i like that one - one of the first books I've read. much better than the one by Pink. though not as to the point as Essential Truths by Sproul, it has an inspirational aspect to it
"No God but one, Allah or Jesus" by Nabeel Qureshi An excellent analysis of the history and theological claims of the the two religions by an ex-Muslim. Easy to read and necessary if you wish to work in apologetics against Islam.
thanks! Islam is on my "to do list" but still low on my radar. I should really get back into it, since it's huge and socially very relevant, and when I do, I'll definitely look into this book
If you're interested about the author this does a good representation of him. gcconline.org/sermons/nabeel-qureshi/?player=audio I'd recommend his other works too.
Hi Jason, i think your list is great. Classic books were represented on your list. Here's my "rotational" list, meaning books that are always on my reading list: 1. Knowing God by J.I. Packer 2. Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem 3. Cross of Christ by John Stott (special mention: Sermon on the Mount) 4. Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis 5. The Reason for God by Tim Keller (special mention: Prayer) 6. For the Love of God vol 1 and 2 by D.A. Carson 7. Pleasures of God by John Piper (special mention: Desiring God) 8. The Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges (special mention: Blessing of Humility) 9. Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Don Whitney (please stay away from Richard Foster) 10. Spiritual Depression by Marty Lloyd Jones Hope this list helps ...
thank you! I like your suggestion and your style! I buy a lot of books including devotionals but my favorite 'devotional' is to pick up my Bible and read it and see where it takes me
that's great! I try to make these videos fun. but what's better is that you'll be reading these awesome books! Leaders are readers. use the links in the description
I wrestle with this question a lot. Perhaps I'll make a video at some point, but I think it depends on the Christian. Their reading level, Length of time in the faith, and denomination all play a factor.
It's okay not to be a Christian in your life because there's many religions and you can choose one that fits you. Everybody has a different goal, and they need a religion that fits their character. It may even need to be irreligious. Whatever religion you follow you want to do whatever you can to make yourself better. You want to serve other people. The most important thing to realize is that nobody knows what happens when you die
Why not read my former apologetics and law professor, Dr. John Warwick Montgomery's "History and Christianity." He's the world's leading evidential apologist. Josh McDowell cites him in his works and he came to do a seminar at Montgomery's law and grad school. Josh was awarded the school's first honorary doctorates.
I'd suggest The Reformed Faith by Lorraine Bottner, I don't know if most would call it a book though, it's only twenty something pages, but still some solid reading.
Agreed. You should be able to find a better word than”sucks.” You might show other Christian authors in that genre some love instead of throwing them into to a collective garbage can. Also, not all Christian fiction is a waste of time. Christ used parables using illustrations that may or may not have been a real case study, and he successfully made very strong lessons out of them. Read C.S. Lewis’s essays, “On Fairy Tales” and others.
Hello pastor. I'm a Christian youtube uber driver as well. Lol. I feel that God has me doing it to share the gospel message. Although I do want a career. Rc sproul was an awesome brother. I appreciate these books as I want to be a Christian Literature Professor. I hope to hear from you brother.
I love these videos !! 🙏💖They’re sooo funny and eye opening/helpful!! I love the intro “don’t waste your time with stupid bks like this( holds an attack Christianity book) 🤣🤣🤣 But also in my opinion some good authors/ preachers are Derek prince and a lot of people have been mentioning frank Hammond , and Hagen who talk more on some darker issues like demons and spiritual warfare and breaking generational curses! These types of books are I think very necessary.: especially for someone like me who has had a lot of spiritual warfare and have experienced demonic attacks even being born again and don’t make a practice of sin. Deliverance books are sooo helpful!
