Good morning all. This was a project I’ve been planning pretty much since my last top 50. I wanted to make each entry count in this ranking, and it wasn’t easy. It was a lot of hard work as well, but so fun at the same time. Enjoy. Stay safe everyone, and stay positive. ❤️👏

I don't know. An anthology horror film seems like a difficult thing to get right. Trick 'r Treat absolutely nailed it, and maybe we should be grateful that it didn't inspire a slew of knockoffs.

Finally someone else who was sitting in the theater thinking The Blair Witch Project was real 🤯🤣 I've said since the beginning it's the most genius marketing campaign ever! I remember watching the "documentary" special on the sci-fy where the families and investigators were interviewed. They all talked about how uncomfortable they were broadcasting their loved one's death etc.. Incredible!

But some notable titles I would include are The Fly, The Omen, Get Out, Train to Busan, The Babadook, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Creepshow, Insidious, Interview with the Vampire, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Others, REC, The Ring, and Silent Hill. Great list Lee! I have a few of ones own favorites. "Devil" by M Night , horribly underrated. "Pitch Black", first glimpse of Vin Diesel and scary at every turn. "Ghost Stoiry" older move with Fred Astaire about four elderly gentleman who hide a secret from their past and ultimately pay for it. "Darkness Falls"- oh the Tooth Fairy scared the hell out of me. And my newest favorite, one corker of an unsettling movie, "Drag me to Hell". A fine return to horror by Sam Raimi

Yeah. That was such an inspired touch for a 1979 sci-fi film: to have the personnel seem so salt-of-the-earth, as opposed to aseptic, white-suited scientists who speak in techno-jargon. Probably a subtle microcosm of the "cyber-punk" aesthetic, which Ridley Scott would dip further into with Blade Runner.

Great list, and as always it was a pleasure to watch. It made me smile every classic movie that you mentioned that I have fond memories of, regardless of rank. If I were creating your list, I would have a hard time with how you categorized it. For example, Silence of the Lambs is on my list of best movies, but as a horror movie it didn’t work as well as some others. While a movie that terrified me might not be as high a quality of movie in most respects. I might have broken it down into categories like, films that scared me so much I had to leave the light on at night, movies that were the highest quality or most influential, movies that were the most fun, etc. Of course since it’s easier to scare a kid than an adult, the list of scariest for me would skew towards the older movies. I do tend to view horror movies as ones that are trying or succeeding at scaring me more then probably the normal definition of ‘horrifying.’ So, though I think that they are great movies I wouldn’t have included 7, Silence of the Lambs, or maybe even Saw. But, I would have included the Ring, and the Changeling, because they left echoes of fear. While movies that weren’t scary, that didn’t make the cut, but were fun quality classics, The People Under the Stairs, Gremlins, or Tremors, might make a different type of list. Your list of the best non-slasher horror was awesome the way you did it. Thank you.

Great list, like you I love horror (mainly slashers and psychological horror). Here's my top 5 1. The Thing (1982)- Such a classic, love everything about from the effects to the atmosphere. 2. American Psycho- I don't count it as a slasher, for me it's a psychological horror. Such a funny film that left me shocked first time I saw it. 3. Silence of the Lambs- Perhaps the horror film that felt the most realistic. Great acting from anyone and a film that leaves me shivering just knowing people like Buffalo Bill existed. 4. Get Out- Loved everything about this, the acting from Kaluuya and the commentary which to me was done right and didn't take away from the film 5. The Fly (1986)- Such a heartbreaking horror film, perhaps the saddest. Loved the acting from Jeff Goldblum and especially the special effects.

Great vid, Lee. I gave you a sub. I listened to both Top 50s. Knowing what you do and dont consider horror/slasher, I'll try to put one together. We've got a bunch of overlaps (diff spots). I dont put some of the ones in the horror category you did, but that's a me thing. I know most people do. I always focus on it's gotta be supernatural horror/ or a malevolent human trying to inflict horror, malice, and fear. Anyway, here's what I got for a top 50 non slasher (I had a list of 300 horror total to pull from) 50. Hellraiser * 49. I Drink Your Blood 48. The Evil Dead 47. Dracula Has Risen from the Grave 46. Dawn of the Dead 45. Nightmare Beach * 44. Color Me Blood Red 43. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch 42. Strip Nude for Your Killer * 41. Gremlins 40. Nightmare Castle 39.Carrie 38. Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man) 37. Vampyres 36. Taste the Blood of Dracula 35. Mark of the Devil 34. Valerie & Her Week of Wonders 33. Possession (1981) 32. Demons 2 31. Twins of Evil 30. Rosemary's Baby 29. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II 28. Thirst (1979) 27. Kill Baby Kill 26. The Blood Spattered Bride 25. Nightmare City 24. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 * 23. Night of the Demons 22. All the Colors of the Dark 21. The Church (Demons 3) 20. Hellbound: Hellraiser II * 19. Lisa & The Devil 18. Dolls 17. Night of the Living Dead 16. Repulsion 15. Virgin Witch 14. Lady Frankenstein 13. The Red Queen Kills Seven Times 12. The Devil's Wedding Night 11. The Devil's Nightmare 10. Satan's Slave 9. Count Dracula's Great Love 8. The Howling 7. I spit on Your Grave 6. The Vampire Lovers 5. The Beyond 4. Black Sunday 3. Spider Baby * 2. Demons 1. Suspiria and if you still havent seen Maniac like you said in the other vid, def get a jump on that! The Blue Underground set is worth it

Psycho is quite a bit more prestigious than your typical slasher. Most people tend to classify Hitchcockian horror in a very high echelon. It's certainly quite different from TCM, A Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.

