Top Gun Movie House & our Oceanside Christmas fun 

when I was in boot camp in San Diego my company commander told me a section of the road we were marching on was used in the chase scene when cruise chased Kelly Mcgillis in the movie

Thank you for sharing it Oceanside looks nothing like it did when I was a young Marine station there back in 1975, I took my whole family there in 2000 it had changed so much that I did not know it. Semper Fi to all of the Marines who are watching this. I am sure that they will enjoy it also.

As an old Marine, we would call Oceanside oceanslime back in the day. Boots would roam Hill street looking for a good time. I truly had some good times there. One find memory was when my roommate wore spandex shorts, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to the Oceanside beach in a daring move to show that Montana cowboys can have fun at the beach

I used to live in Fallbrook for 3 years and went to Oceanside all the time!! My aunt lives there now and we still go there to visit her. Love Oceanside

What a fun Christmas. So good to see Sarah again (wait, is this a History Hunter episdoe?) I agree that it was a shame that they moved the Top Gun house and it does look out of place surrounded by a hotel, but it sounds like the alternative was complete demolition so I guess the better alternative is to survive in a different location. Thanks for the great video.

I had an aunt and uncle that lived in San Marcos for many years off of the 78. Passed by Oceanside many times and never knew any history there other than there’s a lot of Marines from Camp Pendleton in the area. It was a wet and cold Christmas here and glad you got to spend it with you son.

Always loved Oceanside......went there often when I was a teen...loved their beaches ⛱glad you got to experience a beautiful place...

I was blessed to live in Oceanside in 2009-2011. That was the best time and I love Oceanside so much! Thank you for sharing this beautiful place. I moved to Bonsall, Then Fallbrook and Ramona. There is so many historical things to learn in this area. Your son Loves it there and I’ve never seen him happier in all the other places he has been on history hunters. I love that you guys get to experience San Diego! La Jolla is so cool for wildlife. One of my favorite places to go.

My dad was stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton's. Dad and mom lived in a house on the beach in Oceanside, CA in the mid 1950's

Brought back many, many memories. When first I saw Oceanside ,California it was in 1960. The last time was in 1968. The first real Mexican food I ever had was in Oceanside ,California. The first cruise liner I was on. We started our journey up the road at camp Pendleton. There were 34 Total Pacific cruises. Oceanside did not look the same as it does today. If the bus terminals could talk! If the restaurants and taverns could bring back those that passed through!I remember many; sadly!

Sorry I missed you guys. I live in Oceanside, and was around the peir about the same time you were. The harbor is a special place for me, as my dad built that light house., and worked on the village as well. He passed away in 1978. When I was 4 years old, he took me up to the balcony before it was opened to the public. Speciall memories. Thanks for nor bringing up a certain tv show that is filmed here, as I think it brings a worse image to our community. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Happy New Year.

Was just visiting Oceanside over the Christmas holiday too, from North Carolina! A neat area with plenty of history - including Mission San Luis Rey and others. A place where I used to live. Boomers is a favorite. Thanks for sharing!

My mom rented a garage-turned-studio apt in La Jolla. We spent the summer there and swam at the childrens pool and shores often. Spent teen years surfing Black’s and in Oceanside. Great episode. The sea wall is looking a little rough these days.

I had heard the house was going to be moved but I wasn't sure if it actually had happened. Strange to think of it as an ice cream parlor. Seems it would have been good as Top Gun museum. It does look a little strange in that location. Interesting history on Stapp. Surfing on Christmas sounds like a perfect way to spend the day. That's something I haven't done in awhile being landlocked in Oklahoma but I do love it!

I was hoping for a reenactment of the scene where Mav rides his red Ninja motorcycle from the flight line/base to “Charlie’s” beachfront cottage (but played by Jeff this time)! However, being Christmas, it was much safer to leave this “idea” for another day! 😆 That Pelican was so beautiful! I never realized California had their own Pelicans!

I lived in Oceanside in the 80s. Don't think I would mess with that Pelican! I used to Bicycle race train from Oceanside to La Jolla aboût 4 days a week. About 60 miles round trip day. Lots of runners along the way. You would love it Jeff. Sarah would love walking some of it.

Great video guys! Like you, I too am fascinated by movie filming sites, but it's really unfortunate they had to move it. The location is a good part of the appeal, and the film house, moved a half mile away, restored, and turned into and ice cream parlor takes away a huge percentage of the interest. I guess it is better than having it destroyed, but only a little bit better. "Top Gun" was a strange movie. When it came out I was 24, and I thought it was one of the coolest films ever made. Now when I see clips from it, I absolutely cringe. So hokey. I guess that goes with growing older.

Sorry I missed you guys. I live in Oceanside and was at the harbor about the same you guys were here. At the north end of the harbor there's some docks that seal's hang out at. The whole area has changed so much. On the 78 once you passed the hospital, the pavement ended and was a dirt road all the way to Escondido. Anyway love your channel, hope to run into you guys the next time you are in town.
