I can’t believe this is the list that started the whole weapons month craze. It’s still a good list, but so many games have come out in the 5+ years since it’s been released, and your quality has improved so much. You should honestly do a “remake” of sorts of the entire first weapons month: redoing the old lists, seeing how your opinions have changed and if there are any new characters who make the cut. And with lists like sword wielders, there were just so many choices that I’m sure you have more to talk about
Interesting thing about Marluxia's scythe wielding is that his twirling seems to have more of an actual function than other kingdom hearts characters. He almost never touches it with his left hand, which would make more sense to stabilize the weapon, but instead he seems to use his body's torque to power his swings.
Here's a little fun fact for ya. Back when Final Fantasy 7 was still in development, Vincent Valentine was originally going to wield a scythe as his choice of weapon. But for unknown reasons, this idea was scrapped and they gave him a gun instead. But had Square Enix decided to stick with that idea for the final game, there's a good chance Vincent could have made it into this list.
Scyther is also incredibly precise. There's a manga scene where a character wants to make a paper garland so he seeks out a wild Scyther and asks it to cut the paper. Now, being wild it may have never even seen paper before, but it cuts everything perfectly by tossing it in the air and slicing everywhere. Behold, perfectly sliced paper to fold into rings! Imagine what a trained one could do!
You mentioned that Margret's scythes are also rifles. I know she's not a character in a video game, but there's a webseries called RWBY. The main heroine of RWBY is a young girl named Ruby Rose, whose main weapon is a scythe that also doubles as a rifle!
lol that was my first thought too. I was just like "Holy shit that's like Ruby and her crescent rose!" but then when I finished my initial thought was "Wait where's Ruby she should be on here!" only then did I notice the date. And yes I think she would count even if she wasn't originally a videogame character.
I would've put Death from Darksiders on this list. Not only does he dual wield a pair of scythes, he also carries them in an underhanded position and can also combine the two into one huge scythe for a series of combos.
I do agree with you that both Haseo and Skeith`s form in the G.U series uses a scythe, but the class that Haseo uses in the game is not only Flick Reaper. Haseo is an Adept Rogue user, which means he can wield 3 and 4 weapons. Not only do Haseo use a scythe, but he also uses a pair of twin blades, a heavy sword and guns as well.
Thank you for saying Zasalamel, before you got to 1 I was thinking, "he be trolling". Zasalamel to me is the peak of scythe fighters, witnessed through actual gameplay. I wish he was in 5.
Seriously, you make a top 10 about scythe wilders and you don't mencion dante from dmc, the other dante from dante's inferno, and not even death frm darksiders 2, are you out of your fricking mind??!?!?!?!?
hurray finally some marluxia love seriously its amazing how many people seem to dislike him with the main reason being his pink hair and flowers excuse my langauge but who the fuck cares marluxia is very very unique for a villain especially in kingdom hearts since ansem seeker of darkness and xemnas were pretty much carbon copys when it came to personality and motivation while marluxia was just unique i loved him and trust i know how its like being mistaken for a girl seriously i even try to purposely deepen my voice so people can tell im a guy but they still keep thinking im a girl annoying lol great list loved keep up the good work
As i saw that Margaret was Number 3 and Zasalamel was Number 2, i said to myself "Number 1 better be good", and DUDE! You did it, it was better. And i mean, Zasalamel is like one of my favorite characters, but you really put someone at the first place who really deserves it.
Just to anyone that is reading this: The scyther is not just for get riddle of the not wanted plants, BUT even more importantly, the crops: Yes, as can finish a growing cycle, it also claims the products of a honest work, and so can be used and give to feed with its products. So just to be precise, its also say in the bible: "That let the weed and the gran grow; compile the weed together and burn it, but put the grain by my barn" Consult the bible itself for the EXACT WORDS, i am just PARAPHRASING what it say There to be clear. So i as hard working at its is, it is the most honest work of its uses that can provide a true view of the more benevolent state that can be consider of this fast, precise, endure tool of going to life in this case: The recollector of life products and the watcher of the field's course to life, services of but cutting and recollection to understand of the soil's growing and evolving
The thing about the scythe was that it was used to harvest crops that were ready. In the same way scythes were used to signify one's time was complete and that he is ready to be called upon.
In China, the scythe also might called the sickle are also used as weapon for farmers against bandits. The farmers might also use the trident, bo, meat cleaver, and many others use to fight bandits. They also fought against government official as well.
I understand I put a lot of League of Legends here, but here's the thing. Either I stop putting League characters and have people complain to me about not picking an obvious choice, or continue with the League characters and have people complain that I like LoL too much...I think I prefer the latter.
I kind of hoped to see Arumat from Star Ocean the last hope. I mean, he has a laser scythe, with 4 blades, that can be used as boomerangs,a lot of his moves are really cool AND his full name contains the name of a greek personafication of death(Arumat P. Thanatos).
Frédérique Gervais finally someone mentioned him, I was just scrolling through the comments to see if anyone had, cause if not I was pretty much gonna say what you just said
Great video, I love top tens that cover weapons in gaming, and the scythe is possibly the coolest in gaming, and my favorite scythe wielder in all of gaming would have to be Killer/Erase Man from Mega Man Battle Network 6: Cybeast gregar. I love the design, the fight, the character, and Killer/Erase Cross.
