My sales were crazy last week. But ebay is not the only place i list. Just a heads up, if you dont have an ebay store, just update your items header to say "SALE"....one thing i notice when looking at others listings, is that their pictures suck. Point blank. Make sure to iron your clothes if their wrinkled, and put them on a mannequin with a nice background. Your pictures being better quality is the most important thing and will draw in sales. I never do FREE shipping. I list my items lower and have shipping price listed separate. I know people normally search "lowest plus shipping" but i personally dont think that matters. You also have to be realistic with price and is your item something someone will buy ? Too many people are putting used bin items up for more then they are to buy new, you have to be realistic if you want sales. Also, if item is used, 90% of my items are under $20. Most people will not buy used clothes for over $20 unless they are top label name or vintage. The other thing is dont be afraid on non-clothing bins at goodwill. I have sold a motorcycle waterbottle holder thing for near $100, a medical gel seat cushion for close to $100 and some misc text books for almost $100 each. Hope this helps some people.
Cant be said enough, MAKE GOOD PICS, watch how to vids if you have to, can even fix em on ur puter before using in auction! choose key words carefully & load that title up! make sure ur pricing is in line....Ebay seems to be picking up some, make sure your auctions are ready to ride that wave!
Leighann Anderson - Not the most savvy eBay seller here in terms of making the maximum amount of cash I truly think I could (realistically) get for each item I list. However because I do not do it (sell) full time, I don't miss a moment of sleep because of that fact. No I just like to buy items (both new & used) & move them as efficiently as possible. So about this 'Sale' thing & because I do not have an online store, do you mean for us to just include the word 'sale' in our title for any given item? For example 'Majestic Atlanta Braves Home jersey - XL 'Sale' or 'On Sale'? Also by you doing that do you actually have concrete evidence that more potential buyers have looked at your items because you have the word 'Sale' word attached to them? Then subsequently made them more tempted to buy them, as well? Any help in this regard would be appreciated. Only because my bedroom is starting to become an overcrowded warehouse for things I just cannot seem to move. Anyway, happy (successful) selling to you. Cheers!!!
Tee Dee What i do is wait till i see more then one "watcher" on my item. Then i will edit my title with the word Sale or 2day sale etc. When i do this, i literally get a sale withing 2 days. I dont have evidence and it may not work for everyone, but for me it does everytime. Also, i dont keep items more then 60 days in inventory. So when i see the last week before 60 days is coming, i lower the price and put 2 day sale. I think i have only ever had 5 items not sell within 60 days and they were mens items. For me, my men stuff doesnt go nearly as fast as my womens and kids. But try it and see what happens. Another thing i do, is check my comps and sell for $1 lower so my listing is one of the first ones that is seen.
Leigh Ann love all your tips but I gotta disagree on your free shipping comment, I shop a lot on eBay and I am more inclined to buy products when I see the FREE SHIPPING on the listing 👍🏼, I always filter my searches to US ONLY and FREE SHIPPING.
I killed it at yard sales this weekend!! Nike and Under Armour 2&3 XL for $2, Michael Kors NWT for $5 (and some not new but still nice)!! $600 listed---spent $60. Loving this reselling thing 😎
I was at an estate sale where a guy said that he's been selling full time for 4 years and he's never felt he had to get a part-time job until now. They seemed to think that it has a lot to do with the election, however election year trends usually show a just above average return. The problem points more the to current economy for those of you who are in the US or who sell in the US. We are in a downward trend pointing towards another recession, mostly bc most Americans are highly leveraged and despite the really low interest rates, after all the debts are paid ppl have a lot less in discretionary funds which means less money flowing into the economy. That being said, its predicted that a full downturn should be expected mid 2017 although some experts predict end 2017. So invest in things that ppl can't do without, winter boots, coats. Women are more likely to buy for the kids, than for themselves, so toys and clothing. And of course for men bc they tend to have more discretionary income and tend to be more "me" inclined. Sorry guys, just the truth.
I had stopped doing free shipping because I just wasn't sure it was making any difference. But now I'm going to try it again, especially since I sell a lot of clothes and not higher end ones, because we don't have those here in my rural area. So I'm going to spend about an hour and go through my store. I already do some of these things you talk about, but I think it's worth the time. Thanks so much for your videos! they really really encourage me and I look forward to every time you put one up.... have a great day 👍👍👍
Great direction. sometimes those of us just starting out, think too hard, and it really comes down to keeping things somewhat simple. we try and out think ourselves. At least I do.
Thanks Casey ! Another good way to boost sales a bit is to use Social Media Advertising- Use the Link at the Top Right on the listing's page. If You Check the Announcements on eBay, You will see they have been doing updates to the site. I was Listing over the weekend, and the site was extremely slow, and was producing errors. For me anyway, it seems anytime they do updates, or make changes, sales slow down. There also was a big DNS Hack Recently that rendered allot of sites non-operable. I Would Suggest checking eBay's announcement board occasionally to see what they are up to, & if you think there is a problem, call them and let them know about it.
