I remember playing a siege battle with some friends in which I defended a castle. The game went fairly well for my opponents until they reached the last level that I was defending with katana samurai on one side and katana hero on the other. They threw so many units at the katana heros that at one point one of them, out of frustration, called the unit “the disco bouncers”. I found it so funny and laughed so hard, I immediately named my on-line unit with the same name. I ended up wining the battle, btw, because although my hero’s were depleted and wouldn’t have resisted indefinitely, one of the enemy players mis-clicked and fired whistling arrows on the melee.

It shown how weak the Ashigaru really is outside of Yari wall, but its the anti infantry hero unit anyway. They did good enough. I wonder how good they are against the Ikko monk Hero.

the best thing to counter elite units like this is archer. Small number of troop in elite unit make them very vulnurable to ranged units.

did you ever do a archer unit vs the same archer unit in loose formation it would be interesting to see if the results would be diverent over diverent total wars

Using spear wall and flanking, 3 ashigarus can very easily beat the hero (equivalent costs). Probably even 2 ashigarus is enough(with proper micro).

Shimazu Toyosa tryed doing something like this in battle of Sekigahara. He and a few his men as rearguard vs 2000(If I good remeber). They all dies, but hit enemy general (so he retreat with his men).

Katana Hero really just are built different.

I'd be curious how much unit fatigue is playing into the Shimazu losses, here. Like, if it were possible to have them rest to full between each unit of ashigaru, how many fewer men would they lose?

They use running soldier as meat shields. When they run, rest formations are disorder and hero can come close.

I still don't get why the spear units pull out their swords whenever they enter close combat

Katana Heroes are great and brave warriors in this game.

And that's why you should always bring a gun to a sword fight. Samurais fall in one ashigaru shot, hero or not.

What I am not liking in this comparison is where the ashigaru seem to be in a loose formation, and not using their numbers to win (or try to). I will say however that the other videos I have seen form this channel are really nice.

I mean it does not show the power of numbers right, cause you can just surround em and probably win (or do better). However fun as fuk anyways
