These video games are bad, horrible, and terrible... and that makes them actually kinda good. -------------------------------- NEW COUNTDOWNS EVERY 1st and 15th! Patreon / joshscorcher Twitter / joshscorcher
Oddly enough, that Shaq Fu DLC summarizes the entire focus of this countdown. I mean, here are my reactions: Shaq Fu: Eh, it’s a thing. Sucks, but I don’t care. Legend Reborn: Oh... Rabbidluigi mentioned there was a kickstarter in an old countdown, but now it’s right there on the shelf in front of me. This is real... Obama fighting Kanye West in Space: Completely ridiculous. I gotta watch.
Ah yes, Shadow the Hedgehog. Definitely one of my guilty pleasures from this, though I truly believe the things I like are good things. Namely, my major point: I like the guns. The edginess that brought them in sucks, but the guns as a mechanic aren’t a bad idea. While it needed to be more refined, and possibly tweaked to compliment the high speed a Sonic game should have (Black Knight had that idea down with its swordplay), what we got was certainly functional enough to show the potential. Also, the...swearing. Honestly, I don’t mind. Why? Because Shadow and his voice actor actually pull it off in my opinion. At the very least, they sound natural coming from Shadow. That’s the weird thing about the edginess: Shadow the Hedgehog himself pulls it off, but he’s the only part of the entire game that pulls it off.
I think there should have only been 3 endings: Evil ending: where you fight sonic and Diablon ( anyone else like that things design). Neutral ending: fight Eggman. True ending: fight black doom. The question then lies on how to best achieve these endings. Maybe include an undertaker esque morality system based on what enemies you kill? Thoughts?
Games on this list that are unironically enjoyable imo: - Shadow the Hedgehog - Pepsiman (agreed tho, hard af) - Superman 64 (once you look past the bad controls, it's fine tbh) - Big Rigs (idk why, but everytime I boot this game up I always get a good laugh out of it)
“Look! Up in the sky!” “It’s a bird!” “It’s a plane! It’s-“ “SUPERMAN 64!!!!” *cricket chirps intensifies* “..... I liked it...” To be fair, that was absolutely precious!
Ya know, there was a CD-i at my grandparents' house. And yes, "Wand of Gamelon" was there. I first saw the cutscenes of THAT game back in 1994, when I was three years old. Imagine what those cutscenes would look like to a three-year-old.
Also Deadly Premonition is a masterpiece and I’ll fight you on that. My boyfriend and I played it together and it was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time because there were times I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pee myself
He even had the audacity to say it looked worse than the Silent Hill HD collection, a pathetic excuse of a remaster that used completely unfinished versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3 that had more technical, graphical, and fundamental issues and gaffs all made into a barely functional and artistically bastardized abortion of a remastering with idiosyncrasies of such poor quality, taste, use, and execution that it's legendary. In stark contrast, Deadly Premonition for all its faults was at least technically playable, stable, and made with care, and that's not getting into the story, characters, and setting whose quirks are more appealing and entertaining than one would have anticipated.
Deadly Premonition looks like a PS2 game because it WAS a PS2 game that went through development hell only to get hastily put onto then-current gen consoles when it was rescued. The game wasn't even going to have combat in it, but the publisher forced it in.
Shadow the Hedgehog would have been the most perfect game for me to play when I was 10. I was so much of an edge lord in those days that I dressed as Billie Joe Armstrong for Halloween one year.
I recently got (the PS2) Shadow the Hedgehog from a book sale not too long ago (after selling my Gamecube version years ago). I can agree that it may not be perfect looking at it now, but it is fun.
That number 6 segment is my mood. Shadow the Hedgehog is a guilty pleasure that I will never be guilty of. I actually went through and got all the A Ranks to unlock the final challenge and completed it. Another thing is that it actually has a Multiplayer mode that's fun to just goof around in. It certainly oozes the edge factor, but that's something I enjoy about it, and Shadow's the only one that could pull it off. Always gonna be a favorite of mine.
