172k on my G6 and she's still rocking. Had the BCM connector issue as well as the turn signal issue. Total about $40 bucks spent on the fixes. I'm gonna drive this thing until the wheels fall off lol
I own an 07 G6. They used the same Signal switch on the Chevy Cobalt, G6, and Saturn Aura that I know of. And Idk why the switches have such issues on each vehicle its installed. I gotta go order one for mine. It's like $28 on Amazon.
@@LuisSanchez-1 Ditto, just what Michael said. Got my turn signal switch assembly on Amazon for $25. If you don't know what you are doing, it take about 5 minutes. Extend the telescoping steering column out away from the dashboard... that will make the job easier.
I bought an 06 G6 3 years ago with 30,000 miles!!! It was super low mileage and I love it, I’ve taken super good care of it and I’ve only had to replace the turn signal switch but it only took 15minutes! It’s a great car!
Only thing that I would add is the headlights. The cheap wiring breaks and one or both lights go out... intermittently. You need to go buy the pigtails and solder the new ones in.
2:10 I actually love that it doesn't automatically get rid of the turn signal because sometimes in other cars it removes too quickly and with the g6 I have control on when to get rid of the signal.
I do like it too but as my G6 is my first car.. I'm gonna hate it when I get a new one cuz imma be switching straight to my other turn signal cuz I'm too used to doing it myself🤣
i’m glad it works well for you! but my area requires you to turn off your signal then turn it back on every time you merge to another lane even if you’re merging across multiple lanes at the same time. that way drivers around you know that you’re merging instead of assuming you just didn’t turn the wheel enough for the signal to turn off
my 2005 pontiac g6 has had every single one of these problems minus the turn signal switch. great car tho. 330k miles and still going! also the electrical steering going out was fixed for free at the dealer due to a recall.
How long ago was it that the dealer repaired electronic power steering issue for you? And wash there any specific guidelines that would dictate rather or not they would repair it for you?
Had 3 G6s in my life and i loved them all. Last one I had was a GT sedan with the panoramic sunroof which I LOVED! Had almost 300k miles on it and never had a single issue besides having to replace a wheel bearing. Have a G8 GT now but would like another G6 for winters
Melting power steering hoses: One significant issue worth noting is on G6's that have hydraulic power steering (as opposed to electric power steering). I had a G6 GT 3.5L V6. The power steering lines both run right under the rear exhaust manifold. And when I say right under I mean RIGHT under it. When the engine is under load and it tilts back, that rear exhaust manifold leans back and TOUCHES the power steering hoses. The hoses have some heat shields on them but those are worthless against the super hot exhaust. My power steering hoses melted all the way through one day and out went all my power steering fluid onto the ground. This happened while I was driving, so I lost all power steering assistance. I was able to replace the hoses and secure them down with some zip ties. This held the hoses at least a couple inches away from the exhaust, but I wish there was a better design for that. Every drive after that, I had to worry if it was about to melt again. Just something to watch out for and ask about any service history on that issue.
I'm actually going through this now. Trying to find a video on replacing the power steering return line. I can find a bunch on the high pressure line..none for the return..
I have a 2006 G6 V6 3.5 and i have had to change out the blinker switch, replaced starter, replaced fuel pump, and i have had the transmission rebuilt, but my car runs great now. I love the power that my G6 has it will get up and go.
I've owned 2 of these sub models and when the internal voltage regulator goes out inside the ALTERNATOR, the body control module freaks out under hard acceleration and you lose power steering, in addition to the instrument panel resetting, until you remove your foot from the hard acceleration. In both cases I opted for an UPGRADED alternator instead of and OEM replacement, and have NEVER had a problem after. In severe cold whether starts, the charging voltage can be high, causing you the steering to act nervous but after a few minutes of warm up, your fine.
I feel better every time I see one of these videos. I own a 2006 Pontiac coupe and my only problem is the blinker thing. And the general problems just don't seem to be a major threat and or easy to fix
you should make it top ten cause there are plenty of issues. like the shifting linkage, the oil leaks, And The plastic heater lever under the dash that switches it from hot to cold. I have 260 thousand on mine and I do have to say the car still feels tight {like new} and runs great handles good to
I bought one with almost 200,000 and the front wheel bearing is one thing I gotta replace plus we had to fix the back struts your days are numbered man😂
Mines is 187342 miles on a GXP G6 the only thing i had to do is redo the Timing Belt But besides that! normal Wear and tear stuff! As long you take care of the car ! it will take care of you!
