I had a 2017 street glide, hated it. Traded for a 2018 road king. It was an improvement but still..... Dealer got me to test drive a 2019 Heritage classic special and i was in love! Why I chose the Heritge? 1. Lighter and faster and more nimble in corners. This is hugely noticeable and immediate. 2. More comfortable and better ride. The heritage with the new frame design rides much more smoothly than either touring bike. 3. I actually find the music and stereo super annoying and turned it off most of the time. I'd rather hear the bike and the wind. 4. About the same carrying capacity but I honestly run without the bags at all and just use a solo swingarm bag. I can put the bags back on in 15 mins or so if I want them. But I can have a stripped down nice looking bike as well and I dont have this option with a bagger. A bagger is a bagger and you can't make it look different. 5. Range is about the same due to MPG differences. I think my heritage gets 20-30 miles less range maybe? Not realy noticeable. Moral? Everyone has their preference and needs. For me, I CAN tour with my heritage and I can also have a stripped down retro looking bike. It's two bikes in one. I can't do that with the bagger so the heritage wins.
Great choice, if a rider does any significant amount of highway miles / travel, a touring bike IS the only way to go! The Heritage is a great bike, but you're going to be waaay happier with the Street Glide. Congratulations!!!
I have a 05 Heritage that I have ridden all around the country (90,000 miles). A couple of years ago, I picked up a 02 Road King Classic & now rarely ride the Heritage. The larger frame & suspension offer more comfort & stablity on the road.
You made the right choice. This SGS could well be the best bike Harley has ever made. I’ve been riding Harleys since 1990. This SGS is my 6th Harley in all these years. It’s just one amazing motorsickle !
Exactly opposite for me. I did the "heavyweights" for 2 years. Indian Springfield and Street Glide Special. I recently switched to a Sport Glide. For me the versatility/handling/suspension/power to weight/comfort are all so much better than the touring models. Harley did an awesome job with the new softail frame and suspension. The touring model line-up leaves a lot to be desired. The MOCO really needs to upgrade the suspension and frame on the touring bikes in the worst way. I will not even consider a new bagger until they do. One rider's opinion. Take care.
So I was looking at the sport glide a little but do you think its a better bike for long distance touring? and if so what upgrades are a must?...thanks, Steve
@@steves3688 For me its a definite yes. The suspension and handling on the new softail chassis is leaps and bounds over Harley touring chassis. I did make some changes for long distance. I tried a couple different seats. I installed floorboards instead of pegs. Also experimented with different solutions for wind management. I've got the Sport Glide dialed in for me now. Love this model. I can sit back and cruise all day with no issues. Plan a multi-day/multi-state trip in June. 100% confident that the ride will be epic. Haven't regretted getting out of the Heavyweights at all. HTH. Take care.
Question, wouldn't you kinda get the same bike with the Softail Slim? I know it doesn't come with bags, passenger pegs and cruise control. But, at $2600 cheaper in price, you can add all of that to the Slim with better seat, too, and comes close to the same $18600 price as the Sport Glide. So... after all of that, which one would be the better bike to select? In regards to handling and looks? I'm torn between this two great machines.
@@vlag3 The Slim is a great choice. I've considered this model on more than 1 occasion. With that said the Sport Glide for me is a better option right out of the box. You've already mentioned the saddlebags and cruise control. Also made reference to seat. I have never owned a motorcycle that I did bot replace the seat on. They all come from the factory with substandard seats in my opinion. Now let's get back to a couple other differences between the 2 models. The Sport Glide is already set up with passenger pegs for 2 up riding. Rear shock pre-load adjuster externally mounted. Mag vs Spoke wheels. Finally inverted front forks. The modularity of the Sport Glide is amazing. 2 Bikes in 1. Depending upon use the Slim is a great choice. For my use the Sport Glide is a much better option. From a cost standpoint, when you take into consideration what is needed to make the Slim as versatile as the Sport Glide, The Sport Glide is a better value. Also for me personally the Sport Glide looks better. Hope this helps.
As someone who owns a Heritage and a Road King I can tell you the Heritage is a fine bike for touring. It has a tour bag option and comes stock with rider floor boards and can be outfitted with passenger floor boards. I have made many trips of several hundred miles o the bike without any discomfort. My main complaint was with the saddlebags size and the inability to use a removeable bag in the saddlebag which is why I bought my Road King. Still love the Heritage for it's light weight and nimbleness which is why I kept it. Ride on.
Should have gotten the Heritage I have the Ultimate seat set up with backrest relocation kit. My heritage has more seat room than the Bagger lighter more nimble bike with the less weight and 114 Klock Werks Billboard Flare windscreen and Kuryakyn MTX Bluetooth sound bar WE GOOD TO GO. LOL Too each is own and you’re on a HD and hitting the wind, that’s all that matters. Stay safe and Rubber Side Down!