Good list. Double bonus points for "Life of David Brainard" by Jonathan Edwards. Here's my list, and these are all for beginners or people who are new to Christianity: 1. The End For Which God Created the World by Jonathan Edwards. (I think this is THE essential book that every Christian should read.) 2. Basic Christianity by John Stott. 3. What Is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert. 4. Decision-Making and the Will of God by Garry Freissen. 5. Scaling the Secular City by J.P. Moreland. 6. Tactics by Greg Koukl. 7. Jesus Under Fire, edited by Michael J. Wilkins and J.P. Moreland. 8. The Forgotten Trinity by James White. 9. Love Your God With All Your Mind by J.P. Moreland (the first edition if at all possible). 10. Relativism by Greg Koukl and Frank Beckwith. Honorable mentions: 1. Miracles by C.S. Lewis 2. True For You But Not For Me by Paul Copan (and the sequels, though this is the best one in the series). 3. The Freedom of the Will by Jonathan Edwards (My favourite book of all time, but probably not essential reading). 4. The Justification of God by John Piper. 5. God, Freedom, and Evil by Alvin Plantinga. 6. Letters to a Mormon Elder by James White (just for the chapter on grace). 7. The Potter's Freedom by James White (Just for the chapter on John 6). 8. The "Marginal Jew" series by John P. Maier. 9. The "Christian Origins and the Question of God" series by N.T. Wright. 10. Pleasing People by Lou Priolo.
I've read half those books. I see you're a fan of James White. wow, 3 by J.P Moreland on your top 10 - I wasn't that impressed by him, except #9 is excellent, never liked Plantinga. interesting you put The End..by Jonathan Edwards as #1, above his Freedom of the Will, and out of all Piper's books you chose Justification, probably his least popular book, still good though. I was actually bored by John Stott's Basic Christianity even though it has better info than Knowing God by J.I. Packer. never heard of Priolo. I'll check him out
"I see you're a fan of James White" I'm not a big fan of his on a personal level because I think he can be a bit abrasive, but he writes really good books. He has a gift for taking otherwise boring and tedious subjects and making them interesting and accessible. A good example is "The King James Only Controversy." That book got me interested in textual criticism of all things! It also got me interested enough to get William Mounce's book and try to teach myself Greek. "3 by J.P Moreland on your top 10" Two, really, since he was just the editor of one of them. "interesting you put The End..by Jonathan Edwards as #1, above his Freedom of the Will" If it was a list of my favourite books, "The Freedom of the Will" would've been at the top, but since it was a list of essential or foundational books for beginning Christians, I went with "The End. . ." Have you read that one? "out of all Piper's books you chose Justification, probably his least popular book" I don't know why that one is his least popular. Maybe it's just not widely read because it's more academic than a lot of his other stuff. For somebody who is interested in the topic, though, it's exceptional. "never heard of Priolo" I was really surprised by his book. It was not what I was expecting when I picked it up. Good stuff.
Now Sam after reading all of them. Can you tell us Who is God now Who is Jesus His Word and for what reason God needed him for. Can you tell us who is mankind and why we are here on earth. For think to not to know of this is to not to know much of God. Read this book called: THIS IS THE BOOK OF ALL KNOWLEDGE on Amazon best book on Who is God & more
Have you read any of Corrie Ten Boom's books. I was given 'In my Fathers House' when I was baptised and loved it so much I have now read a lot of her books. The most well known being 'The Hiding Place'.
So impressed with this list, and I'm so glad I found your channel! Love Tim Keller's _Ministry of Mercy_ and the book of _Spurgeon's Prayers_ (they always make me cry, they're so rich in meaning and language). _Is God Anti-gay_ by Sam Allberry was the most important book I've read for my relationship with my wonderful son. I've heard _Fox's Book of Martyrs_ is a must-read for every Christian but I don't want nightmares so haven't bought it. Thank you for this video -- more to add to my TBR list. My TBR bookshelf contains: What Happens When Women Say Yes To God - Lysa Terkeurst (+ the devotional, haha. Oops). The Scriptures Testify About Me - D.A. Carson Feeling Like God - Chris Tiegreen (about emotions) The Grace Awakening - Swindoll 8 Women of Faith - Michael A.G Haykin Choose Love Not Power - Tony Campolo Every Good Endeavour - Tim Keller Prodigal God - Tim Keller How to Read the Bible - John MacArthur Eliminating Stubborn Sin - Berni Dymet Any you can recommended I read first? (or throwing out?)
