every meal) is just not worth it bearing in mind my teeth were fairly straight to begin with (worse now 4 months into treatment!)…

luckily the poke wire thingy necer happened to me because my dentist would always ensure to cut those off 😂 For me, the power chain one would be the most painful thing (more painful than having braces on for the first time) because it feels like your muscle is getting torn apart and this feeling lasted for 5 days which made me super angry and want to hit someone 😠

Palatal Expander: Hold my beer

The most painful thing for me was the to long wire combined with a loose part in the back. The wire didn't poke into my cheek, it rubbed against my last tooth, rubbed and rubbed until it got through the outer layers and started hurting as hell. Technician told me it's all in my head and I should start getting used to the pain since there are little kids who deal better then me, so I ignored it and used a ton of pain meds. When I went back to the dentist eventually, she saw a bit of "discolouration" und pocked the flubby stuff out of my tooth: the nerve died and puss came out. So they removed the tooth that was supposed to went a place to the front to close a gap I had. All for nothing. After that we had a bad relationship, they refused to take the braces out when I wanted to stop the treatment until they get the full amount they expected at the end. The braces made it hard for me to clean and after the first hole formed, it all went south and I lived for years with braces holding on to rotting teeth. That was also very painful...

The palate expander was number one for me. A close number two was having teeth extractions.

i had four teeth removed for braces just a few weeks ago. they gave me a bunch of numbing cream and anaesthetic but it definitely is a bother for a while and it feels like your cheek is swollen but it looks perfectly normal. not exactly painful but definitely uncomfortable 😭😭

Never had a power chain but I did have upper and lower expanders and lemme tell you...they suck so much. Then the black old food they pull out...that always happens no matter how much you clean. And it's not the soreness of the first week. Because they just put the brackets on first and THAT is torture. You can't eat and it's tearing your lips up and no amount of wax helps. It falls off. After you get used to the brackets a bit they'll put the wire in. Then it's more lip pain. Not even mentioning the wire adjustments/replacement appointments. I still have the lip scars. But DAMN my smile is gorgeous.

Got four teeth pull out before i got my braces. It really wasnt that bad. Not much people would talk about Spacers🙃but to me those rubber bands were really painful.

Congrats on 6 mil! I’ve had every single one of these and it is NOT fun. When I was 8 my ortho’s solution to crowded teeth was “take her to the hospital and pull out 8 of them”. Luckily I get my braces off in September, which is 6 months early!

I've had zero pain when I got mine put on only time I had pain was about a day or 2 when I got my lower brackets bonded just the hooks

I got 4 teeth removed like 3 or 2 weeks ago, it didn't hurt but the injections with the anesthesia do hurt a bit. Also- my mouth started bleeding and i couldn't do anything abt it bc i couldn't feel my mouth or move it thanks to the anesthesia. I'm happy that the braces are doing their work pretty great, i mean- my mouth is pretty fcked up but it's looking better and i only got braces like last week-

I had pokey wires on both sides on my 2nd adjustment, I thought it would happen every time and I hated it. My check used to get caught on it and one time I got my actual tongue caught on it

I had to get a few baby molars pulled because the roots weren't rotting, and my adult teeth were coming in. Wasn't a painful procedure, but the pressure you feel in your skull when it's getting pulled was... interesting. My first week of braces, all the front bottom brackets were knocked off by my top teeth, so I had to get them reapplied. That was fun.

The problem is you can’t get wax way in the back of the mouth where the wire is stabbing your cheek 💀

Hi, i have a question. We have drsmile in The Netherlands and it is pretty big. But they don't use braces they use aligners to get your teeth straight. Is it possible that it works the same as braces with aligners? I would love to hear from you. -Joy

One time, I woke up in the morning, like usual, and noticed my pillow had a hand sized stain of blood. I still don’t know how I managed to bleed that much due to my braces 😂 had a mini heart attack after waking up 😂

I wanna ask acc,since assymetry is caused by ur lower jaw shifting,and since thats known as a crossbite since it also affects your teeth,can braces help with facial assymetry

Eating a Subway sub with a fork and a knife because it hurt too much to bite into it was always an interesting experience. My worst pain was when I got a sore in front of my lower incisors. I tried calling my dentist office (I didn’t go to orthodontist) for advice, and they told me to put wax on it. I said I already did that, and the receptionist just kept repeating to put wax on it even after I said I couldn’t take a single bite of food without the wax coming off. According to her, I guess I needed wax after each bite of food. It would’ve been less maddening if she had said sorry but there isn’t anything to do except wait it out. At least that would’ve shown she was listening as opposed to suggesting wax with every bite of food.

the worst thing is having actual gold chain in your mouth being pulled by the braces

i’ve had my braces for about three days now and it’s definitely start to feel a bit worse not to mention i have to get four teeth removed a week from today which will add on i’m sure.

So I just got braces because my k-nine (or however you spell it) is way up in my lip and I need a spring and than my Orthodontist will pull the tooth down, but the pain is so much and I've been using so much wax on the tooth because the bracket was tearing a hole in my lip!😭

Bruh. The first night of having braces I couldn't even SLEEP from the pain so I threw a tantrum at my grandma's (where I had conquered grandpa's spot in the bed and he was left in the guest room, whoops) and cut my entire wire with tiny shears while crying and screaming. I don't think having had my upper canines removed the day before worked in my advantage either (they refused to give up their thrones so my permanent "adult" teeth were coming in through my palate...

Power chains are not that painful after a day or two. But the pokey wires and hooks are on point. 😂

I had 9 teeth removed before I got my bottom braces. I was given a choice of splitting the procedure and I said nope, take ‘em all at once while I’m down!

braces hurt a lot for a week? Mine was painful 2 hours and since it never bother me at all. The most painfull was post op palatal expander, 4 to 5 days of pure pain!

I had braces in my 20's had all 5 things happen, but it also loosened my roots and some of them cracked/broke and eventually I lost those teeth. if you want to keep your teeth get braces younger because the bone does not regrow when you are an adult.

I got some teeth removed when I got my braces back when I was a teenager and it didn’t hurt because they injected me with an anaesthetic in my gums (you just dribble for a couple of hours because your mouth is numb) Don’t you guys do the same in the us? I am french btw.

Just had 4 teeth pulled today for my orthodontist treatment (at the age of 32). It doesn't hurt, it's just the recovery process and being careful to not cause a dry socket is very cumbersome. It's definitely a traumatic experience, though, getting 8 injections and 4 teeth violently ripped out within a span of 5 minutes. I don't want to relive that ever.

I got my braces tightened yesterday and you forgot one: Traction wires..They hurt so much to the point where I have had to ice them for the 1st time.
