After a nearly two year absence from SoCal, the Radwood car show is back! Radwood is a period-correct celebration of all of the radical and fresh cars from the 1980s and 1990s. Instead of choosing one of the '80s/'90s cars from my fleet to take to the show, I just might have bought another Radwood-era machine!
This SoCal show was one of the largest Radwood events yet, and it was jam packed with all sorts of iconic vehicles and forgotten obscurities. One of the great things about Radwood is its inclusive nature-a pristine Ferrari Testarossa can be parked right next to a Toyota Corolla All-Trac, and people are equally excited to see both. Always great to talk to everyone and hear the unique stories behind their cars. Come join me and let's get raddddddd!

You have to appreciate everything in its place. Corolla has made the world go around for decades. And of course, if you see 4WD or Turbo you know it means business :D Even on the simplest car...

While I get why those in their 30s/40s like us are into these cars because of the warm fuzzy nostalgia factor... I'm FLOORED how many owners you interviewed who are much younger who love these cars as well! Thanks for another great video, this was a fantastic show and you had some ace coverage.

Yes, I know right! I'm a Gen X'er and figured other Gen X'ers would be the ones into cars of the 1980s and 1990s, but it's nice to see the younger generations embracing them too! I think many of these vehicles are still reasonably affordable, at least compared to things like a 1965 Mustang or 1969 Camaro or Charger, so it's a more affordable way to get into a classic car, which has the bonus of being more reliable and drivable as a daily driver.

@@reallyrandomrides1296 Yes! I think there's also a lot of 80s/90s shows out there that make the decades look really cool (like Stranger Things) so I wonder if there's some of that in play as well.

@@RetroCarsForever Could be the influence of 1980s and 1990s shows, combined with the affordability and better reliability of cars from the era. And, some people just want to drive something different and/or vintage. To someone born in the 1990s or 2000s, there's a good chance the car is older than they are. I remember older people saying 80s and 90s cars will never become classics like the 1950s and 1960s cars were. Well... just wait 25 or 30 years, and even the most ordinary econobox becomes cool and collectible. Give it another decade or so, and the people getting their driver's licenses this year will be lusting over the cool retro Toyota Prius!

@@reallyrandomrides1296 I was born in 1997 and besides my 1989 Nissan Sentra my other car is a 1998 Honda Accord LX as old as I am that I daily drive for pre Covid school and to work.

One of my best friends got a 1990 Pulsar NX for her 18th birthday/high school graduation in September (I think) of 1989. I grew up in Florida. It was such a fun car for that time and place. I'd love to find one some day. It was the first car that I regularly drove in a manual. Knowing full well exactly what they are, I still want a Geo Metro convertible.

That purple Geo Metro... there used to be one that regularly came into the shop (identical!), I always got assigned it, and it was embarrassing for me to be seen in (it was NOT designed for guys like me) the owner had us clean it up and sell it for him, this girl in her early 20s took one look and absolutely fell in love with it 3 days after we put the For Sale sign on it.

That was my grandfather’s Puerto Rico shirt, he gave me all of his souvenir shirts from trips he took in the 80/90’s, dad’s jacket (coors giveaway) and dads Suncloud sunglasses.

Ethan, I just want to thank you, it was a pleasure and honored to be an interviewee in your video along with my 1989 B12 Nissan Sentra. I was filled with jubilee when I first watched this with belated family for Thanksgiving. Kinda cool I was in the background of the guy's Datsun/Nissan 50th anniversary 300ZX. To clarify in your video, "that's the last engine I bought from them" was referring to a local engine and transmission sales warehouse, M&P Trade used engines and transmissions in Gardena, CA, that had the last available engine for my car. The second to last one was purchased two years ago in 2019 by someone else. I was told it was claimed to be a JDM low mileage import from Japan. (So is my car) Around 50,000 or so on the engine. It's a Nissan GA16i 4 cylinder 90hp SOHC 12 valve fuel injected 1.6 litre engine, coupled with the original equipped Nissan RN4F31A 4 speed manual transaxle. Unfortunately my car was involved in a rear end accident 2 days after the interview/Radwood on Monday, only my my rear bumper was damaged in the driver side corner. I was found to be not at fault for the accident and currently waiting on my insurance claim process. Hopefully I can get my car fixed soon. Thanks for being a good host , it was great talking to you. Great video! Love the new truck. I've had a '95 F150 in the fleet for a few years now. It's great. Many of these trucks came with no sway bars, or just a small front bar. A really nice, inexpensive upgrade is to install sway bars from a junkyard F250 or 350 from the same era. Combined with a decent set of shocks these old trucks can actually be turned into respectable handlers. Also helps with stability when trailer pulling, should you ever plan to use it for that.

