Keep in mind when SHTF theres a good chance that you will likely be at work or out doing errands or something where youre not at home....your carry gun should be treated as your initial SHTF gun. Thats why i suck it up and CC a full size M9A4 with a Surefire X300U and two spare mags.
Just a quick comment on the grappling with a semiautomatic handgun, if you run a duty sized light like a tlr1 or x300 on a small enough handgun where the light extends past the muzzle it works well as a standoff device and can get you out of that situation if necessary. Hope everyone who reads this has a nice day
@@PeterReid1993 definitely a case by case thing but personally I love my tlr1 hl works well and is bright enough to make the threat want to cover their eyes
It’s Glock. The answer is Glock. And I’m saying this as a M&P person. In the US, any gen will be good but outside the US, gen 3 Glocks are the best SHTF gun.
I think Clint hit the mark in the first few seconds. The best pistol would be the one right next to you. Not ideal, not preferred, but the best until you get to your setup.
Definitely a less popular take anymore, but any of the metal framed p-series Sig handguns would be great options, i.e. the p220, p225, p226, p227, p228, or p229. Not as popular anymore, not as much aftermarket support, but nearly unmatched durability and reliability.
While I own 4x p226's and 1 p229 and a p2022 in 357 sig. Glocks / MP 2.0 and my p10f have been fantastic so far. Thousands upon thousands on all of them except the MP and p10f. Nearing 2k tho. Polymer frame will be my go to tho. Weight matters. 😂 Watch the gauntlet tests people do. Tight tolerances sometimes lead to jams. Any gun well kept/ maintained will be your best friend in your time of need.
It all depends on the particular SHTF scenario, but in a situation where it looks like things are really going downhill and may never recover, a .22 pistol can come in handy. You can lug around a lot of ammo, it can be used for hunting small game, and in a pinch, can be used for self defense.
I got a heritage rough rider from bass pro shops , for $150 and it can with a cylinder for .22magnum and .22lr. I carry it in my suit case as a back up piece or for snakes or rats
I'd agree with all that, but a full power handgun cartridge like a 9mm is capable of killing deer sized animals if need be and neutralizing man sized problems as well. With a suppressor it wouldn't attract much notice especially using SS ammo. 9mm brass could be reloaded feasibly if components were sourced...rimfire is a single use round.
@@2dclxvi I agree, but my whole point was in a situation where reloading components might not be available and you were forced to get by on what you can carry by yourself in a backpack. I have a lightweight Browning Buckmark with a 7.5" barrel that can hit targets a surprising distance away. A gun like that is what I had in mind.
I remember looking for a glock 23 when I first went out to buy a carry gun but then I noticed that where I live 40 S&W ammo isn't very common, so while I prefer that ammo, I essentially went with a glock 19 due to 9mm ammo availability.
I think another honorable mention with the Beretta M9/92a1 would be the CZ 75. I own both the Beretta 92a1 and CZ-75 both are classics, reliable, and proven handguns in the firearms industry. I would take a Beretta or CZ before a Glock. Nothing wrong with Glock I just prefer the performance and feel of Beretta and CZ.
@@dancruze P-01 is an alloy frame it only weighs 28 ounces where the glock is only like 3 ounces less. Having said that...I've also considered something like a 5.7x28 pistol because you can carry like 3 ish times as much ammo for the same weight.
You hit the message and did the whole video on the intro…use the gun you have. What you have on hand is what you will use…practice with it and become as best you can with it and it will serve you just fine regardless of what gun it is, just have SOMETHING
If I had the time to get ready: 1st is FNX 45, 2nd is M9A4,3rd is GP 100. If emergency defense my CC is max 9 with extra mag for cover fire to get out of the situation.
@@umoramayori True, that's why the only revolver I own is a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum (Mainly cause it looks awesome and is really fun to shoot, but I also carry it when I go hiking just incase of bears). Beefiest revolver made for .44 magnum and can handle the absolute hottest loads possible unlike S&W. Single action only for added simplicity and less potential for timing issues.
What about always keeping a revolver loaded for YEARS without stressing mag springs? What’s the longest time you can leave a 15 round mag (weight & tension considerations) inside a semi-automatic?
@@OldSchool4U this is a common myth, there have been mags loaded since world war 2 that have functioned perfectly. there was even a test done on youtube in the past year where he kept multiple AR mags loaded for 7 years and they all worked just fine
i have both the M&P 4" compact optics ready and G19mos gen 5. would probably grab both ! LE uses Glock alot and if SHTF one could use mags from shared or fallen.
@@oscarcortez5863 well If I could only buy one I would get the M&P 4" compact. As reliable, better sights, better optic mounting system, and far superior trigger. Easier to take down too with the lever vs 2 tiny tabs . Plus IMO more comfortable grip.
SHTF for me is another hurricane like Hugo or Katrina. I live in Charleston SC. Also, I agree with the Glock 19. Probably the most common handgun out there. I would have gone with the 17, but your mag point has changed my mind entirely.
