Great Video! Although I am not coeliac, I can completely relate in the sense that I have IBD (Crohn's disease of the small bowel) and this is often confused with IBS which is incredibly frustrating as although both leave you with low quality of life, one actually presents on the body through bloodwork/ulcerations on the bowel whereas the other does not!
I will sometimes tell certain restaurants/staff that it's an allergy or like an allergy to get them to treat it like, say, a nut allergy because the word "Celiac" may not always be known.
Great video! I just found your chanel and it seems amazing. I have a coeliac dissease too and I must say that I have heard these myths so many times... My 'favorite' one was when a cook at a camp told me that you can't cook gluten-free since everything contains gluten. Well, let's say that I haven't eaten anything from that cook again and the organizers (college students) made me and my other gluten-free friend a nice egg-based meals for the rest of the week. Thanks for the video!
weight loss is the only symptom i didnt get when doing my gluten trial to get retested. The shame of being constantly asked if uve lost weight and you are the heaviest youve ever been 😅😅.
Yep. I was really heavy and after I got diagnosed and went gluten free I lost 70 lbs! My doctors guess (and I agree) is that because I was so malnourished that my body started craving more food because it couldn’t get any nutrients. So I would eat more and generally when you eat more you eat less healthy. I would eat tons of cheap fast food because it was easiest. So the nutrients my body was able to absorb were the generally bad causing me to be very overweight. Once I ate gluten free it changed dramatically and I lost all my weight :)
When I was diagnosed the two that got me frustrated was, wel you can’t be coeliac coz you look way to healthy. The other was well you haven’t lost weight but you’ve gained weight. Urgh. I later learned that not all people loose weight that some gain weight
"How coeliac are you?" Is a common comment, as people get confused as some coeliacs eat things other wont. I actually worked at a function with a lady who said she was coeliac and was eating the leftover shared food which was covered with gluten products (high risk of cross contamination) and she didnt understand why i didnt want to. Though im very careful ive been told to be more careful by the gastroentrologist.
That's annoying. I used to be but that was because i had to have a certain amount of gluten in my body at all times while waiting for my test to confirm it.
"Gluten free food is healther, less sugar, less fat so i can eat more of it" Last week i was given a pizza by my workplace that was GF and it was great but everyone else had to eat it because "we won't gain as much weight" even though there were gluten pizzas they could eat. I had someone actually sit down with me and say "you don't have to say its coeliac, i know your trying to eat healthier" x.x