@@johnwilliams73123 they’re great they run forever, mine almost has 200k miles and the power steering is the only thing i had to replace but after a few youtube vids it was honestly a very simple fix
G6 gt 2007 on 214k miles, so far I had a serpentine belt torn to shreds due to a/c pulley stalling, replaced exhaust system due to human error lol, replaced return line on rack and pinion due to it routing and pressing against exhaust burning a hole through it (that was a pain to fix but it was my first time), some grounding issues causing a bunch of lights on my hud, alternator going bad, o2 sensor replaced, and yeah I think more but IT STILL RUNS. Thankfully and I did it all by hand no mechanics and I ain’t even that knowledgeable on cars 👍🏼
I got my G6 handed down to me with about 120k on it, i’ve had to replace the solenoids, power steering sensor, and turn signal switch all in the last 2 years. Overall it could be worse, and it’s been a pretty reliable car!
@@jayden-jsjincorporated5089, I replaced my solenoids on my 2009 g6 2.4 recently. About $100 for the 2. Power steering sensor should be pretty affordable. Turn switch shouldn't be too high, either.
My G6 has over 293K on the odometer and I've had to replace the front wheel hub assembly and the headlights. She could probaly use a new Catalytic converter though. I have a P0140 right now
Wow! I have several of the problems you listed. My blinker has always been wonky. My wheel bearing is howling and my power steering quit working after I slid off the road the other day. The code reader says "lost communication with power steering control."
I own an 08 G6 with 110k miles. I've already had problems with the steering intermediate shaft rusting/seizing up, coolant temp sensor, transmission speed sensor, weak timing chain guides (had to replace the whole timing chain/guides), corrosion getting inside the trunk release button, weak door lock actuators, and my all time favorite is the obnoxious popping sound coming from the poorly designed rack & pinion. Mine broke apart inside and I lost control of the steering while driving. The turn signal doesn't cancel automatically anymore, I've had problems with the VVT solenoids even after replacing them, the dealership did a half ass job fixing the power steering issues, the transmission shifts hard when the engine is cold/during winter months. I've had to replace the ball joints/control arms due to the ball joints failing. They never put grease zerks on them so there's no way to properly maintain them. Both struts had to be replaced already. The drivers side strut makes a bunch of racket, and the passenger side weld broke where the swaybar link connects to it. The speakers don't work worth a crap. The rear speakers need to be replaced, and I had to cut the speakers out of the housings and reuse the factory housings due to the design of the front door speakers. When I run the air conditioner, which is also going out, the back floor floods with water on the passenger side. That being said, the whole car smells because of it.
A repeat customer came in with their recently purchased boneyard G6 for new tires, front bearings and CV axles. Lss, the end of the axle that goes in the trans was too long on the new one and it popped out of the trans at the customer's place of employment so I had to go out there yesterday with another new one of a different design and it went in real nice, snapped into place and didn't come out again. Some cars are hard to order parts for.
Personal opinion but any dielectric grease on the BCM connector is better than none and even the cheap stuff will last you 4-6 months. But why aren't the front control arms mentioned? It greatly effects how the car drives once the bushings or balljoints fail. If your G6 displays faults for ESC, Traction Control, Cruise Control doesn't work, or your Brake lights don't work properly, then clean your BCM connections and apply dielectric grease and it should all go away.
I came here because my local dirt tracks (2) in a 25 km radius) has started up a new division and vast majority of cars are g6 cars. But can be any v6 sombody is selling one down the road from me so I’m trying to find out what to look for. Thanks for the video 👍👍 Take care
Dielectric grease would NOT help or fix corrosion! It only helps prevent FUTURE corrosion. You must use electronic contact cleaner to clean the corrosion FIRST, and then apply dielectric grease to seal the contacts/plug.
234k on my g6, OG trans and motor. Few minor problems. But this has a very reliable vehicle. It has hydraulic power steering instead of electric. Only thing that has gone wrong is the turn signal, and the hub bearings aside from just general maintenance. Great vehicle and value.
Coworker had one of these and the transmission just gave up on him one day getting on the highway. It was pretty cold that day, but still come on Pontiac.