I bought a Gen5 G17MOS because my LGS said there were more parts for the 17 but I wish I would have gotten the 19 because it will fit more magazines, especially now that there are the 47 & 49 models that run 19 parts. If the M18 I bought doesn’t sell I might pick it up to have the big 3 of LE sidearms.
The rate at which P365s are selling it’ll probably be on the list at some point too. As much as I dig 1911s I would probably move a USP, Sig 226, or Beretta in that slot, maybe a Ruger mark IV just for .22 use
The one you perform best with makes sense to me, my P320 X Carry rxp 9 mm is my choice (with the Wilson grip module). I’m very comfortable operating it, and it has high capacity.
@@dancruze you are a lifeless troll that left same comment in every thread of this video. Get a life. If you unable to carry extra 10oz you have your priorities mixed up. Maybe go outside and walk once in a while. Eventually your wimp body might be able to carry 10oz of weight.
I agree with your list, except… You need to swap 2 and 4. I think the P320, despite all the controversy is more prevalent at in the world that the S&W. A revolver is always a good thing to have and No.3 is a good place for it. I 100% concur with a G19 in the No. 1. It is one of the most common guns in the word. It will work and as you pointed out mags and parts are super prolific every where. I am a super P320 fan man, but strongly believe everyone should have one or two Glocks in the house. Whenever I’m asked what gun I recommend for a new gun owner, I recommend a G19. Every new gun owner should start with a Glock.
If ammo supply is critical, and it could be, then suggest any or all of these for commonality and exchange: 22LR, 5.56mm, 9mm, and/or 12 Gauge. Then pick good guns to suite your taste or preferences.
For SHTF I'm taking: 1- Glock 19 or compatible clone. I picked the 19 over the 17 because of magazine compatibility. 2- Sig P226/229 3- Beretta 92 4- Sig P365 5- Any other reliable semiautomatic pistol chambered in a common cartridge
Any Staccato would beat this list imo! 1911’s have capacity issues…2011’s do not! 1911/2011 triggers are better than most anything. Plastic guns are just that…throw in some metal and hear the angels sing!
My Staccato C2 is my favorite pistol, period. That being said, it comes in about 4th on my SHTF list because if I ended up in a situation where I couldn't keep it fairly clean and lubed, it would start having issues. That would have to be an extreme SHTF condition though.
Mine is a Gen 3 G19. Any banger in the hood will most likely have one. Most folks in the 90’s bought one as their first pistol. Law enforcement still primarily carries G19 and G17 in the county I’m in. So, 9mm and mags will all be readily available.
Best gun for SHTF general use would be a 357 revolver. can shoot multiple types of ammo, and it handles reloaded ammo perfectly. Moon clips allow for easy reload. And you can find 357 magnum ammo in nearly every farm in the U.S.
I'll always pick Glock because its lightweight and you can find parts for it literally anywhere and they are super modular/easy to work on. Glock's greatest flaw is their greatest strength, all their guns are the same so you can mix and match parts with almost any other Glock or even other pistols that are Glock adjacent.
When SHTF then I doubt there will be gun stores operating/ selling parts and stuff. These will be the firts places that will be overrun in a SHTF situation...
Glock 19. Simply for the fact that its the most common pistol in the country and that comes in handy if you're ever in a situation where you need to scavenge for mags or spare parts.
@@lucashebbe3335a glock 22 or glock 19 are probably the most common guns you’ll find. most cops use 9mm now but a lot still use 40. if you want 40, a good idea would be a 357 sig glock with a replacement.40 barrel so you could run multiple kinds of ammo. ik virginia HP runs 357 sig and so do some other agencies
@@lucashebbe3335 I like the Glock 35. I have one in a go bag with Lone Wolf .357 sing and 9 mm conversion barrels plus glock 17 magazines for the 9 mm. This gives me the options for different ammo in TEOTWAWKI!
My top 5 SHTF pistols. #1). Zastava ZPAP M92 AK-47 pistol. #2). Glock 40 10mm. #3). Glock 20 10mm. #4) Galil Ace 308 Pistol. #5) Glock 34 9mm. Wild card is a tie between the Smith and Wesson 2.0 compact 9mm and the Beretta px4 storm subcompact 9mm with 20 round mag.
assuming the US -- 357 revolver, glock 19, s&w m&p, 1911. after that it's a bit of a toss up, i guess maybe a cz 75 of some type? edit: lol hadn't even watched the video yet. yeah, those are an obvious 4. dont think i'd put the 320 as a top 5, would def lean toward cz or a different sig (365 maybe?).
I concur with most of this list. Im a big time glock fanboy, but i prefer the 27/26 (i have the 27 and a 9mm barrel for more options) and i have a gen 4 19. I also agree with a small revolver. I choose an lcr 357 (again, the modularity of 357/38). I agree the rest of the list are all great choices. Just have to be sure you carry some kind of trauma “kit”, just in case.
My choices are similar, but I have a P226 on mine. But you're right about the need to be able to resupply with what is common with law enforcement and/or the military.