1:10 10: Too Human Me: A rage game? 3:00 09: Shaq Fu Me: So 3x things that may not work together, but work for hilarity purposes. I only understand the mummy part of the joke cause it’s dead. 4:38 08: Deadly Premonition Me: Sounds awesome but it doesn’t have the awesomeness built into the mechanics. 7:06 07: Zelda CDI Me: I’m not knowledgeable about everything Zelda related, but I know that the movements are pretty shitty 9:37 06: Shadow The Hedgehog Me: So, a Sonic game for edgy emos 11:59 05: Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties Me: So a game with stock images 13:33 04: Phoenix Games Me: Do I smell plagiarism + rip-offs? Nah, they’re bootlegs 15:10 03: PepsiMan Me: So a playable advertisement for Pepsi soda, no thank you, I’ll stick with my Sprite. *Opens a can of Sprite* don’t need a soda shoved down my throat, I prefer to try things on my own thank you very much *Takes a drink of my Sprite* ahh, refreshing. Tell me what carbonated soft drink you prefer. 18:00 02: Superman 64 Me: I’ve seen this gameplay many times before, it’s nothing new or fun for me to play. It may be fun for a first time player, but it gets stale very quickly and now you see it’s not a original game because the game mechanics are the same but with a DC superhero slapped on the cover with a console number on it. Here’s a bad game I remember playing in my youth, Mario 64, the character clipped through the solid objects and the 3D affects weren’t all that great, you had to mess with the controller a few times before you reach the top of an object that is very tall. 20:00 01: Big Rigs Me: So, an animal simulator game? [Extra reactions] 5:00 I’m with you on this one, like, how can milk in coffee tell that something will change someone’s fate? 12:49 The fuck? Yeah, that is racist. Like really racist. With a capital R-A-C-I-S-T. 18:09 Person 1: Look! Up in the sky Person 2: It’s a bird! Person 3: It’s a plane! Person 4: It’s- Josh: Superman 64 *Cricket chirps* Nappa: I get it Vegta: Shut it Nappa Josh: I liked it Me: Yeah, that’s right I’ve heard that joke over and over again. Gee, it’s swell to finally hear a brand new joke. That’s right I heard that same joke, don’t really like how it ends. Gee it’s swell to finally hear a brand new joke *covers my mouth* 22:50
i actually enjoyed shadow the hedgehog game. while i didn't play through every ending i still enjoyed it. shadow was awesome, and the gameplay was fun occationally.
"Maybe it's behind that UZI YOU NEED TO PUMP FOR SOME REASON?!" *Adjusts anime glasses and smirks* ACTUALLY Josh that isn't a mistake in gun choice. There are actual Pump Action Rifles out in the world and that is one of them in Shadow's grip. Sorry to ruin the ongoing joke within the fandom.
Got to love bad games. They are great to laugh at with friends. I will admit, the only thing about Okami I really hate are the blockheads and how the Wii remote likes to glitch out when I try drawing the required shapes for the painting spells. Other than that, it was alright. I love other games like the Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm series, Age of Empires series, the Aveyond series, Don't Starve Together, Oxygen Not Included, Onmyoji Arena, and Skyrim A LOT more than I like Okami. Okami was more of a meh and a time killer back when I used to get grounded from the computer or when I got sick. This was before the Wii lost all support and wouldn't allow you to even access RU-vid or NETFLIX because of the device no longer receiving updates.
a friend of mine defines a fun game as one that will have him comeing back to time and time again for nothing but fun, even if the game is bad the important thing is having fun with it
Not gonna lie, Pepsiman actually looks like an interesting game I might try out on a blue moon. Also why didn't I see that #1 coming? I still remember Johnny's review of that game. He was the one to introduce to that.
10: Have you ever kill a respected company by making a shitty game? Several companies did. 9: Robin Williams-Fu, U2-Fu, BioSHAQ In-FU-NIT. 8: Well, you might think Twin Peaks: The Game with PS2 graphics is polarizing, and then there's Yooka-Laylee. 7: "Oh boy! I can't wait to bomb some ProJareds!" That line is going to age, soon. 6: The edge on where it hurts. 5: TAKE YER DAMN COLESLAW 4: Alright, where's that Caddy fellow, he's gonna slap the shit outta you. 3: Our lord & savior. A fun note that Pepsiman had an unused level editor. 2: There are no good Superman games. The only good games that feature Superman are ones that didn't star as him. 1: Going backwards to infinity, but letting go depending on the ridiculous speed will stop you on a dime.
I have no idea who you are, I've never watched any of your videos or heard of you, but because of this video, I know that as sure as hell I am subscribing.
19:23-19:34 I remember two glitches when I played this game as a kid; 1. In training mode i beat up a couple a thugs and toss their car in to the lake/ocean. As it exploded in the water, I thought what would happen if I manage to get to the car just before it exploded. When i raced underwater just as i was in range of the explosion, i was transported to a void of a grey texure floor and an endless white light by the horizon. 2.In a mission i had to find my way to to upper room in lex's tower and by accident i flew into one of the pictures and was stuck in a black abyss with nothing but superman and the sound of splashing when im flying around nothing.
