The one thing I want from a noob is the one thing I hardly ever get from them. I want them to ask questions, yes. But I also want them to shut up and listen to the answers. That hardly ever happens.
Anthony....this is by far one of the best videos I've seen. They're all great.....but this was the best......keep up the great work....appreciate the effort....
Hey Anthony, Im a rookie of 9 months at a Correctional Facility in Canada. Love the channel and thanks for the sharing of knowledge. Helped me out a long way. Great night shift self-training
@@jimohlateef5602 search your local agency, and if you have a clean record, canadian citizenship and an interest in law enforcement... apply. Its hard to explain since I only know my provinces guidelines for HM Penitentiary.
Anthony, I don't know if I will ever get back into Corrections. But if I do, your podcasts will be a great help. I always learn new things from them. Very informative and educational. Thank you very much
Wow. That makes my day. I love when an experienced professional, like yourself, finds value in what we do. It means a lot to me and the team Don’t forget to get my latest book. Lol
Day one in the books👍 Went smooth, though they tell me things are getting hairier by the day do the inmates being in lockdown for 9 months. All good though, I work with a lot of great officers who offer a lot of great advice...and it helps going in with some solid foundational information, thanks to you and your contributors. Thanks again for the work you do and your excellent videos!🤙
@@racecartestpilot167 I am glad your first day went well. It seems like you have the heart, mind and support to face any challenge. I also love reading how what we provide helps those I. The profession. I am humbled. Can’t wait to hear more of this great journey your are on
I start with the BOP in june. I'm coming in with 2 years of correctional experience at a small city jail. This was very insightful as i'm making a jump to a larger facility and starting all over again.
I will tell you what most of them learn. That it will be the prisoners who teach them the job not their co workers. I spent seven years on rikers island. Most of the new officers that came on the job in whatever building I was in was told to come speak to me to learn how to do the job. There are a lot of things I had to school them on and sadly it dealt with how they were going to be viewed by and treated by their colleagues especially, if they were a female. I counseled officers and prisoners on how to conduct themselves. You want respect you have to always give it. It goes both ways. Tell them that..
Great video. Very informative. Im at the beginning stage of starting my career as a corrections officer for Miami-Dade county. Im 40 yrs old but im coming in knowing nothing & hungry to learn everything i can to build comradery, help a young mislead person that i was once wearing their shoes. I have a question, ive been out of trouble since 2010, never convicted of any felony, but ive been on the inside looking out, now i hopefully, will be on the outside lookin in. What are my chances of getting this career move & opportunity now. I honestly think i have alot to bring to the table, i have the street knowledge & my integrity & morale is at its best. I made a few mistakes as a teenager and young adult, but i paid for my mistakes & own them. Now i want to be a mentor, i know it may sound cliché, but what are my chances?
It maybe tough. It truly depends on the agency. The best thing is to always be up front. Don’t let them discover it ..tell them. But again, this can vary based on the agency and what you have done in your past
@TierTalk I hear they have a huge revolving door. Out of the 12 or 14 people in my class, there were about 4 guys. They were ecstatic that more males are applying because in Miami, there's more women working as CO'S than men (According to the hiring staff). Anyway, I've been hearing that they're in alot of need and hiring non certified COs, because many new boots quit off the jump or been caught & prosecuted for "illegal" relationships with inmates. (Don't know if this is accurate but hey, it is miami dade). I just have some minor Marijuana charge, petty theft, minor vandalism, dui & an attempted battery at a bar), all this happened from 2001-2010. I plan on being str8 up with everything in my past. I'm not holding anything back because yes, that WAS me, but NO it's NOT me now and it will never be me in the future. But ultimately, its up to them to decide. Honestly, I hear alot of young new boots don't want to work, they last no longer than 1 year on the job. It's not for everyone, I get that, but why not hire someone who's seasoned in the game, knows the streets well, & has reformed his life/turned things around? Why not give someone a chance to stand up for righteousness? Does anyone agree?? I think it does take a former thief to catch one and at least try to talk some sense into someone.
Love this considering I am in the academy now and have until January 30th and then 3 weeks of OJT then ill be on my own. Love to know what they expect from us.
I expect them to listen and the first thing you said be HUMBLE and just take it all in every unit is different keep your cool don't take shit to hart leave your emotions at home and keep a hole lot of NO's in your pocket
Hey Tony do you have an active email for tier talk? I'd like the chat sometime with you (I'm not on social media so its got to be old school communication) LOL
Desmond Deshawn Cannon Jr there should always be someone watching over you. That is one of the concerns we are dealing with as we speak. But the key is to hold your ground for as long as you can. If you are doing tours, make sure someone knows.
US Veterans are awesome! If you live in a Democrat controlled state my advice is to be aware if admin is encouraging snitching. Admin does this to break staff morale. Some snitching is necessary. I'm talking about the snitching that is aimed at breaking morale.