Thanks Casey for another great video. I am going to run an end of Octoberfest sale on all my antique beer steins just to get them moving. I would not have thought about it without your advice. So thank you. I am relieved to hear you say sales were slow as I thought it was just me. While it sucks for all of us - it's good to understand that it might just be a trend and we will all kill it in the next few weeks! Good luck everyone I want everyone to do good!!
Andrew beer steins are great items. And doing a sale will def move them. Thanks soo much for the kind comment and good luck on getting sales up!! mine are increasing slowly again thank god
Key words are soooo important! pick search engine tickle words, even ones that may be relateable in the news, current events etc...! You dont always want to copy the other sellers words, you want to stand alone from them if possible, if the buyer only sees YOUR item in an unusual search then bingo they will buy! You can keep changing them all thru the auction time also...
Casey I just stumbled on a trick that just worked really well for me. It's totally counter-intuitive but I thought I'd give it a shot. I thought to myself yesterday, "the holiday shopping season is getting ready to kick in, people are preparing to spend money. What if I RAISE my prices to anticipate the added demand." I only have 50 or so items up at the moment, so it was easy to do, one by one. I increased my prices by a dollar or two on every item that had been getting stale. This morning, I wake up to 4 of them sold last night- for *more* than they were listed over the last few weeks! Thoughts?
My thought is when you change a price (whether you raise or lower), ebay sends product emails to any of the watchers. That might be why you notice an increase in sales.
John Bishop I've wondered about doing this was afraid eBay would frown on that. Also never dreamed buyers would actually go for it. I have items I look back on and wish I would have asked more.
I'm glad you mentioned that because the same thing happened to me last week. I had this great Blue Tooth I had owned for about 2 months but rarely used. Cost me $40 new. I wanted to make a quick buck so I listed it for $20. It got, I think, 5 or 6 views in a week. I decided wth, and raised the price to $35, and it sold within 2 days. Idk but my guess is that people just love buying expensive things and love spending $$, period.
Have been selling on eBay for about 8 years. Part time mind you, due to the fact that I have a real job, as well. Legitimately have 100% feedback, yet lately sales have been slower than hell. Yes, even after I took your advice & started to ship free. So before I reluctantly watch this video, just be real & tell me that it is truly worth my time doing so. Thanks, in advance.
Sales are kinda slow right now, not really sure why. Election? i doubt it, Halloween needs to pass first? maybe... Hoping once we hit Nov 1st it'll pick up. Yes i think this video will help you. Offering free shipping is ONE TIP,, Running a sale, Doing Best offers, changing titles and keywords etc ALL good things to do and see if it works.
I'm a stay at home mom so I'm going to offer Christmas wrapping for the holidays at $4 a package. Getting paper and ribbon at Dollar Tree and since I have done it previously for extra money, I'm pretty fast and neat. So I'm hoping that will help pick up sales too. Etsy makes it easy to add wrapping, but talked to Ebay and finally decided the only way to do it is to put it in the "variations" tab. So I'll let you know how it works out. ;)
Thanks Casey. I'm running a sale and trying to get listings up and my items are starting to sell. Not where I want to be but at least things are starting to move! :-)
I always look for the Cheapest price when i buy off of ebay i dont really care if the item is free shipping- If i can get the same or similar item for a couple bucks less I go with that seller - Even if i have to add the shipping cost and the item cost together if the price is cheaper than a listing with free shipping I go with the lowest price - Im pretty sure everybody shops that way - They find the item they want then search to find the cheapest one of that item that is listed on Ebay- Then they buy that item - Unless of course that seller has terribly bad feedback -
This is my favorite of all your videos ... not just because you shouted mom and I out ... who am I kidding that's exactly why LOL :) Thanks! On the serious ... good video!
Good information as always another idea is utilize eBay promoted listings yes costs a little but worth it, also idea when you are on the road utilize periscope app for videos.
With keywords is it still important to get what the item "is" in the first four words? Am doing all the first 4 on a regular basis so will look at keywords Thanks
Thank you so much for keeping these short! My Android phone won't allow me to run RU-vid in the background, and I have no computer, so I need to actually watch the videos I see on RU-vid lol
I have a lot of "Made in USA" items and I think that helps them sell. So that might be another thing to add to the title if it's truely made here. No fudging!
You certainly deserve all those Subscribers! Your advice has been priceless. Thank you for the videos. Here's a QUESTION for Friday nite: I understand that, instead of hitting RELIST, I should try relisting with "Sell Similar" ...OK, then what's the next step - How can I move the old pictures to the new listing? Or, do I need to take all new photos for the new listing? I sell sport coats, with lots of photos. I deleted the photos after the original posting. Do I need to save the photos until the garment sells? Bunny
Great video as always. When Megan was on your live stream she gave a list of good keywords she uses for clothing. Do you or anybody else here know of a good database of keywords?
