I had the same reaction. I was never a fan of the first movie, but without it, we may not have had the Cruise we have today. And the sequel was better in every possible way. Seems like nobody knows how to do FUN anymore. So refreshing. Thrills, drama, emotion, humor, nostalgia. Plus a real continuation of the story without any woke updates. Just a damn good time at the movies where you can forget about life for 2 hours. I just hope Cruise gets the recognition he deserves as a FILMMAKER at some point. He may not be behind the camera, but he's absorbed so much over the years and has such an uncanny instinct for choosing the right people to be involved in his projects
What I love about Flick Pick's first reaction videos is not only his review but the moments he gets lost leaving the theater. 🤣 But seriously, love your channels John.
2 things I had an issue with was Ed Harris I thought he was going to be the villan but only shows up for 5 minutes And they could have extended the backstory for the love interest
I can’t wait to see it, I’m seeing it either Friday or Saturday. I’m a big fan of aerial action and aerial cinematography and that’s one of the main reasons I’m PSYCHED for this film!!!!! The other being that I’m a Top Gun fan.🙌🔥🙌🔥🙌🔥
Seeing it with my Dad next week on Saturday. I honestly can’t wait to do so either. From everything I’ve seen so far this film is going to dominate at the box office.
It probably won’t given that people are still going to be watching Doctor Strange 2 especially the kids who know nothing about Top Gun but I hope it at least does well at the Box Office
I saw a late night showing in London, UK. It really is a love letter to 80s film and cinema. The music and soft melody leading to the Danger Zone song at the beginning will bring a tear to your eye. The movie has everything. A fantastic pace, great story telling and heals the pain from the first. Tom Cruise has defeated any concept that cinema is dead. This movie needs to be experienced in the theater. Glad you visited Regal. They use laser projectors which are vastly superior to rival cineplexes.
Very satisfying sequel to an original film I still really enjoy to this day. Had my screening for the movie tonight as well and it was definitely worth the wait. Great reactions as always, John.
The perfect sequel. *(mild spoiler ahead)* I love how it didn't fall into the formulaic garbage of killing off all or almost all (or even one) of the ensemble characters. In that regard, it wasn't just unformulaic-- it allowed Maverick to have the ultimate victory.
Awesome news. Can't wait to see it. Was afraid to click on this in fear it would disappoint even when your thumbnail had you with a big smiley face lol.
I've walked out of the wrong door in a mall. Several times actually! I haven't seen it yet, it might not be out in the UK, but I'm on holiday this week so I'll catch it when I get back
Only way the movie could have been better is if rooster yelled great balls of fire in the scene that we all were hoping it would happen. Also Maverick needed to say I feel the need the need for speed.
The opening sequence and first 20~30 minutes is basically a rehash of the original. But with a homage sequence to The Right Stuff added in. The movie took off for me when Maverick visits a certain character at home. The mission (this is basically a Mission Impossible movie. But with fighter jets. 😆😁👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼) and dogfighting sequences blow the original out of the water! TGM feels more grounded and has emotional depth. Easily better than TG'86.
Watched the movie 5 times now lol 2 times imax laser cinema (the best experience ) 1 time 4dx (wow fun and cool experience ) love it 1 time dolby atmos cinema (the sound much better than other experience ) 1 time screen x i loved the extra scenes on the side but i prefer 4dx i love this movie 9.5/10
I watched this today, the only "negative" I had was when they acquired F14, those sequences seemed pretty unrealistic and unlikely to happen. Otherwise it was a visually stunning film to watch and entertaining for the most part.
@@theFLICKpick picture and sound is great though and awesome atmosphere to see a packed summer movie in. Top Gun Maverick is one of my favorite theater experiences there. Did that mall theater have an IMAX? What city was that in?
John instead of saying repeatedly "this movie" why don't you actually use the title of the film, as it gets so annoying and grating at how many times you say "this movie" 🥴 I am very glad that you enjoyed the film and I have waited 36 years for this as I saw the original in the cinema with my Dad and it was the first and last film we saw at the cinema togetherand alone for any passed away in 2003 from cancer and he was a fighter pilot in World War 2 so this is very nostalgic forfor me and you've pump me up more but sadly I can't go and see it on opening day here in Australia which is 2 days from now because I've come down with covid-19 and have to self isolate until next Monday. 🤒😷 Thank you for making this quickiereaction video and I will look forward to your full review which hopefully comes really quickly cos I'd love to watch it before I go and see the movie and while I'm in isolation 😁 Cheers - Krazy Kajeevie 😁🍸🇦🇺
@@theFLICKpickBut saying "movie" gratings 500 times isn't repetitive!!? 🤣🤣🤣 No John, go back and listen to your reviews, you say "the movie" or "this movie" 1,000 f'king times per video!! It's so horrendously bad bro. It takes your viewers out if your reviews, excuse its so distracting. Your reply was really disappointing. You took the arrogant road and dismissed my entire comment, including what Top Gun meant to me and not to mention my valid complaint, which I've seeming of your subs also mention in the comments section over the years. A good one was "If you take a shot every time John says "movie" you'd be dead of alcohol poisining five minute's in." You can sa:y "film" or the title or not even mention it's a film, movie or title, as we know what film you're talking about. Or you can say "And here we have Christian Bale" instead of "In this movie we have Christian Bale" as an example. If you really believe I'm wrong then playback this Top Gun first film reaction video live and every time you say the word "movie" you have to take a shot live on air and let's see how far you get without one of your audience members having to call you an ambulance!! So put your money/health where your mouth is!!
My only negative was that you would think post-JohnnyDepp we would get past the tired theme that female characters abuse male protagonists then inevitably become the irresistible love interest.
I won't spend a single dime to support Scientology and its abuses. Cruise stands to make millions more from the box office. He's a crazed nut. IDGAF how "good" the movie is.
I’m OVER Cruise & hoorah military movies. I frankly didn’t like the original, at the time. So when he says it provides fan service, I’ve got to roll my eyes, having never been a fan of it in the first place. I will eventually see it, as I do nearly everything, but probably once it gets to HBO or wherever it ends up, many months from now
@@dafttool welp they were trying to reach the audience which was the fans of the original movie, if you don’t like Cruise and his movies then good for you.
The plot was cringe. The diversity cast was super cringe. The acting from the diversity cast was even more cringe. The writing was cringe. The flying was entertaining. If the original was a 12 and it was, this was a 1.
