Tornado Goes Straight Through Colorado Suburb!

On June 22, 2023 a tornado went through the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch. Fortunately this tornado did minimal damage and nobody was hurt. I also was stopped at an underpass, which is probably the WORST place to stop for a tornado. Don't do that people.

The number of people taking shelter in an underpass is concerning. Still quite one of the biggest myths going around.

Why is it bad?
@davidci
@davidci Год назад
@@hupo The smaller space of an underpass amplifies the wind speed of any passing tornado. Meaning you'll be more likely to get sucked out under it. If a tornado is barreling towards you and you are not able to outrun it, get out of the car and hide in a ditch, then lay as flat on the ground as possible.

Wow... that time-lapse was beautiful. That's crazy how close a tornado formed to the rocky mountains. (Especially in a densely populated city.) The large tornado, the day before in Akron, Colorado (filmed by Tony Laubach), had a satellite tornado spinning a half mile around the parent tornado under a huge collar cloud, and would have shredded cars like a cheese grater. It was on the ground for more than 40 minutes. Colorado can and does get big mesocyclone tornadoes, just not as many as Texas, fortunately.

They were crouched up as small as they could get at the highest place they could go.The wind was tremendous and they were very lucky that no objects were being thrown by it or the injuries would have been serious.