Thanks Casey just wanted to give you a heads up that I just redid my whole store because of this ha ha I saw a lot of discrepencies in my listings like the best category for that item and Specifics that are so messed up
Dont really think you have to lower your prices too low if you have more unique stuff. Im always trying to find stuff other ppl dont have for sale... yes it can be done. Less competition = easier sales
RockstarFlipper Just another thinking out of the box idea for someone out there: If you like to sell T shirts why not design cool hand painted or some other style handmade ones & sell the shit out of them? Back in the day i loved wearing artist made awesomeness Ts, i felt unique (Y B NRML?). Didnt care they were pricey either
Hi Casey, Thanks for all of your great videos! They are very helpful. Question... Is there a benefit to havjng an eBay Store vs. just having a seller's account without a store? Ive been selling on eBay for about a year and thinking of changing over to an official store but I'm confused as to the difference / benefits, fees etc. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :-)
Thank you! Very helpful. Weird question but do you buy a lot on eBay as well or do you try to stay away from that? How many packages per day on average do you ship out? ( Just curious :) ) I have been a seller for a few months and just starting my basic store yay!
I buy a few items every month. 3-4 like supplies, and toner, and random things. We ship about 25-30 items now per day. I wanna do about 50 per day as Christmas gets closer
I thought I was the only one, I have barely sold anything in 3 weeks. I have been wondering, is it better to use stock photos, actual photos or a combination of the 2?
hi casey, love your videos. you've probably answered this before but do you do auction listing or fixed price? if auction, what do you do for starting price? I've been burned a couple times on auctions. thx. jodi
They do ok through January because people get amazon and eBay and via gift cards and they wanna shop shop shop.. its pretty good usually. i would list like crazy all through january and after christmas
Great advice Casey as always. Do you think the Ebay hack last week has anything to do with slow traffic. And can you do a video in the future over search engine keywords???
Does Every single listing have to be 30 day returns to get the power seller logo on your listing? I sometimes sell some broken electronics and put no returns on it so I'm assuming thats messing it up?
Thank you so much for your Videos!!! I have learned so much watching you over the last 5 months. When you go to church rummage sales, do you try to make deals or just pay what they are asking for the product? I feel guilty about asking for a lower price so I don't do it very often.
Janet GREAT QUESTION!! Typically i won't negotiate too much unless its high or i think i need it cheaper. Sometimes i do bundles which isn't as bad :-) and they love selling a lot at once, so i use that strategy with them
For Q&A: What is the deal about passing on postage savings to our buyers, or, keeping it for ourselves as sellers? You actually have to decide and go in and check off your preference.
Your Rock!!!! QUESTION I did the sell similar on of the listings and eBay caught as a duplicate listing, if is to be assigned a new number, how come eBay knows the listing already exists? Does that mean that sell similar really does not refresh your listing?
It has to already be ended otherwise eBay will see its duplicate. If its still active that dosnt work. You press sell similar on items once they end. If you have a good till cancelled item...END IT, THEN sell similar
I've been trying everything but barely getting any sales. I offer free shipping, I use as many keywords as possible for the titles, I have best offer, I price fairly but also so that a best offer isn't to low for me, & my descriptions are pretty detailed so I really don't understand what's going on. The only thing I can think of is that my pictures need some work. Any tips?
www.ebay.com/usr/ringbearer90 I know they a lot of this will probably seem amatureish but I'm really just starting to get serious about reselling so I have to start somewhere right? Any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
2017 - just a comment. It seems that Ebay has lost luster for sales, esp. if you look at the forums and how many people are closing stores (monthly fee) and just listing during the "free" listings promo. I think store owners are tired of paying the monthly fees and not getting good returns, that's what I see. As a solo seller, I'm not getting views on Ebay. I honestly think there's something going on with technology @ Ebay. And their marketing department isn't keeping up with the times. It seems that sites like Swap, Posh, et al have caught up to Ebay and taking away sales and buyers/sellers. I often go to the downdetector.com site (reports when there are outtages) and the complaints against Ebay are monumental. Again, I just don't think EB is with the times, with the newer consumer. And -- it doesn't know how to present it's web pages so that folks can search for items easily. But neither does AMZ (IMO).
Hey Casey, What about ones without eBay stores? Do you have any advice for us? Any tips and tricks for those that don't have stores and are experiencing slow sales? Other then good products, LOL i know thats first in the line of things to do and have haha. Also i agree with ivan pena i do think the recent hacks with amazon and PayPal have made things slow because certain buyers are skeptical on buying right now.