This is a good video I just recommend describing more about the specific colons to replace for the powersteering and also the sensors other wise some good stuff I'm learning more and more with my g6
Had the turn signal switch assembly problem in every Pontiac I have ever owned (Grand Am, Bonneville and the G6). New assembly can be bought on Amazon for $25, and you can install it in 5 minutes.
I have a 2009 G6, when the car is in park just idling it idles rough and sometimes the RPM drops like it’s going to stall and jumps back to normal (the rough idle is still there) please help😫
Okay awesome. How do I disconnect the BCM Connector. It’s plastic and I don’t want to break it but I cannot get it off out or unplugged. Update got the gray plastic clip loose.
I have one with 200k! So far haven't had any of these issues!! Edit: I actually am experiencing the turn signal problem. But idc I'll just turn it off manually
I've used bulb grease on that connector, and it has to be redone every couple of years. The brake lights will be on constantly and then shut off when you hit the brake.
I cant believe they didnt mention ball joints. Here in NY I replace lower control arms all the time due to loose lower ball joints. Maybe it's from our bad roads?
No, this is a common issue with this model. The balljoints are machined into the lower control arms and it is a common problem with this model because they are made out of aluminum.
I had to do the same with mine. I'm surprised they didn't add grease zerks to the ball joints. I'm sure they'd last a lot longer if they could be properly maintained.
Help??? I keep hearing a knocking noise like something loose..i had the sway bars replaced but that wasn't the problem..i was told it maybe the ball joints..i can't keep wasting money on maybes! 😊
All the issues he described here happened on my 2010 Malibu. Problem is my VIN doesn’t have the recall on the power steering issue. Got quoted $1200 to fix it. Was looking to buy a G6 to replace my Malibu. Not anymore I’m not.
I just bought an 07 with 135k miles on it, i already notice it needs new hub bearings and i already broke the blinker switch😂 Over all the car drives like a dream, its a little bit loud and the trans shifts rough but its a good car.
@@TacoBell5DollarBox PONTIAC is JUNK!!!! Trust me. Maybe talk them down but I wouldn’t regret not buying it. I regret not being able to buy a one owner 2007 HONDA CIVIC with 55k for $3000. I wanted it but it was last June and DMV was closed. Didn’t know how to get it (we have to have notarized bill of sale). It went quick.
Having a problem with a 2009 g6. It won’t start. Not on account of an engine problem but an electric problem it cranks but then shuts off. While trying to start, the anti theft symbol pops up on the dash and when the key is released the car shuts off. My mechanic cleaned the points on the BCM and that worked for a few miles. It can be started again after removing the batter cables from the terminals and then putting them back on. Recently it has had new valve cover gaskets installed and there was an issue with a clogged brake line. And the starter has been replaced. What might be the problem? Thanks for any information.
I have this car and it's like the whole left side is shaking extremely bad at time and sounds like 2 plates banging when I go to brake. What could the issue be
'07 G6 3500, here, with almost 260k miles, and aside from a tranny rebuild, been pretty reliable. I am surprised, however, that melting low-beam connectors are not in this list. I've had to replace mine twice. The second time, I used Dorman high temp sockets, which have a pigtail on the other end. That way, if they melt, I can just unplug and replace them w/out having to solder, but hopefully, the high temp sockets won't have that problem. I'm also surprised that the sunroof drain tube shrinkage problem isn't mentioned. I don't know the percentage of G6's with sunroofs, but it is a well-known issue - to the point that GM made a parts kit to extend them.
2009 pontiac g6 2.4L... My car won't accelerate well. Pushing beyond 40-50 mph and it just decelerates on its own and its bad to the point of surging down to 15-20 mph if I punch the gas. And also when I punch it, the traction control comes on and engine power reduced, warnings come on and the car will shake pretty violently when I come to a stop. I shut my car off for a min and the warnings go away when I crank her back up. And I can go back to my cautious driving... I've had 2 "cam phasers" (VVT) changed out. Fuel pump replaced. Vent valve solenoid replaced by the tank. And taken the cat converter out and cleaned. When the cat converter got cleaned. It seemed like it was semi fixed. The check eng light was out for all of 10 mins so I didn't dare push her too hard. But I could at least get on the freeway again. After 3 or 4 weeks, I just felt a difference in the power, but she was still doing her better performance. I put some cataclean in there. Maybe a day or 2 later and it's back to it's old ways. Can't drive on the freeway at all. Can't accelerate worth a crap. I turn her off and crank her back up every 3 or 4 red lights and she seems to do her normal version of bad, until I go up a hill, and she bogs down and won't allow for acceleration until the hill is behind us.... What else can be changed? What am I missing. Why does she do better with turning off and cranking up? Any suggestions or insight or input is welcome.... Trying not to get have to get another car... And trying my damnedest to keep "Pontisha", that's what I call her, as long as possible. But I'm at my wits end.
