Leaving politics back home is a great habit to practice!

I was born in and lived in the USA for 45 years. I went to Mexico in 2006 to learn Spanish. I figured I'd spend a total of 6 months there. Except for a few visits back to the USA, I've been living here ever since 2006 - almost 18 years now. Last time I went to the USA was in 2012. I have absolutely no desire to return to the USA. The thought of going back is actually scary.

I love Mexico. As a Canadian with a 4 year temporary residency, who just got her RFC#, I'm ready to build my home and business. Just waiting to sign the deed. Got a well respected builder in the area. Love the fresh food! Love the community vibe here. Restarting my life. Best decision I ever made.

I definitely eat better, walk more, glad to never discuss politics, have lost weight, continue to learn and perfect my Spanish, and have a Mexican partner. That and I can afford to pay people to work on my home, which I could not afford to do in the US, and obviously as I age doing it all myself will be impossible.

The biggest change with me when I’m there is all the body pain seems to go away. It’s unbelievable. Back in the US doctors can’t explain it.

One thing I would like to add to the politics topic is that no one is mentioning the fact that in the event of war Mexico maintains neutrality. Being that there is a lot of political unrest in the world today, Mexico is a pretty safe haven for those who are suffering from political anxiety.

We relocated to Morelia, Michoacan, almost three years ago. I'm from Reno, Nevada and my wife is a Mexican citizen. Living here, has been a wonderful experience. The people, culture, architecture, the food, and the lack of stress are ALL reasons to come to Mexico. The US has become unbearable. Good video!

I did not move here for political reasons and have zero patience with people who dragged those issues and their anger down here with them. And I would add that the Mexican people for the most part do not want to hear about it either. They will be polite but they don’t care. Leave your issues at the border, is what I find myself saying. It must take so much energy hanging onto that anger

I moved two years ago, all what you’ve said, but also I learn something new everyday, also meet new people as well. It’s a breath of fresh air there. Totally agree. One of the most disturbing things I see in Canada these days is immigrants demonstrating their old-world problems, animosity and hatred on our streets and in our universities. When I'm in Mexico as an immigrant, I have to check myself that I don't bring my issues out in public. It can be a bad habit, which is another issue you addressed in your excellent 5-point chat. Here I am watching your video, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as I am getting ready to head south down to Guanajuato, in the central highlands of Mexico for the winter. Personally, I prefer the higher elevations in Mexico and not the beach towns, for the main reason that there are too many mosquitoes on the beach, and I would get eaten alive. Guanajuato, where I usually stay, is very high in elevationn, and has very few mosquitoes, even in the summer. Regarding your five reasons - and maybe a few of my own - everyone is different, and has to manage their lives differently, and there is no one size that fits all. For me, for example, I have chronic digestive and intestinal issues that don't have me doing that well with a lot of the Mexican food - can't eat chiles, greasy fried food, too much meat, all of which Mexico has in abundance. My gut biome is very weak, so I really need to watch sanitation and food cleanliness, and I have to take several months' supply of mega high potency probiotics, much higher dosage than is available in Mexico, with me each time I go. But the Mexican herbs keep me going, and I have found a miraculous herb for inflammatory / autoimmune bowel disease, which I have: CHAPPARO AMARGO! It has helped me tremendously, and even increased my tolerance of various foods. I would heartily recommend it to anyone suffering from colitis, Crohn's disease, food allergies and intolerances, or irritable bowel. There are also a lot of great local herbs for managing blood sugar and type two diabetes, which is another health concern of mine. And yeah - healthcare really sucks in the US - all the bureaucracy and red tape really sucks, but in Mexico, you can walk into a Farmacia, many of which have doctors consulting there, like Farmacias Similares, and the doctor can order an A1C test or any other health test you need, all for a nominal fee, and it's sooo convenient! Of all your five reasons, the one that resonated the most with me was starting new habits. And perhaps the number one habit that you need to break, especially if you're coming from the US, is the habit of plopping in a car - time to get out and walk! Guanajuato, with all its steep hills and alleyways, gives me a great workout, and the exercise factor alone seems to have a very beneficial effect in lowering my blood sugar. So try to get yourself into a situation where you're not driving everywhere, OK?

Nice video! I recently chose Isla Aguada is the State of Campeche. It’s a “Pueblo Magico” as well. I Chose here for the pristine white sand beach, being able to live on the actual beach has been a dream of mine since I was just a kid. To make it a reality now still has me in tears. It’s still a close 3 hour car drive to Merida (soon 1hr & 1/2 train ride) with the Tren Maya (Mayan Train) that opens December 15th. Entire train route Completely finishes by early February. I’m 47 yrs, I find it fascinating to be able to hope on the train and will be able to travel to Chiapas, Tabasco, Cancun, Tulum, Merida and Bacalar to name some in just a quick 1 to few hours whenever I’d like to visit all those amazing places. agree 100% with suggestions; give up on political talk, walk everywhere except when purchases too heavy, learn a word a day --- read the newspaper to improve language, make things even if not selling, so much more.

I love Mexican women, Mexican food and the overall ambiance. I work in Baja California every other month or so for a week at a time. I would have no problem living there.