Having ridden both, I chose a softail. Sport Glide to be exact. Swap out to a sundowner seat, and you have a ride comfy for you and your pillion...along with great handling. (Inverted front forks) We don't do alot of long distance, so we are both comfy with our rides. Now, if we had a lot of highway rides that might be different. I'm not saying you are wrong. 400+ mile rides are best with a touring chassis. For what we ride, my sport glide is perfect. Comfort for her, with sporty handling for my solo rides
I almost picked a street bob over my road glide special same color as your street glide definitely glad i chose the bagger ive been having the time of my life on this damn bagger
I have a 2014 Firefighter Shrine Streetglide . I have done way to much to this bike to mention. Surffice to say I L O V E this bike ! Black and chrome just about everything HD and Kuryakan extras that they made for this bike . Mine is 103 project Rushmore and is plenty fast. 👍🇺🇸😎
I wish the SGS and RGS came standard with the Ultra seat for better passenger seat comfort out of the box, but I guess they were going for aesthetics on these models without the Tourpack. So for more seat comfort for both my wife and myself I went with the Harley Hammock seat, a Mustang driver backrest, and the Harley passenger backrest. I also got some highway peg mounts and moved the stock passenger pegs to the highway mounts, then I added passenger floorboards. These few things made a night and day difference especially for my wife.
Great bike and good video! Helpful hint is to mention how tall you are and how flat footed you are while riding, since you talk about your comfort, the handle bar position and so on.
excellent choice! I'll pick touring over softail anytime ! softail has a lot of charming and nostalgia looks but I had a sportster 1200 xl and for me was time for a real cruiser. The Street Glide has everything, looks, sporting qualities and most important COMFORT for driver and passenger
I totally agree on all your points but I ride a BMW R1200GS LC and once you have had one it is hard to get used to another bike but I love a Street Glide.
Nice I went from a dyna to an ultra classic the ride and storage alone is worth it ended getting my ultra used dealer here in Jacksonville no good deals every time I said I wanted a lower payment they come back with $100 over what I said next time I’ll try Orlando
Haha, I’ve got the exact same bike as you, same colour and all!!! 👍 I traded my 2015 Fat Bob (also got an awesome trade amount) and not looked back, absolutely in love! I got it for the same reasons you mentioned too, except the radio is not important to me, not on a motorcycle anyways. Maybe for long trips, but at the moment it’s mostly for shorter commutes. It’s my everyday transport, but mostly short rides, so tunes are not up there on the priority list. Anyways great vid, felt compelled to comment cause you ticked all the boxes I pretty much did when I got my new one a couple of months ago 👍
Nice bike and you both look comfy on it. I enjoyed your video and how you compared the features of your Street Glide with others and how those features work with your needs as a motorcyclist. Well done!
I'm aware this is Not directed at me. The Road King has always been on my go to list. I like the styling and the classic looks. Very similar to the Indian Springfield Dark Horse I owned for a bit. Put over 9000 miles on that fine Machine. Rode a Street Glide Special and traded the Springfield in. Put right at 9000 miles on the Street Glide before moving on to the Sport Glide. Haven't looked Back. With all that said HD really needs to upgrade Frame and Suspension on the Touring line-up. Trim the fat a bit. Heavy and cumbersome on slow speed maneuvering. They got it right on the Softails. Now time to upgrade the Touring Models. Take Care.
It's great that you bought a Harley that suits you. I can definitely understand wanting your wife to be comfortable. I can't see myself on a bagger, a scooter or in a minivan, at least not until I'm of retirement age. For all the crap people say about Sportsters- they look better, handle better and feel and look like a motorcycle should. Until my chiropractor says differently, I'll ride a Sportster and maybe a Lowrider S.
Nice video i learned that after my Sportster 1200T i will get either a RoadKing or ROAD GLIDE LIMITED. By the way you could for the same money get the ROAD GLIDE® LIMITED with the touring pack, better front light, your wife or friend could appreciated a lot. However you made a nice choice.
Nice bike bro. I bought my first Harley last year. 2019 Heritage. I like it but am already wanting to get a bagger. Do you see any key differences between the road/street glides? Really love the faring and radio. Also, will the radio volume automatically adjust with speed?
You chose a beautiful SGS. I love the look of it. That's what I want someday. I was wondering did you ever test ride other HD models before buying your Street Glide? I'm 58 yo now and am like you about transitioning to the SG. I'm a new rider so I've got a ways to go before I test ride other bikes. Ride safe.
No, which I told myself I would but I didnt. I knew I liked the look and capabilities of the SG. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I like the Heritage but I'm not a fan of the windshield and the lack of a radio.
