Thanks for the video. It was very informative. I have researched a lot about the province and I had never came across the "couple of days without electricity" bit, so thanks for providing that information. Certainly did not expect that. Also, I like the way you explain things... real talk. It's like you are giving advice to a friend. Keep it up and looking forward for more videos x

@Joan Salter I get it. We moved from 30 mins to downtown Ottawa to very rural Cape Breton. We would have 4-6 power outages a year and sometimes for 1-2 days here we've had one for 2 hours in the same time. So I'll gladly enjoy the CB beauty, quiet life, fabulous people and just a better life in general.

I've lived in Nova Scotia 4.5 years and the nature/wildlife is beautiful but it's infested with ticks. At least in the valley. And I waited 4 years to get a family doctor. The doctor shortage here is crazy. I also saw somebody comment saying they lived here years without power shortages and I get them all the time. During Hurricane Dorian I was without power 6 days. I like NS. Very beautiful and I feel safe raising my children here.

Good advice. I moved to Nova Scotia from the "GTA" (Toronto area) last summer. All in all, a good choice. I'm a retiree with enough to get by on. The quieter lifestyle fits me, too. Health care awful. A Family doctor as rare as a unicorn. Long, long waits in a Emergency Room the only option. Serious stuff is dealt with, eg traffic accidents etc., but the scary thing is the little things can turn out to be scary. Sometimes wonder whom will meet first. My own doctor or my own undertaker.

I'm originally from Halifax, but moved to Western Newfoundland in 2008 for employment reasons. While Halifax does have a family doctor shortage, its actually worse in Corner Brook as roughly 20% of their population don't have a Family Physician and its getting worse every day while the Newfoundland and Labrador Government don't seem to care. In other words, if you need to get a prescription filled, you have to see a Nurse Practitioner whom will charge a fee or wait 6-8 hours at an outpatient clinic which is also understaffed. Since nearly 1/2 of Corner Brook's population are either senior citizens or low income earners, its a disgrace when many of them don't have a Family Doctor.
@cofeebeing
@cofeebeing 2 года назад
@@HalifaxHercules Nearly unbelievable. Newfoundland Health Care. Expect if living in a poor third world country. Not in 2021 and not in Canada. Proves the difference between a professional politician and a genuine public servant. Yet over 60% of our income is taken in various taxes. Proud Canadian? Why would that be?

Calgary is much better. Calgary has the fastest growing tech, finance and film industry. Many Hollywood companies are filming moving in Calgary because of its proximity to mountain 🏔, skyline 🏙 and lakes all they need. Calgary is also world’s cleanest and most livable city. Cons: 1)Nova Scotia hates job creation. They boycott anything that will bring work to the province. They would rather you live in poverty working a seasonal minimum wage job in the tourism and hospitality sector. 2)No doctors... Don't move here if you have any chronic health issues, you won't get a family doctor, doctors are overworked so don't expect help with your health issues even if you do have a doctor 3)High income tax 4)Gas is more 5)Fruits and Vegetables cost excessively more. Milk costs more. 6)95 percent of roads will destroy your car 7)Electricity is terrible at best and the cost is one of the highest in Canada 8)Heating is mostly electricity or wood (very$$) 9)Good internet is sparsely available 10) Shopping outside of Halifax sucks 11) shopping local will cost you an arm and a leg 12) prices are geared towards rich tourists and not the local population that is struggling to get by because the vast majority of jobs outside of Halifax are seasonal. 13) everything the government does is geared towards retirees Pros: it's pretty to look at and there is lobster I love it in Nova Scotia. I grew up here, all of my family is from here but I can't believe how the province has changed since I last lived here. I don't remember it being like this and I was heartbroken when I moved back to find what a terrible state the province is in.... The way people boycott things here, makes me think we should just evacuate the entire province, turn it into one giant national park and don't allow anyone to disturb it because heaven forbid someone step on the wrong plant or look at a sandpiper the wrong way... If you are independently wealthy and have no need of a job, or health care, and plan on living in Halifax... Then by all means, move to Nova Scotia

I note that these videos leave out a lot of the nitty gritty, and not so pleasant, details about Nova Scotia. Firstly, it's a colossal mistake to idealize any location, thinking it will miraculously solve all your problems. Living in NS comes with its own challenges and problems, just like everywhere else. The number one NS myth: the kindest people in Canada. I'm from Roberts Creek, BC, and the people were far nicer there. Nova Scotians are polite, but they are a tight-knit group, and the social/cultural divide is really quite massive...as you'll discover if you move here. NS has the worst rates of human trafficking in Canada, so it's not all smiles and lobster dinners, folks. Housing is inexpensive relative to other provinces, but the majority of it is very old and dilapidated. If you don't live in an urban setting, you are on a well/septic system. Most housing is not up to code here, and would be condemned elsewhere, so don't think that that hundred year old house is a bargain at $175K. As well, housing is densely packed, even in the country, and within a few meters of a road almost 100% of the time. Relative to BC the landscape/nature is monotonous, hard to access, and there are surprisingly few areas where you can access the sea. By the way, ticks are a massive issue here. I can easily pick up three or four ticks just by walking for a few minutes on my property. If your mission is to be impoverished, you will easily achieve that aim in NS, as the job market is functionally non existent relative to BCs, and the pay is just a fraction of what you'd receive elsewhere for identical work. The price of food and alcohol is higher here than in BC. Most houses are heated wit an oil fired boiler, so you can go broke just on heating bills alone. Health care is non existent, and the way of life isn't slower; it's prehistoric. Lots of people are on welfare. We moved here last June, and are eager to leave. What's it like living here? It feels hopeless, with a leaden certainty that you've reached the end of life's road. Seriously, if you think this place is an answer to life's problems, you really have to be more honest with the questions you've been asking yourself, because it's not great here.

Halifax used to be one of the cheapest cities in Canada to live, especially its outer city and suburban areas, but now becoming one of Canada's most expensive. These days, an average monthly rent for a two bedroom apartment in Halifax is equivalent to renting 2 or three of them in Corner Brook. In fact, as a Halifax native now living in Western Newfoundland, I notice that most two bedroom apartments in Corner Brook are less than $1,000 a month plus utilities.