I live and work in the United States. But when I'm in México I feel relieved. I think is funny when people ask me if it's safe. For cheese sake. We have continuous and random mass shootings in the United States where mostly just regular civilians are targeted. Yes, people in Mexico are great.

Nice video. My girlfriend lives in Veracruz. Her goal is to move to Usa. She loved it when she was in Usa for several months after covid and she always felt safe. Its funny that many USA citizens living in Mexico feel its safer there than in Usa. On the other hand many Mexicans living in Usa will say they feel safer in USA than in Mexico.

I completely understand and agree with the political environment reason to leave America. It is depressing and frustrating. I have stopped talking to many people over this specific subject. I wish people would shut up and keep their political opinions to themselves. Thank you for the video. Been here since 1992; can't get used to the smell of dog's excrement that suffocate all urban cities of Mexico. Though, I am much better at not stepping on them now; the first few years were tough.

#1 is my #1 reason for being here! and I wouldnt say nobody is talking about it... maybe less people are talking about it right now than when we were in the middle of covid. in 2022 I was staying in Ajijic at an Air BNB that had people from the US, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Poland all staying there for the same reason and that was to escape the covid tyranny in our home countries. and we all talked about it a lot including with our Mexican hosts. unfortunately I have to fly back to Canada in a week to renew my passport. I hope I can get it done quickly and get the hell out of there before they bring in any new insanity. anyways, the level of freedom here is incredible. the police seem genuinely interested in doing their jobs... going after real crime and leaving average citizens alone to get on with their lives. none of the BS hassling people for jay walking that you can run into back in the US and Canada. ( just as one example)

I agree with all of these reasons but as a grain farmer in Canada I need to let everyone know that GMO’s are a non issue, the science has proved it without fail.

I lived in Bucerias for 20 years. things the author missed. An incredible explosion of condos, essentially all the original building are a tear down, by the beach,what was a local restaurant is now a waffle house or a condo, Mark's comes to mind. If you go to happy hours with Canadian or Americans present, politic will come up, there are Trumpers everywhere and they can't resist going full tilt. Pick pockets and people on motor bike will try stealing your bags as you walk on a side walk, be careful in grocery stores, lots of theft schemes there. Dental care is affordable, but what you thought was a dentist is really a student in training. If you live across the highway, which is rare for foreigners, the whole picture changes and your really living in Mexico. Charming , friendly and authentic Mexico, but you need some language skills. We moved because of over crowding and crime, which has many different faces. Real estate. 8% broker fees highest in the world. Sales people are unlicensed, anybody can sell real estate , beware!

Interesting about the food. I recently read that 75% of Mexicans are ether obese or overweight. It also is one of the top countries for childhood obesity. What's that about?

I think you do not understand how Mexicans express their politics. It is not that they are uninterested in politics. It's that they leave them out of personal conversations unless you bring them up. But many Mexicans are very passionate about politics. There are many reasons why they are not so public at all times about expressing their politics. One is that especially in the past and still in many parts of the country speaking up against certain parties, political tendencies or corrupt politicians and oligarchs could get you "disappeared." or tortured.

I guess the primary concern with living in Mexico is going to be crime. I know some places like the Yucatan are pretty safe. But if you are a foreigner, you're alone and it shows. You have a target on your back. It's worse if you are an elderly retiree. t's not just Mexico, but all over the world. But the crime stats for Mexico are not good. I guess it depends on the town.

4 & 5 do not apply to me, but I totally agree with the first three. I might throw religion in with number 1. I’m from the South, so I am accustomed to people asking me if I’m “saved” 🤮. This has happed in Mexico City only once in 12 years, and the culprit was another expat.

I was born in Mexico in 1953 to America parents. We moved back to the US when I was 3. My US passport states I was born in Mexico. QUESTION: Why am I only allowed 90-days in Mexico when I enter? I tried to obtain a Mexican passport, but the local Mexican Consulate rejected me, as my parents dropped the second last name on all my US documents. 😟 Why is Mexico making it hard for me to move to Mexico?

I lived in Mexico for the better part of twenty years close to Buserias. You say many people told you the food is less GMO and more natural in Mexico. ‘Many people’ is where you base your statement,, which means this statement is completely baseless. There is excelent fresh and natural seafood,, but the regulations on poisons are way slacker then in the states,, the amount of pesticides and chemicals in general is incredible. You can pick up a tomato in the market and litterally shake liquid pesticide drops off it that were just sprayed on it in the store. I love Mexico,, my advise is do not start a business,, appreciate and love Mexico for many reasons but don’t try to make money in a country where people are poor and you are seen as rich. Mexicans are super street smart,, corruption is systemic. Be generous and learn the language.

I've read many a story, which I believe by the way, of Americans buying houses down there and if a group like a drug cartel or any other gang decides they want your house it becomes a horror story. Many times the federallies won't help at all because they're stretched too thin or they're scared themselves etc. If you don't take the hint and leave bizzarre things start happening like gun shots in the night, vandalism and on and on. Yes, you will find many a person whose never been touched. It's a big country also.

As an American, the only political tensions that I see in my everyday life is when I watch TV, especially the news. Other than that, it normally never comes up unless you bring it up and want to argue with your neighbors and co workers about it.