If I may Jeff I have a 2014 Streetglide Shrine. The thing is man it's got everything you really need right out the box. I like the faring turning when I turn the bars not like the road glide which is fixed! Having said that the Road glide has more room on it for 6' odd riders , I'm around 5'8. Also the weight of these bikes might be an issue🤔 at slow speeds at approx 900lbs they ain't no light weights If I were you I'd test ride the Street and Road glide and go from there!,👍🇺🇸😎
You made a Great Choice. I DO NOT care for the mirrors...but the rest of the bike..is fantastic.. I tried the Ultra Classic...way to Top Heavy..tour pack is nice but it makes it top heavy and the bike weights 950 lbs by itself...that is just to damn heavy for me...anyway..ride safe..enjoy your new bike...p.s. dealers are out to screw everyone they can..too..agreed on your purchase. I live in Kansas..went to Allen , TX for my bike..saved 3,000.00 Dollars...that is a huge savings too...c ya...
Softail any day over the geezer glide. Almost every point you hit is why softails are better. Floor boards, windshields and radios, might as well buy a car, 6 gals of gas need it since your pulling all that weight. Get big twin torque is a rock solid chassis with a softail. Leave all the garbage in your truck, hit some backroads and lay down some miles.
My thoughts exactly in my humble opinion. It's all personal preference. I never liked the bagger look. I'm a minimalist when it comes to motorcycles. I love my 07 Deluxe!!!! All my friends ride baggers, but not for me. Happy riding!!
@Dustin Beam, Touring bikes have better ground clearance than softail models. Just sayin’ :) So on the twisties, these big touring bikes handle better than softails
I bought the Heritage 2021 in February and 20 days ago (end October) I changed it into the Street Glide 2021. Nothing against the Heritage, it is wonderful. Until you are 1.75 meters tall. Beyond this the position becomes to be less perfect, at least in my opinion. The SG is peefect under this point of view.
I have a 04 FatBoy with hard bags and batwing with a stereo my bike is loaded I love it. Next year I’ll be adding a road glide of course I’ll be keeping my FatBoy
Believe it or not, I went from s1rr to 18 softail 114 and honestly was the best move I’ve ever made. Offered comfort and shut load of power. Not big on long distance rides but not against it
Baggers are the way to go in my opinion. I hate strapping on a backpack to go to the store and I travel a lit with my bike. The only thing I have on my bike for music is one of those portable bluetooth speakers. It's great traveling with them but I need a upgrade.
Even with the Harley Boom speakers and amp, my '17 Street Glide's music (from my iPhone through the USB input) STILL isn't loud enough. At 70, the volume's all the way up. Probably the only way to get it louder is an aftermarket standard radio going to the amp to the speakers, but bypassing the hand controls, as was done on my 2000 Electra Glide.
I am in same boat as you. I am debating between the heritage classic or street glide. But a little afraid of riding the big bike because lack of experience on bike. I had a 2017 wide glide but ride short time. I have own other bikes before. I am thinking to test drive both of them to see what's best for me. I am very fond of the stereo system on the street glide. Thanks for the video
I went from a softail to a street glide and will never look back. All the things you just mentioned being comfort. The windshield is a must for me from now on. No more helmet hanging on by the chinstraps. I used to think the softails looked better but the batwing has grown on me and I think looks bad ass now.
Once u go floorboards.. no going back. I ride a fatboy lo and it’s not great for the missus to ride on. I can rack up the miles on it but after while the touring chassis sounds like a good idea. If the SG/RGs weren’t selling for $23k USED right now I’d go that way. Found a 2019 RK standard with 4K miles on it for $15,800.. that would be great for the missus to ride on and good for me to clock long miles on Great review man.. kinda wish I didn’t see it tho bc now I really am questioning the RK
You like the Street Glide, great! The comparison to the Heritage betrays your knowledge of riding it however. You’re more distracted on the SG, your view of the road isn’t as good and you’re asking the suspension to put up with 200+ additional pounds which doesn’t do much for handling. The rear seat is more comfortable on the Softail Heritage due to the span of the seat and my passenger concurs. Glad you love the SG I do too, but the view of the road is much better on the Heritage and it brakes far better too! 🙂
Thanks for the video. I currently don’t ride but have been wanting to get into the game. Currently researching the differences between the many bikes out there. I feel the way I did before I got into guns. Overwhelming but exciting.
Have the same bike. Thanks for the vid. I’m from Detroit. In savanah ga now. Heading down to Orlando Harley soon to check out the 131. By the way , Willy g has bad ass floorboards /pegs that match that bike perfectly. Thanks
Hi my name is John out of South Texas I'm on my third Harley the last one I trade it was a 2013 breakout love the Softail ride but not enough room for Mama to ride so I went to a Harley Ultra low Limited and it's just the way to go if you're going to do long distance riding a bagger I have no regrets I'm happy and Mama's happy we stretch out sometimes 400 miles at a time with the bike club good luck with the new bike😉😉🏍🏍👍👍
I have 14 streetbob but I'm about to do paperwork on 2020 street glide special. My only problem is I'm afraid I'm gonna miss my street Bob? Do you ever have any doubts about the street glide? I appreciate any help you can give.