Fantastic list. I could not even imagine trying to put together a top 50 favourite horror movies of all time so really great job. For me a couple of horror films that I would try to put in there somewhere would be aliens and predator as well as the fly remake with Jeff goldblum other than that I say you made a list that is pretty spot on with what I would have put and probably what other would have put.

I hadn't considered that, but you're right - there are quite a few parallels between the two films. The slow burn, the surreally disturbing imagery, the heroine who's stuck in an abusive family situation... Maybe Eggers does owe some inspiration to Kubrick's classic.

Loved the video and I totally agree with you Lee that these are the best and important horror movies of all time because some of these films inspired other movies of today! ❤🔪
@colinbaldwin313
@colinbaldwin313 Год назад
Originality is always good, but I don't think a movie is necessarily great simply because it inspired myriad subsequent films. Often, it's the case that an original masterpiece will cause a lot of knockoffs to be produced within a few years of its release. However, it's also possible for a remake, sequel, or "inspired" film to improve on a previous classic by better executing its premise.

Really enjoyed this list... Many I've seen; some I haven't and look forward to checking out (mostly the more modern stuff). Personally, I find rankings tough, so I appreciate the effort the effort that must have gone into this list (and your other top 50!). Thx for your efforts, Lee.... Couple of questions @Drumdums : - No Cronenberg.... Not a fan in general? - Vampire movies: I'm always baffled not to read/hear more about Romero's 'Martin' (another non-traditional vampire tale).... Love that movie. Have you seen it? .....Any thoughts? - The Witch: I went to the cinema so hyped for that movie and left cold..... I will have to revisit.

Hey Lee, I would definitely classify 'Psycho' as a slasher film. One of the earliest and best out there. Considering two of the victims literally get slashed to death with a kitchen knife. Am I wrong about this? Also, there's quite a few films on your list that I personally would NOT have on mine (Us, Signs, Rosemary's Baby, Susperia, Blair Witch, The Witch, etc...all decent films, but all overrated in my humble opinion), and some really great classic horror films that would've DEFINITELY been on my list that were missing from yours (Event Horizon, Phantasm, Creepshow, Day of the Dead, Nightbreed, The Omen, Demon Knight, In The Mouth of Madness, Near Dark, The Howling, The Wicker Man, Cujo, Children of the Corn, The Hills Have Eyes, Re-Animator, Monster Squad, Pumpkinhead, Christine, They Live, The Fly (1986), The Blob (1988), Silver Bullet, The Conjuring, Sinister, Insideous, The Changeling, The Entity, etc...just to name a few.) I agree with most of your list, but not having some of the ones I listed is just plain blasphemous...haha. ;) Maybe you should do a part 2 to this video. A possible future video idea perhaps. :) Take care.

Great List & a very cool video. But a few I’m surprised you didn’t mention would be..Day of the Dead (ya got Night & Dawn but why no Day!?) I feel it’s super underrated. Some of the greatest practical SFX ever! And No Nightbreed or Hellraiser!?(can’t have a horror list without at least 1 or 2 Clive Barker flicks!) And Not one Cronenberg movie?! WTF I mean The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners, the list goes on & on. I may be somewhat biased as a proud Canadian 🇨🇦 but how can you have a Top 50 list without at least one David Cronenberg movie!? All that aside this list made me remember how many of these movies I saw in the theatre and how much I miss movie theatres right about now! I can’t disagree too much with The Thing @ #1. Classic flick. Might be my fave Carpenter movie all time and that’s really saying something (no disrespect to Halloween 🎃) but it is such a timely movie, especially right now like you said. Jaws can’t really be argued with either near the top for me as well. To me Jaws is the ultimate summertime movie 🦈 Keep the deadly content coming brotha. I really dig your channel man. Cheers

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Hey, I think the second movie is great, I prefer the more surrealist 70's vibe from the first one to be honest but to each his own man, I've seen quite a few fans say the second one is better and in some ways it is, but the first has some sort of charm to it that I appreciate and it's always stuck with me, I really related to Mike in the first film. It is always nice to hear a different opinion of course. Thanks for the heart, and really nice video!

Some absolute gems in here. Since it'll take too long for me to think of a top 50, how about a 10? 1. Jaws 2. An American Werewolf in London 3. Night of the Living Dead 4. Psycho 5. Alien 6. The Evil Dead 7. The Thing 8. The Silence of the Lambs 9. The Shining 10. Hellraiser It wouldn't surprise me if I changed my mind later with 6-10 but that's off the top of my head.