I've read only a few women books, so I can't comment on the above, but Tim Keller has good, logical books (a bit dry though). How to Read the Bible by MacArthur is a good start. Grace Awakening by Swindoll - one of my favs. Campolo was great during his time, but I think he has better books than choose love not power, or maybe just no one reads his more recent stuff. Foxe's Book of Martyrs - I almost forgot about that classic, but the writing style is so old I don't remember how I got through it. There are better books now. I'd rather read "Jesus Freaks: Martyrs"
Anyone who sees this....I want to suggest “surprised by truth” by Patrick Madrid. Very good book series! I can suggest many others too but I would start there
Best book on God is: THIS IS THE BOOK OF ALL KNOWLEDGE on Amazon This book tells you Who is God, Who is Jesus His Word who is mankind and why we are here & more a must read on God.
1. The Book of Enoch really is literally a book of prophicies about Jesus Christ Coming down as God our Lord and Savior to save us from our sins. I would reccomend every Christian and non Christian to read it.
yes, I'm aware of this book, but I didn't read it because it is not canon of Scripture and there's much doubt to its origins. That's not good enough reason not to read it, so I'll check it out one day.
pastorjasonanswers I think the Book of Enoch just clears up confussion about Jesus and prophecies and if it was cannon many cults wouldn't exisist right now.
Naturenerd1000 I read the book of Enoch, just out of curiosity. Very interesting but I did found some problems with it. I don't see it as a book for *knowledge from God* . Non the less very entertaining book.
A basic Christian history book. I'm unsure about one bringing up to the present- later Kenneth S Latourette's 2 volume A History of Christianity. Great stories. Important for apologetics and context. 'Letter from a Birmingham Jail' by Martin Luther King Jr. preferably in a book of his sermons. Also, 'The Art of Bible Translatipn' as a prelude to Richard Alter's great 'The Hebrew Bible" loaded with puns, word plays, major rabbinic commentors. Using word choice, dialect, rhythm, syntax (word Order) and other aspects of bible writing should be considered in translation. Connections between stories are often erased through poor translation. And the riches available are immense.
@@Jamsdh1 AWESOME! So glad to hear of your love expanding for our great God! The Attributes of God by A.W. Pink is very good, too! Let that be your next one. You will be blessed!
So tell me, mate, what sort of mental gymnastics did you attempt to play at whilst reading St. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH and presume that the original Church instituted by Christ himself was not that of the Roman Catholic Church? Do you think yourself above the Early Church Fathers? And that for 1500 years all of Christendom had got it entirely wrong up until Luther came onto the scene?
not all, but I consider some of Watchman Nee's writings to be borderline cultish theology. His disciple, Witness Lee, became a cult leader with his teachings.
@UCX54EqsAVOQ16RjoU3A36HA Yes it is a puritain pastor who wrote 3 volumes on all the Christian armor peices from the book of ephesians. John Newton, author of the hymn "Amazing Grace," said, "If I might read only one book beside the Bible, I would choose The Christian in Complete Armour." Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Gurnall's work is peerless and priceless; every line is full of wisdom; every sentence is suggestive." David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and the Switchblade, wrote, "The Christian in Complete Armour should be in the library of every man and woman of God."
Just read the Bible. It is sufficient for your faith. I have read hundreds of so called Christian books. The Bible is the only one that leads to life eternal.
It's a bad habit to read Christian books more than the Bible, but these other books are a good supplement, like vitamins to a healthy diet. But if you only eat vitamins (or doritos - Christian fiction), you get weak.

Key Christians books on God does not come from only of white men. Read more books by others as THIS IS THE BOOK OF ALL KNOWLEDGE on Amazon that tells us Who is God, Who is Jesus His Word for what, Who is Mankind why we are here can help us get started on God.
