Rhaegar knighted the man who raped his wife and killed his alleged children. That's tough.

Especially Oberyn Martell, Euron Greyjoy and Brynden Rivers are awsome because they not only have a crazy past but are also players and genuises. And Pedro Pascal's portrail of Oberyn is near perfect.

I think Euron wears an eye patch so one eye is always adjusted to the dark.

Book Euron is worthy of a prequel spinoff; TV Euron is basically the Negan of the show, not to take anything away from Pilou Asbaek's excellent performance.

This is why the books are better. The show has butchered some of the best characters. I'm starting to wonder if The Hound is Azor Ahai, and it's a cruel joke that he would have to use lightbringer.

Oberyn still get me man. What a performance by Pedro. The guy just ooses charisma. As a straight man, it didn't even bother me when he was in his Bi sexual scenes cause the dude was just so badass.

I actually like Jaimes backstory more than Sandors... But I think if I'd put another character into that list it would probably be Tywin. Overall the list is very interesting. Of course with characters like Varys, Oberyn, Bloodraven, Rhaegar and Euron... you can't really argue against that. They've seen so much and there's so much mystery involved. Barristan and sandor on the other hand are not so mysterious and take more the route of badass, sad or interesting, but still very straight forward. And I think in that regard Tywin is to me even more interesting than Barristan. The whole Rayne/Tarbeck rebellion when he was young, his weak father, his two brothers we've never met in the show (Tygett and GErion), building up his house from it's low point. Falling in love with Joanna, best friends with Steffon Baratheon and Aerys Targaryen, how he became hand and ruled as such for 20 years, how Pycelle became so taken by his leadership qualities, how the King would descend into madness and how he's be mocked at court because of the strained relationship with Aerys, climaxing with Aerys being smitten by Joanna... How he'd give up his position as Hand when Jaime became Kingsguard and lastly his role in Roberts REbellion and marrying his daughter to Robert... There's so much, and also quite a bit we don't know that much about or we could theorise around it.

Oberyn Martell is the best side character for me

Tywin Lannister's backstory always is an interesting read, for me at least. Nothing too fantastical (which is probably why it's not on the list), but definitely an unmistakable story of a dude born into a broken family, losing power, who single-handedly turned that family into the most powerful family in Westeros, in less than a generation. The guy was straight-up HARDCORE!

How could you forget one of the most badass characters in asoiaf? Daemon Targaryen, the Rogue Prince could have easily taken the first place! He was master of coin, then master of laws, until he was appointed commander of the goldcloaks, a suiting role for him. He was the brother of a king, husband of a queen and father of two kings. He conquered the stepstones and then left when he grew bored. Just read George RR Martin's "A King's brother, or The Rogue Prince", a novel completely dedicated to the early life of the Rogue Prince (It's also available as a soundbook read by Iain Glen, best known for his role as the Lord of the Friendzone, Jorah Mormont).

Tywin, Ned, Jaime, and Littlefinger’s backstories are all really good.

The Red Viper being killed and Ed Stark beheading. Literally heart wrenching moments. I can't even think about it without getting upset. Pretty amazing for fiction.

Littlefinger has a good backstory

Tywin Lannister has one of the best backstories too. Probably the most complete one since we know some stuff back when was a newborn.

Maybe Tywin Lannister but his backstory doesn't seem as interesting in vomparison to the others on the list

Arthur Dayne?

Bloodraven is the coolest. I hope one of the GoT spinoffs be about him.

My favourite backstory apart from Brynden Rivers of course is Eleana Targaryen. One of the three princesses in the maidenvault who would live a tumultuous life after being freed after Baelor the blessed died. She met so many important characters during her life and was daughter, sister, niece, cousin and much more to many different Targaryen kings. She indirectly even served as King Daeron II master of coin through her husband Ronnel Penrose. I would love to hear more about her as no one seems to be as interesting as she is in my opinion

Considering that you only did characters that are still relevant to the current story this list is very good but I always loved the backstory of the blackfish and Gerion Lannister

The reason why Euron wore an eyepatch is because pirates would wear them so they always had an eye adjusted to darkness. If they went below deck, then they would switch the eyepatch around.

I’m surprised Tyrion’s backstory isn’t included on this list. His backstory isn’t really known to casual tv show watchers, yet it is the most tragic backstory in the series in my opinion, and central to his motives throughout the series.

About Greyjoy & his eyepatch, its cuz pirates would cover 1 eye so when they go below they switch eyes so that the eye covered is already use to the dark. U know, otherwise u couldn't see shit until ur eyes got use to the dark witch takes 30min at least

All of your comments and suggestions of other characters with a markable backstory just proof one thing: The Author did an amazing job on writing every fu**ing character a story to believe and how huge and genius this all is! All of the characters you all mentioned would have earned a place on such a list, whether you like them or not. They're all intresting enough and that's the reason we love these books and that hole universe so much. Am i right :)?
