I absolutely love your fabric and pattern picks. I know that all women have confidence issues, me included, but I hope you know Haley, that your loving personality, your great teaching abilities and your wonderful heart make you such a beautiful person but you are also a very beautiful lady. Just wanted you to know, I love your videos and your humor and how you can just go with the flow even when the electricity goes out!! Lol...looking forward to your next video. ❤❤

I wish I could make a top or dress with larger buttons and pretty functional pockets. I used to sew for my children. Days long gone. Now I long for function, comfort and ease of use. Thanks for sharing.

I’m not sure if the Shay dress has pockets but would be very easy to add in seam pockets to the skirt and go wild with the buttons down the front!! Pigeon Wishes, and Ethel and Joan are my go to’s for gorgeous buttons

My mom always lined the tops of dresses or tops she sewed for me instead of using the facing. If the fabrics needed me to wear a slip, she just lined it with slip fabric. If the fabric was not see thru, she would use the same fabric, but just would just line to under the bust. I have seen a few videos on sewing with the lining so you have a more finished look around the neck and arms.

Hello Hayley, great patterns here, thank you for sharing this with us. To help with topstitching use an edge foot. Karina @LiftingPinsandNeedles uses this method and it’s perfect every time because you’re using the edge foot as a guide which helps keep the stitching distance even. Sending best wishes from Down Under 💖🥰🌸🌺🇦🇺😎

Hi Haley! Your fabrics are so gorgeous and had my mind racing for patterns as well! I agree that the oppressive heat and humidity combo in summer can be exhausting and just plain uck! Unlike you though, I feel like the heat gets trapped under long layers - even in breathable fabrics, lol. I go for shorter, shaped but not tight garments. I'm only 5'2", so If I don't have a more fitted pattern I just look like I'm wearing a moo moo. Good luck with all your makes and thanks for sharing!

I definitely understand what you mean!! I think some cropped versions of these patterns may well be in order!

@@SewHayleyJane Hi again, Haley.I just saw the box unveiling that another RU-vid influencer I watch in the US just did - Tom Kat Stitchery. I gave lots of positive comments so more people in the US try the boxes.

As to your facing problems, I personally think a lot of people are taught to understitch VERY close to the seam line which, I feel doesn’t really accomplish the job of understitching. I’ve always understitched down the middle of whatever the seam allowance is and that really helps to hold the facing in. I’m also a BIG believer in top stitching as a design element, so I topstitch pretty much every edge! Good luck with the heat!😻🌞
@SewHayleyJane
@SewHayleyJane Год назад
Ah that's a really interesting point, I'll have to try that out. But yes, I think top stitching as a design element is a great way to put it

Great video Hayley. I totally agree with you about neckline facings!! Doesn’t matter what I do they always peek out and don’t sit right. I always end up stitching them down which doesn’t always look professional. It happens with RTW garments too though. Love your choices and look fwd to seeing some of them!
@SewHayleyJane
@SewHayleyJane Год назад
I don’t know what it is!! They just never sit flat, it’s very frustrating. 🤪

Love the Sea change jumpsuit, but I completely agree about facings , I have never been happy with the finish of facings, despite understitching etc. I always do a bias finish these days, if I can! Good luck making these patterns up and I look forward to seeing you wearing them.

I am plus sized and I love your choices.I am looking forward to seeing the tee shirt dress on. You always look great in your clothes and it is brilliant to see how the clothes look on someone like me. I wear lightweight longer length french knickers under dresses and skirts in the summer.They stop the chaffing and feel feminine.where could I buy the french city fabric from?

Thank you Maureen, I’ll make sure to share the T-shirt dress. It’s called “Life in Venice” by Lady McElroy and is a viscose challis lawn. Most places are sold out but looks like this place has some available… www.coolcrafting.co.uk/product/life-in-venice-100-viscose-challis-copy-2/

Can I suggest changing the tie to a shirred strap on the jumpsuit that you could slide on and off? Also, what if you move the button and loop to the front so it is easy to fasten but be enough to space in slipping on and off? The pants are stunning!
@SewHayleyJane
@SewHayleyJane Год назад
Oooh I like the shirred strap idea! I think if I put the fastening to the front I made have a bit of an exposure issue!

In your video you show that the gaping under the arm is too blousy, if you take that in, will you have the circumference at the chest level to get your hips through even with changing the straps? What if you do a button front to give you more room down to the waist? My hips are 8 dress sizes different from my bust. Do you find you get thigh munch with wide leg light weight pants? I find while walking my thighs pull up the fabric and I'm constantly pulling them down so they don't bunch in the crotch area.
@SewHayleyJane
@SewHayleyJane Год назад
Hmm… that’s a good point! In this pattern my hips are 4 sizes bigger than my bust, I’ll have to test it with the one I’ve already made and undo the straps… might take some wiggling but a button front is a good option, it already has a centre front seam. As for the thigh bunch… yes I do know what you mean, it does happen sometimes (especially noticeable with shorts) but it’s not enough to bother me too much.