my dad owns one too but his is am 06. he had rhe same problems you're telling me about. he went to a mechanic shop to get it diagnosed and they told him it was the transmission that needed to be replaced. but he got different opinions from other mechanics and they told him it wasn't the transmission that it needed a sensor (forgot which kind) but saved himself from buying spending on whole another transmission to spending like $40 bucks on tge sensor at the junk yard.
Mine won't start unless I wiggle the wiring harness right below the BCM connector. Why? Square red one plugged to the fuse box. Will unplugging it and putting that grease stuff you said on it fix it. Or does something need replaced. Already changed battery and starter. Thought that was it but still when it doesn't start I just wiggle and it starts. Milage dissapears when it doesn't start and lights on dash light up. Remote start doesn't work anymore either not sure if it's related or not
The impossible to reach without taking a crap ton of stuff off and good luck finding it if you drop it... shift linkage bushing. POAS bushing thats nearly impossibly to do with just your hands and common tools.
@@bobbyv.634 I’ve owned one for 14 years. Only issue I’ve had that’s on this list is the turn signal. Supposedly it’s a fairly simple fix I’m just not motivated enough to do it
I believe my BCM maybe going, when the vehicle starts sometimes I'll have no power steering and the airbag light will come on and go off intermittently, none of these problems are consistently on.
I have 2007 g6 and i am having problems. Shifting its slow or won't move out the second gear or third. One time i didn't take my feet off the petal and it finally shift to the next gear. Is VVT solenoid my problem? I have headlights problems replace the bulb so many time.
VVT solenoids here, check light comes on and off. Bank 1 code P0011. 3.5 v6 so the intake, belt, and water pump will need to come off to install. Also loud whistling from underneath exhaust when accelerating past 2 rpm’s, hope it’s a simple gasket fix
Hey I have a 2006 g6 gtp. I’m currently getting the door lock and unlock going crazy when I take it out of park. But as soon as it goes back in park they stop going crazy. Then it also won’t shift passed 3rd. Even when I stick it in slapstick to try and shift out of 3rd I get an error on the dash where the gears are displayed. As well as a crazy idle. Also, my cluster gauges move up and down like crazy when driving.
My trunk button and mirror adjustment buttons don't work, is this because of the BCM? 220K miles and still chugging. I have the turn signal and solenoid issue
Electrical issues with the headlights nonstop for 5 or 6 years. One side has new pigtail replaced and still. Wheel bearings have been replaced twice in 3 years in the front.
I hit a deer in November, did not know that the radiator was cracked- and drove all winter with basically no radiator fluid. Noticed it in like May, had it fixed. Still running like nothing happened.
Thanks for the info I’m currently drive the o7 g6, and my main problem is my gas cap and maybe new suspension because little bumps in the road make it rattle quite loud and excessive
Is the steering column sensor issue a replace and wait for it to go out again or is there a more permitted fix for this problem? That sensor was replaced under warranty from Pontiac and it has failed again.
Another big one is the Low Beam Headlight connector terminal corrosion that melts the lamp connector terminal. If you know how to do electrical repairs, then pigtails and dielectric grease from parts stores will only cost about $20. If you take it to a dealership, they will be required to sell you an entire front lamp harness ($$hundreds$$) , because they aren't allowed to modify a safety system. That won't solve the problem either, because it will just fail again.
Paid 1000$ for no rust southern G6 installed some new parts in the front and rear and it’s been the most reliable little commuter car you could ask for.
My turn signal doesn’t shut off when I turn but you didn’t give the solution did you? Can you do a video on the convertible pretty please? Mine worked fine but now I’m getting a “check cargo top” message when I’m trying to get the top down.. Check cargo top where and how?