For me 5: a 1911, for parts availability and a lot of 45 acp rounds around, 4: SA xdm elite 5.25 (22 round capacity) 3: Sig M17, the army uses the m17 and the marines use the m18, can use their magazines. 2: my Glock 19, as stated in the video, 1: SA Hellcat Pro. Simply because this is my EDC and will most likely be carrying it.
I personally feel like Glock is overrated mostly because of the mushy trigger. I know there are several triggers available, but I'm not always going to have money for a trigger. Whereas with my Springfield, the trigger feels perfect for me, and it's the stock trigger. That's my opinion. I would prefer to have a decent stock trigger than a mushy one
Clint, I bet if you ran this a bit longer, you could have done several more press checks? 🤣 Is there a reason for the reflexive press check that I am missing?
Well since you brought it up at the end of this video! why not do some content on "shtf or battlefield trauma First Aid techniques"! Give us some first aid tips and ideas!
@@millercmdn6805 I think the Glock 19 is the best choice. Then you can use the 19 and 17 mags. Or the 20 and 30 round extended mags. Glock mags are everywhere.
All great options. Some people get way too wrapped up in looting the battlefield for parts and mags like some video game, and then base their gun choices on that. Just keep a basic kit with spare parts and a couple extra mags on hand.
I like having a revolver on the list. I have a S&W Model 36 .38 Special that is a great back up. Also have a Ruger GP100 4” stainless .357 Magnum. For now my SHTF pistol is my FN FNX-45 Tactical. My EDC is usually the P365. Another good SHTF pistol would be my S&W M&P M2.0 10mm 4.6”. Other than that, maybe my H&K VP9. One I wish I had is a Sig P226 X5 Legion. I have too many polymer frames, lol. My Belgian Browning HiPower would be another SHTF option. 1911 is on my bucket list. For now, my SAO .45 ACP is a Sig P220 Carry SAS SAO. It is only a single stack mag though.
My SHTF and main home defense pistol is a Walther PPQ with night sights and a streamlight. I have more training and practice with it than anything else.
I think for a revolver , I think 357 is likely the best option . 2 separate rounds that you can loot and or find , one has a lot less recoil and can make it more versatile.
I love how in some videos (not as much this channel) on RU-vid they say the Glock is overrated or that all these other companies have surpassed them and knock them out the top 5 guns etc...but when it's shtf or most reliable or etc the Glock is always top 3 😂
i thought the same thing until i carried one around for weeeks lol Hiking long distances on foot suck with it. I mean she won't quit but if she ever does you're SOL for replacement parts and definitely don't lose the mags......have to carry extra 0-rings at the least lol
I have a gen 5 g17 with a norsso slide, but all OEM internals. 1000 rds so far with no malfunctions. I'm going to put another 1000 before I call it my SHTF pistol. In the meantime I have the fully stock (except sights) g17 for that.
get a TTI Combat Master job done on your G17, you won't regret it, for the money, it does everthing you'd do. Trijicon HD nightsights, Agency Arms slide, Strike Industries magwell, Timney trigger, etc.
I run a Glock 19 MOS, holosun 407c, tlr-7, and suppressor height lower 1/3rd eights. I’d prefer a 17, but the 19 gives better mag compatibility. Maybe I’ll get a 17 length slide soon with a higher end red dot
Watch the movie 'In Bruges' you see Colin Farrell take a .38 pistol loaded with blanks to blind a man in the eye at point blank range(the gun was used as a prop to rob him) the more you know.
I've never seen it. But, have you read "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross ? There is a scene in the book where he describes this almost exact thing taking place between a Warsaw Ghetto Jew shooting a Nazi soldier in the stomach with a revolver in eerie detail.
For your Revolver consideration a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 mag with the 9 mm conversion cylinder. Or the Blackhawk in .45 L Colt with a .45 acp conversion cylinder Beretta 92 for 'Die Hard' Fans!
I like 1911's, I really don't have an issue running a 1911 in an SHTF scenario. Maybe not my number 1 choice but I would probably throw it on my list. A .38Spl revolver wouldn't really be on my list, a .357Mag isn't on my list either but would be closer to being on my list over just a .38Spl. I don't know if they know how revolvers work but I can stop a revolver just as easy as a semi automatic pistol. Grab the cylinder and the cylinder can't rotate.... Or revolve..... the cylinder has to rotate for the double action hammer to work to make the hammer strike the firing pin or the primer. The second way to stop a revolver is to wrap either your thumb or pinky around the back of the hammer and again keep it from coming back and striking the firing pin or primer. The last way to stop a revolver is if the hammer's already cocked back, is to put something like a finger or thumb in front of the hammer to prevent the hammer from going forward. The same goes for a hammer fired semi automatic pistol, one you prevent the hammer from coming back, it can't drop and hit the firing pin to fire the gun, or if it's cocked, put a finger or thumb in front of the hammer to prevent it from hitting the firing pin. With that being said, Clint Smith is the man. But I would say that mybgo to would most likely be a Glock 19.
