They carry the corpse of the horse and famous grail knights they served, and when they do this, they actually have magical property on the battlefield. Its pretty spiffy.

They are basically peasant fanboys (battle pilgrims) of a grail knight. Then that grail knight and his horse died so they picked him up and started carrying him to be his horse. If you think just these battle pilgrims are weird, check out the normal battle pilgrims at around 1:29 . They hold their shields upside down. Peasants are so difficult to train which is why normal men-at-arms have symmetrical shields so that they never hold them the wrong way around... no such luck for battle pilgrims because they scavenge their gear.

@Grim Looters Yea. And don't get me wrong I LOVE the bretonnia memes. Frankly I'd be disappointed if they made a tv show about it and there WASN'T a mustache twirling hoity toity french guy laughing at Sad peasents. But at the end of the day Bretonnia is the land of Chivalry and Honor. The reason it is called "FAIR Bretonnia" is because the knights literally devote their entire lives to driving out darkness from the lands in service to the Goddess of purity and honor. One of my favorite little quotes is "What is a Knight without his Steed? And indeed what is a steed without his knight? Knight and steed, on such noble foundations was bretonnia built!" What was it like one in 8 knights take the virtue of empathy? : ) I'll be honest, I didn't even know Warhammer existed until total war. And even then I was pissed because I like history WAY more than fantasy. But once I started getting used to it I bought the DLCs and I have to say Bretonnia was immediately my favorite. I started reading the lore and I loved it. Gotta admit I'm not a tabletop kind of guy but some of the stories in that too just blew me away. XD in the total war comments I asked who everyone thought would win in a wat between bretonnia and Empire and everyone was all "Empire Empire Empire Empire cuz guns and cannons" 😅 I dunno though. From my understanding the Bretonnian navy has way more guns and cannons than the Empire. And grail blessings do seem OP at least in lore. But then again I dont know as much as most about it. As for end times... 😅 gotta be honest I was dissapointed. Like if louens son just turned evil id be okay but something about the lady actually being Ariel or Lilieth (I think were the names) is off to me. I'm alright with her being a known god of the elves, heck i could even handle her being an elf herself, but something about her NOT being the lady is just wrong. Like yea they get to be guards of the elves but imagine being a crusader fighting for God and next thing you know budda is taking you to nirvana. 😅 just wasn't the same for me

They can afford to do this a a free because so many of the units are already done, the 2 you mentioned would take a lot more work and most likely very different mechanics. Also while Skaven are everywhere :) lizardmen are not really in the scope of this game (unless my memory fails me).

I think he means in terms of "High" fantasy rather than the medium to low levels elsewhere in the realms of man. I always got less of a grim or dark feeling from bretonia than other areas (unless you are a peasant of course in which case .... ) .

Is the Faye entranches and the lady the same person? The knight in this video was at a lake and then the Faye enchrantas appeared, so I am a little confused. I remember in the book, the fall of altdorf, mannfred and arkhan had Faye imprisoned. Meanwhile, the lady backed stabbed lounen Leon course by allowing the green knight to become king again. Then she sent louen and a handful of his knights on a suicide mission to fight nurgle in altdorf. So I thought the lady and Faye were two different people because Faye was imprisoned when the lady humiliated and killed louen leocourre

Never liked how they rewrote Bretonnia in 6th edition

i think i know how it happened that it went so far: GW Based Bretonnia on Arthurian Legends (lady of the lake, Green Knight etc.), Medieval England (longbowmen etc.) and Medieval France (knight stuff etc.)... so they more or less wanted to use it to cater to the english/british and French players with BRetonnia... and since GW themselves are english i guess there was a nice bit of national pride in it and therefore they transformed them into the "super good guys" yet other nations with overall darker themes ended up being more popular (i think i've read that the Emperor originaly was a drunkard etc.). Stuff got revamped... Bretonnia might've ended up not as popular and good selling as expected.. and GW than went: "Ok what's missing is grimdarkness... throw a wagon load on it"... and completely overdid it...

mhm... saw that also in the (later) Gotrek and Felix Books and the Thanquol books... i see myself ever more often to bet, after more or less all Characters have been introduced, which of the newly introduced characters that are the "good guys" (for example most of the Castle Reiksguard Garrison in Zombieslayer) will survive... i normaly say: none... and i'm mostly right... it makes the books a tad boring if you know that the characters they cant kill of survive and the rest dies...

undertakernumberone1 What irritated me the most about Gotrek and Felix was that they couldn't seem to decide if they wanted Felix to be a badass or not. He starts out weak but not pathetic in Trollslayer, then steadily gets better and better until he's a bonafide hero in his own right in Deamonslayer and Beast Slayer, who can reliably kill Chaos Warriors 1v1 and ain't afraid of no bloodthirster. The dwarfs even tell him that he's an amazing fighter, with one Dwarf in Deamonslayer saying that he didn't know humans could become as strong as him. Very high words of praise from one of the elder races. Then for no reason he starts backsliding towards mediocrity somewhere around Orcslayer. In Manslayer he is downright pathetic, struggling against common street thugs while Ulrika takes massive steaming crap after massive steaming crap all over him and his skills. Bear in mind at this point in the story this is a 45 year old man in the body of a 20 year old with more combat experience than most Dwarvish Greatbeards. He should be one of the best fighters in the Empire at this point, and hes helped kill a very powerful Vampire Lord, something Ulrika knows about, and yet she still talks to him like hes some kind weak scrub. It doesn't make any sense. Clearly it was done because they wanted Gotrek to be the designated badass, but really you can do both. and all it really did was throw his character development out the window 😬. It is a pity that they never went to Bretonnia.

It's telling that Orkslayer was the first book written by the second author of the series, while the original author stopped with the previous book.

She became the patron Goddess of Bretonnia in order to bring about a new breed of demi-gods, the Grail Knights, believing the greatest and most noble of human knights to be greater guardian spirits for her new realm than the Elves. Bretonnia was not a shield or cannon fodder for the elves, they were the foundation of a new realm made up of the spirits of the grail knights and damsels, protected against the evils of chaos.