Note that the video featured at 17:16 IS tool-assisted, but basically for Pepsiman amounts to an all items collected speedrun of the game. The tool-assisted speedrun that obsoleted this one on TASVideos, which takes advantage of a bug that can let Pepsiman clip into certain trucks, is here -> watch?v=wqMfCChUcmI
I’ll admit, Phoenix Games are good for the memes, but if I were you, I would never physically play it. Aside from the fact that their impossible to find nowadays, they can apparently crash your PS2 from overheating.
My Opinion 10: Duke Nukem Forever 9: Pepsi Man 8: Mario's Missing & Mario's Time Machine 7: Mass Effect Andromeda 6: Sonic 2006 5: Shaq Fu 4: Night Trap 3: Deadly Premontion 2: Phoenix Games 1: Link: The Faces Of Evil, Zelda: The Wand Of Gamelot, Zelda's Adventure & Hotel Mario
Fun fact: The boarding-through-San-Fransisco-type-town and truck chase scenes from City Escape in Sonic Adventure 2 were actually ripped straight from Pepsi Man.
You know, it's been years since I've drank Pepsi. Heck, I don't think I was even close to my preteens the last time I drank any of that stuff, and I'm 24 now! Maybe I should play catch-up.
Glab to hear a positive review of Shadow the Hedgehog. Not many people enjoy the game. I'm not saying they're supposed to, I just don't hear a lot of positivity.
I have to be honest, I was skeptical about watching one of your countdowns. Looking at your early stuff in comparison to say, 'Top Ten Educational Games', I kind of thought you'd lost your mojo. This proved me wrong. An excellent video that reminded me exactly why I loved your channel in the first place.
Had to get that okami joke in there somewhere, also on then topics of broken but fun games, how about stick fight the game, levels despawn, physics is a mere suggestion *you can jump with shotgun recoil,* and sometimes it gets so broken it skips levels so it doesn't crash
I'm honestly so glad you put Deadly Premonition on this list, because I know it's awful, but it's also amazing and I love it to pieces xD Also....was that JustAPancake??????
....I'm gonna be honest, my #1 pick for this list is sonic 06. That game is the greatest game of all time. Like, how The Room is the greatest film of all time.
The Legend of Zelda CDi game animation honestly doesn't look that strange for the time period. At least for American computer games. Then again, I *remember* in that time period.
Kinda funny how I knew 8 out of the 10 of these games, usually I don't know about as much with the games on these countdowns. IT was kinda fun with how many times I said "Oh no, it can't be THAT one.". Do have to admit I wish Shadow had some sort of way to just checkpoint your way through rather than expect a play through of every permutation. Also, what was that game used in the transistion countdowns? I was kinda expecting that one to pop up.
Josh, I don't kow if you've heard of it, but there's an alternate Dynasty Warriors series called Samurai Warriors. It's like Dynasty Warriors but in feudal Japan. Also Oversimplified and Extra Credit have done videos on the Three Kingdoms Period and you should check them out.
11:00 Well it's made by SEGA and so it obviously had a lot of effort put into it. While SEGA does sometimes bite off more than they can chew (Sonic 06) they always put a lot of effort into everything they do.
I would pay to watch a TV mini-series featuring the Deadly Premonitions car conversations. Also, that Groundhog Day poster implies that Shadow would be played by Bill Murray... and I'm strangely not against that.
Shadow The Hedgehog is great for those who can look past a game's flaws and enjoy what is there, which to me is the endings soundtrack, Almost Dead, All Hail Shadow, (forgot theme #3, been a while.) and the intro theme I Am (All of Me) was pure Crush 40 goodness, hell in Sonic Generations they played All Hail Shadow during the battle when you face Shadow back in time, showing how catchy that song was.
@@jjc4924 for me it was better than mediocre, and no i'm not an edgelord, i just appreciate that they tried to differentiate Shadow from Sonic, even if it in hindsight was probably the worst possible way. lol
The Gaming. Eh. Whatever. I do like the gun play; despite that it's inappropriate for Sonic, and I do like they fixed some control schemes, such as the Light Speed Dash being it's own seperate button instead of being the exact same button as the Spin Dash or Somersault and the Rail Grinding is much more fluided and responsive than being so arkward like in Adventure 2 & even Heroes ( Though 06 brought that back for no reason, but it returns it to Unleashed thankfully. ). Bu that's about it. The levels are bland, most of the mission structured & ways to get through other path is repetitive, fustrating & boring and the fact that you have to play the game 10× more to get the true ending is absurd and obnoxious. It's not the worst Sonic game ever. But I still don't think it's an good game either.