Great video with cool cars and their even cooler owners. I think you captured a bit of the essence here. These cars (Radwood era) are understandable for and appreciated by a wide range of people. They are already quite reliable (even to daily drive) but still have something special in them to be desirable. And because you not necessary have to be a diehard mechanic to deal with them, a lot of different people try this experience . And if you look at all the people interviewed, you see this variety :D

It could be me, but i think that saab 900 owner looks quite like john candy. Who was a really good and fun 1980s actor, saab made some fun cars. Was always interested in a 900 or something, but the ones i see for sale here are mostly really high milage and the ones in great condition are expencive.

So many cool cars. 2 of them I’ve owned: ‘87 VW Cabriolet. Triple white and updated with a body kit from my sister’s wrecked ‘88 Cab. and and 2 “rare and no one cares” 88 Sentra’s : a 3 dr. Hatch and later a wagon. After suffering through most of my college years with a ‘78 Ford Courier the ‘88 wagon was Like driving a Cadillac!

I remember you talked to the Nissan Stanza owner. Did you get a chance to see that really clean black 1991-1994 Nissan B13 Sentra SE-R with 5 speed manual and Nissan SR20 engine? And the young man Tommy’s 1999 Lexus LS400 with a car phone. The 300ZX owner seems very knowledgeable on nissans kinda want to hang with him. He even came over to check out my B12 Nissan Sentra and was “nostalgified”.

A pulsar convertible is just down the road. It's been deteriorating for probably a decade with some missing glass. Also it's in Alabama. It's red! Also there's a first gen rx7 over there. I have my hands full with the 4wd stanza wagon and 350Z though. Also I'm fixing up my first car, the Echo which I will also keep forever. Love the channel

Wow, very cool! Congrats on that sweet F150 Flareside! Love the Pac Man suit too! So many rad cars there, nice to see the owners and their personalities. Hopefully you can catch up with the owners of that white 1985 Ford LTD LX, a car that's been on my bucket list since I was a kid. And that full size Dodge van with Japanese license plates looks interesting. I know they have quite a following in Japan.

Nice video, as always. Knowing your interest on unique 80s cars, even those you can't buy, I give you a lead to search about the SEAT Ronda, which was made at the end of the long-term relationdjkp between the spanish manufacturer and FIAT, and was a conflict between those two companies. It's kind of a interesting story.

in a sea of muscle cars ,its nice that some are still on the road , lot of these cars get 30-35 mpg on the highway with $5 gal gas why not . drive them ,my fav 80s 320i, celica gts, supra , honda crx , mr2, 300ZX ,90s Mita , viper , nsx, LC400 , infiniti g30 coupe ,supra

I've always been amused that they actually put a "flareside" emblem on that truck like no kidding or maybe I'm just weird how knows. I liked the csx although the performance wheels look comically small by modern standards. I was very surprised that the 87 accord was carbureted, I almost made myself look dumb in this comment lol

We were upgraded to a similar era Caddy during a family trip in Florida. Got a flat tire on the way to the airport, rental company didn't include the key to get those fortress-like wire wheels off. Entire family on the side of the freeway watched as my dad bashed the wheel with a tire iron. Eventually got it off. Made our flight but just barely!

Weird, no idea! I did notice that some people put show plates on their car for the event. But they tended to be period correct. 🤷‍♂️

@@HelloRoad That was a new California commercial plate front and back. I wonder how that got past DMV. I mean he had to get get a weight certificate to get those plates, so he had to have been OK with it but why pay extra?

those 1st gen vw golf cabriolets were called "strawberry basket" in german. go do a picture search for the german word erdbeerkörbchen. oh and maybe get some help with pronunciation ;)

I'm sorry but that Consulier owner is so full of it. It may have been good on the track, but the idea that it threatened the big 3 in the consumer market is just silly. It's not gonna get 30 mpg anymore once you add seats for passengers or anything that would make it remotely practical. And how is it "less profitable"? He never explains. Also I just find it funny that he disses other cars as "committee designed" when in reality two heads are better than one. No success story is ever attributable solely to one man. Which is probably why the Consulier wasn't a success story...

@@HelloRoad I absolutely wasn't. The white Cabriolet was the go to car for all the girls in my high school. They had just come out and they were littered all over the student parking lot. I was shaking my head that a man would say he was the owner of one.

I would totally drive that Cabriolet! And admit to owning it. And I'm a dude. Yeah, it was seen as a girl's car back in the day, but who cares? Especially now that it's at least 30 years old and retro cool.
