I cannot stress how much I appreciate a well crafted, visually pleasing and most of all TO THE POINT tutorial. You had something to say and said it in 4min. it's great.
I've been critical of some of the prior content, but this was a really solid video. Well explained, to the point, and the on-screen control overlay acts as a great gap filler to help the verbal explanations on how you're doing something be more clearly understood. Nice work.
Got to your channel from a tomato podcast . Gg glad i found u. There u talked about the spacial awareness and to judge distance. Spot on with the struggle there . In theory i understand but in the field its sumthing else
Great tips. I tell people to get good at flying first and the best way to do that is to practice in Arena Commander. I have 2 suggestions that I've done: 1. Separate circle strafe to circle strafe horizontally & vertically: You want to understand how each behaves. A vertical circle strafe is going around a loop going up and down always trying to keep close contact with the station. I learned to do this well on Port Olisar's rings. 2. Landings & Combat landings. In AC you can use the pads. Landing is trying to do a gentle cinematic landing, but combat landing is landing as quick as possible, coming to a complete stop and then taking off. Not exactly needed for combat but deploying people quickly is a valuable to learn.
I not good at combat and am using buggy sticks but watching your vid make me have that sc itch to come back and give it a go. Keep it up man, enjoying how you break things down.
Just got into Star citizen and didn't think twice about subbing. Love how you structure your videos and give us the real info we need that nobody else seems to be talking about.
These, are great. I think I've watched your tutorial video series twice now. Been practicing just like you said. I have the shittiest flight sticks ever (Logitech 3D pro, MS FF2), but the fundamentals are there. I went from not even being able to approach a target, to being able to consistently do up/down left/right strafing while staying on target. It was such a good feeling when it finally clicked. Now to move on to more advanced maneuvers to practice. Thanks so much for these videos.
Excellent video, thank you for this. Admittedly I can't help but wish for a training squadron in the EU time zone to aid in bringing combat skills up to scratch. Keep up the excellent content.
I've been slowly egging my coworkers into star citizen, but in the meantime i've both kept myself from the full dive into the game, and practicing flying, and setting up my gaming setup. I am ready... just waiting for a few in game things to be finished like the mapping system, and the new AR based UI so you can see your targets better. (screen so big, i get motion sickness when the lights are out, like VR)
Thanks for the update, I’ll definitely be using these practice techniques. The biggest thing I struggle with RN is merging and staying on a target, especially if they can’t control their own speed and won’t stop jousting. Staying anywhere near them seems practically impossible for some reason and I don’t know if that’s a me issue or a flight model issue or a bit of both. Probably the latter
Keep merging speed at 200 and you wont have any issues. Sometimes you have to just reverse as they approach if you find that they are at like 300 and accelerating.
You can anticipate the direction they're flying to, turn to that direction in anticipation and fly there. They will slow down thinking they've jousted again but SURPRISE! You'll be staring at them at 200m or less if you perfect it. It can be a ton of fun to get right. Good luck with your training.
@@sttosin yea I’ve been trying to practice this whenever I get the chance, I can imagine it’s super satisfying when you nail the timing. Thanks for the tip
Thanks, simple and effective. One of the hards thing for me: speed control: i often overshoot my target or can not keep the perfect distance. maybe my left stick for throttle need to be way more sensitive for speed control i think (vkb gladiator)
@@JohnathanWinters yeah, im also a littel bit confused, also english is no my first lang. i will hop on discord later and provide some screenshots with the qeustion in detail, if this is ok...
I have a request to any and all viewers of this video: Please Please Please upload your time doing these exercises! Mistakes and foibles and all! Thank you!
Awesome video as always, thank you again for the great content! Are your stick bindings listed somewhere? Looks like you have roll bound to the Z-axis on the left stick?
Hey I can’t find this question anywhere but how do I get that input overlay? Thank you so much for providing these vids. Always wanted to do combat but I haven’t been sure of where to start.
@Johnathan Winters... can you explain your controls. It looks like RH - Pitch=Y-axis Yaw=X-axis LH - Strafe Up/Down - Y-axis Strafe Left/Right=X-axis and Pedals Left Pedal Reverse Thrust? and Right Pedal=Forward Thrust?
@@JohnathanWinters TYVM my man! If imitation/emulation is a sign of praise and recognition then Im definitely going to attempt to copy your control settings. Stay awesome and keep posting! Digging your vids. They are helping this noob learn a thing or two.
Hi Johnathan! I have a question about the circle strafe drill. As I see on your inputs you hardly strafe right and up while you roll. Everytime I perform this drill I pretty quickly get a blackout because of the upstrafe. Any advice what I am doing wrong?
Not the person you're looking for, but prolonged max upstrafe will quickly cause a blackout especially if you're using keyboard which only offers max input. The quickest way to counter is to momentarily apply the down strafe instead
I must ask. How do you feel about slowing combat speeds down? I feel like the biggest argument for it is "well it will stop jousting." I have played several titles that involve dog fighting. Mainly WW2. Even at "slower" speeds pilots that don't have a grasp of what their plane can do, still end up jousting. Come in full speed, merge, pass, try to turn, and repeat. To me it always seems those that can control their craft will always win against somone trying to do this.
Too bad my 325a can't dance. The acceleration is too slow. Meh! It's fast but doing long runs at a target gives their shields time to recharge. If missiles worked good, it could maybe make a difference, breaking their shields just before a run but they're often able to disrupt my cross-section missiles with a full lock. PVP? Forget it. My only chance would be to arm all ballistic and ain't nobody got time for that. I need a new ship.
i have a question regarding the joystick configuration about turning the ship. Do you only use strafe when you do that? I'm currently using a Hotas which has only 1 stick and one throttle handle. Shall i set my Joystick when i move it left/right on strafing or leave it at default? I'm only asking because strafing with the Slider and two buttons (on my throttle handle) is kinda confusing atm