I'm going from a 16 street glide to a new heritage. I can't figure out a comfortable riding position. New bars are too wide and pull me forward. If I tip them down it kills my wrists to hit the blinker. Rode my dads 04 fatboy with apes and a back rest and it was perfect. I will say it was a little rougher ride and the seat left something to be desired but the comfort of the position made all the difference to me.
You put this video out last June, have you still got the bike? Got my 18 SGS last April and still ride her every chance I get. Changed the factory shocks for the 13" Revo A's, it's like a whole new ride now! should have done that sooner..
Hey, great bike! I went with the RGS over the Street, but they are both amazing bikes. Best bike I ever rode distance with, by far. Best bike to go two up on, by far. I'm currently in the market again and thinking about the Heritage Classic 114 softail for the simple reasons of lightness (the glides are heavy) and the fact that 90% of the time, it's just me on there.
@@wrongthinker350 Oh no kidding. In the RGS, I was literally two fingers on the bars on cruise control, 8-mph in the wind, music on and could hear it great with the Klock Werks fairing. The Heritage is very different, feels much lighter and is more nimble. I miss that big fairing in the wind, though.
@@wrongthinker350 And having my wife on back was way, way better on the RGS...but again: I got that bike thinking we'd tour. Not so fast,..it ain't her bag.
I went from VTX1300C honda with a fairing but no bags, to an electra glide ultra classic. Wouldn't trade it go for nothing. The riding position comfort, wind protection and saddlebag carrying ability won me over.
That is a wonderful bike, bro! I have a 2019 Heritage with the 114, and i absolutely love it, but I do see a SGS in my future. Thanks for the video. 🤘👽
Hegshot Rides interesting! Can you tell me more? I love so many things about the SGS, but I also love the 114 in my nimble Heritage-with the stage II torque cam, it’s a beast! Wish the tank was bigger-haha!
Believe Me Smart Choice the is the biggest teal windshield looks good just does not keep wind off you I have to speak Glide download went to Road Glide fairing is Mega Plus
So if you buy really good 2nd-hand you can have both....! Because sometimes there is nothing like being on a Softail & other times its way better to be on a Street Glide & really HD do not improve that drastically year on year that you have to have the latest greatest thing....works for me (& probably you...!)
Harley-Davidson has painted itself into a corner with the low seat, forward control seating position. With a few exceptions, the touring bikes are the only ones in the lineup that afford a reasonably upright seating position. Having most of your weight on the seat is not a good thing.
Had Voyager with radio, wife couldn't hear it, unless you put speakers for her on there she probably won't be able to hear it........but voyager radio sucked, it was set up to add other things to it...........Sold voyager bought C90T for wife to ride on(she doesn't like Wide Glide seat, backrest, footpegs) first thing had to buy for C90 was backrest luggage rack($700 searching internet for best prices, otherwise $1000 MSRP)........I haven't taken it on any trips but I found I don't really care if I have music on the bike.......and wife doesn't like me bike dancing with the music edit: mirrors look like you'll do a lot of looking at your arms. Since you were on an iron you wouldn't get this......I take the wide glide hitting the curves, with the forward control pegs I let my heels hang so that they scrape the road before my pegs, when my heal scrapes then I've leaned far enough.....can't do that with floorboards Bad thing with floorboards on Harleys now is that you have to pay extra to get the heel shifter. I also bought M90, and I'm already thinking about trading it in for a soft tail standard.
I never liked Cadillac's, i test road a road glide with the same engine as my softail it just felt Heavy, Clumsy, Slow, I found myself hitting hitting fuel cut, BUT it was very stable..Its the Caddy of the harley world. THink if i upgraded one day Id get a Road king Mayve depend if it road like a caddy lol...
If you want to listen to music go to a sports bar as I found it to be extremely distracting and nothing like hearing the sites and sounds of your surroundings and I am an old school Harley rider for 4 decades
Id rather buy a convertible. I ride to feel like im flying through the wind. Anything with a fairing takes that away. Get yourself a softail when ur not with the wife. :)
Watching this now. I got an Ultra Limited and its the only way to go on the highway. Who the hell wants a bike without tunes!? What a boring ride long distance. Want a bar hopper? Get the softail. ANYTIME you are on the highway there is simply no other choices than a RG, SG or UC. Period.
Those are terrible reasons. First point...passenger comfort lol🤣🤣🤣....and then he mentions the foot pegs on the street glide? Wtf, you know you can change those right? LMAO