I've been watching the green scorpion videos, and i notice that he have not mucho knowlage of the vast amount of video games out there. i've seen NMH at least in 4 tops, LoL in 5 tops, Random FF game in at least 6 tops, Soulcalibur in at least 3. Scythes missed in this video: Dante - Dante's Inferno Testament- Gulty Gear Jedah- Vampire Savior Death- Darksiders (only from games of 2012 or before) Don't mind to me. In fact, i really like the way Green Scorpion narrate his videos, i really like his voice (no homo). i think that with a little more information he would be one of the greats.
he has wielded 2 weapons that can turn into scythes, Sparda from the first game turns into a scythe when you use the sword as a boomerang, and in the 3rd game the weapon Nevan can flip open turning from a V-guitar to a really sick scythe with fang like spikes in place of a blade
Pretty good list, here's a few Scythe wielders that I personally like: Akechi Mitsuhide (Sengoku Basara) Haseo/Skeith (.hack//G.U.) Arumat (Star Ocean The Last Hope) Dante (Dante's Inferno)
Fiddlesticks never really used his scythe in game which is really lame Also if you were to remake this list today, the upcoming champion Kayn might rank pretty high!
I was actually hoping for Marluxia to be on this list, but I didn't think he would get as high as he did. Then I heard your explanation, and it made sense. Good list!
Yes, because in the original epic, Dante fought hell's residents with Death's Scythe, used magic spells, and was a shirtless knight who was fighting through Hell to rescue his beloved from the Devil. Seriously, Dante's Inferno is based on the Divine Comedy, but it follows it very loosely (it has some characters and uses the nine circles of Hell). The game and the epic are two VERY different things.
I would like to think that Lady Harken from the first Wild Arms would've gotten at least an honorable mention on this list. She was one of the four Quarter Knights and knew how to wield her scythe in a manner that would decimate her enemies.
It still doesn't change the fact that it's still the same Dante from the original Divine Comedy. It doesn't matter how different they are, it's still the same character, and at it's core, it's still the same epic, just one is told in a different light than the other. No matter how you dice it, it's still the same character from the same story.
I got here from a link on Kayn's trivia page on the League of Legends Wiki. When you consider what a huge LOL fan The Green Scorpion is that makes it pretty goddamn awesome!
Watching this after a few years. . . This was for a 500 sub special. Boy, how far you’ve come. Plus, these weapons month vids are still inspiring for the imagination. I still like watching these after all this time :D
I quite liked DJ from the death jr games on the psp. He used his scythe to go along zipwires and even swung it around like a propellor to slow down his fall and jump further.
Not a character, but a scythe itself is in my top 5. Apocalypse from Final Fantasy 11. This scythe when it was first introduced was incredibly overpowered. It had a special weapon skill that gave its' wielder almost 100% attack speed, meaning with the right set of gear, you would attack faster than the animation was intended, so it would just swing around randomly.
Where's Dante from Dante's inferno Where's Dante from DMC Where's death from dark siders Where's Ryu Hyabusa ( in list ) Though smart move putting Marluxia in the list, he's actually really cool but gets allot of hate because of hair and flowers.
You are right but if you remember what vulgrim told War in the first game "Some may say that samael's powers rivaled the ones of the devil himself" or something like that
Touche. Hmmmm..... You do raise a good counterpoint. I got nothing. I tip my hat to you good sir. For you have won this debate of scythes and warriors.
rw:hold it! margaret isn't the only girl who can wield 2 scythes there is one girl from the Senran Kagura series who does wield 2 scythes her name is : shiki
curious but...why does scyther get a spot but not Ryu Hayabusa? i mean...i wouldnt really call scyther's arms scythes to begin with...just arm blades. Fiddlesticks uses a sickle and although sickles and scythes are very similar, they arent the same thing. yes yes "it's his list, if you don't like it do your own" ive heard it before...but i'm still awefully curious as to why he picked some of his options since imo he didn't exactly break down on what his guidelines were which i find most other people who do top 10s do
The scythe was said to be so sharp that it would rip out the souls of whom ever was cut... that is why Death is given a scythe, because he would cut the souls out of people and ( while the soul was trapped on the blade) take them to hell ( or heaven).
Its a shame that shovel knight specter of torment wasn't out by the time you made this video. Because I think specter knight easily deserves a spot on this list.
I don't know if you noticed but Death fights appear to be at Clock tower a lot, time again. Another one I like a lot is Gundam Deathscythe, but Gundam isn't a video game character so I can't wish....
What a shame Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen wasn't out this time last year. The Scythe wielder is Death and he literally stalks you through Bitterblack Isle. You encounter him multiple times through the Isle and he's so tough to beat you can't kill him in 1 fight and it takes several encounters. And of course fighting him is difficult and it's better to run away before he puts your party to sleep and 1 shots you a large arc attack from his scythe.
I was really hoping to see 'Gig' from Soul Nomad and the World eaters. You don't get to see it often, but when he uses his scythe, he more or less destroys whatever he hits.
