[ENTRY CAR] SUBARU WRX STI Type S Mercedes-AMG A 45 4Matic [DRIVER] DK Keiichi Tsuchiya MAX Manabu Orido NOB Nobuteru Taniguchi [STAGE] GUNMA CYCLE SPORT CENTER (GUNSAI)
best car show ever! its all about the car’s performance. western car reviews would talk about the interior and how nice the apple car play is for hours. meanwhile, these guys would be like, touge battle!
I would say that he took into consideration both Taniguchi's and Orido's arguments. He agreed the tire choice from the factory for the A45 was not as effective as the STi, but he also considered the performance they both gave, as well as the quality and characteristics of the cars. If you watch Orido's scoring he says the STi out-scored the A45 mostly because it's excellent bang for buck. You get 6 pots up front and supremely designed suspension and chassis along with a good tire choice from the factory, while the A45 was an overall more accommodating vehicle, with performance to match, but costs 3 million yen more, which isn't chump change. Tsuchiya basically said performance wise they're basically identical, but it just depends how much you want to spend and what you expect out of the car. You can either say the STi is better because it's nearly as performant as the A45 for 3 million yen less (nearly 30k USD) or you can say the A45 is the more complete package because you get the performance of a STi (which is an excellent bar to set for yourself) but you still maintain the luxury fittings and ride quality. The A45 they just released here in the U.S.A. could arguably have another leg up due to the A series Mercs having the newer MBUX system, which is one of the most advanced vehicle management/interactive systems in production, which pushes the technology gap between the two even further. But, you're going to pay some $$$$ for that tech. Overall, I'd say this is the most balanced race I've seen in this series aside from the Amuse S2k and the other one (I forgot the tuner's name, but it was several years back. An absolute epic battle that I think remains unresolved to this day).
Japanese people are honest and professional, even though their own country's car has lost to the german they proceeded to showcase that, to the finest detail. Love this show and the people!
Love the Hot Version Best Motoring ! Takes me back to the late 90s early 00s when we couldn't wait to get a new dvd release from these guys. DK, MAXX , Nob but where is Kazumi chan??????? Thank you for uploading this w/ english subtitles.
Thanks for the english subtitles. I really enjoy hearing these guy's opinions about the STI. Apparently they also agree that the STI needs more power to stay competitive.
300 HP for a daily street car is MORE than enough. I have this car and I do not understand why anyone would need to mod this to make more unless you're racing it on the weekends.
@@hybridAbsol With everyone wanting "performance" SUVs it doesn't make sense to compete in the Sedan market anymore. It's a shame that the racing spirit is lost in cars nowadays. In favor of huge mommy cars with 300+ hp but no cornering ability.
Thanks for English subtitles, I’m sad and nostalgic seeing how European cars are taking huge advantage against JDM, I mean have you seen rs3, new a45amg or m2 ? I’m Waiting for a new powerful Subaru
I expected new technology to give lighter, more fun sports cars. But instead we have heavier, more powerful and bloated cars thanks to pedestrian protection laws.
Subaru needs to push their risk curve and do some bold and out of the boundary stuff to revive the brand. (or is it the STI that need to man-up and fight against their finance department?)
the sti is still a powerful car keeping it close to amg power. another 3 grand spent on bumping subaru power to 360ps would have made a world of difference.
Would be interesting to see a modified WRX STI with similar power up against the A45 or any other AWD German competitors. In the UK motoring journalists have mostly written off the WRX STI as being underpowered and old fashioned compared to rivals. Subaru have given up selling it in the UK, probably due to massive popularity of German rivals here. It is well established the limits of the EJ207 so would be good to see if the chassis, drivetrain and electronics etc can compare when given a comparable amount of power. I wonder if perhaps the questionable reliability of the EJ held them back from putting more power in to it? Unfortauntely it feels that without a WRC car feeding the development the raw rally motorsports soul of it just isn't there and it can't compete in the days of sophisticated dual clutch gearboxes and electronics alongside strict emissions regulations etc. Hopefully the WRX STI doesn't go the way of the Evo but certainly seems that way, at least outside of Japan. Perhaps they are still selling well there? I hope so.
What cars are you referring to in that segment against the WRX? Here in the states the only other options are a Golf R (more expensive) and the Focus ST (not as good)
Interesting. In the US, we would never compare these 2 because the STI is the fun manual sports car while the A45 AMG, well that's not really popular and being auto most car guys don't even care about it but it's great seeing it get attention in this video!
If you know how to drive manual and are proficient it's VERY difficult to want an automatic sports car. Takes away a lot of the skill and thrill of driving a sports car. Faster doesn't mean better nowadays when you're comparing 0.2 second differences in 0-60 times.
To be fair, hot hatch VS Sedan does give the advantage to the Mercedes in this case. Shorter distance between axels as well as probly lighter car overall, it`s all you need on such a course
Next time out, let's do the AMG 45 4MATIC vs Impreza S203... IMHO, this will be an interesting head on, although one is more than 12 years old 😉 Nevertheless, good job to Subaru for making the VA Model a more well rounded car that's not just limited to the hardcore enthusiasts 🏆 Undeniably, AMG has also been exceptional in giving birth to the A45 AMG... It will go down in history books as one of EU's greats alongside the Peugeot 205 GTi, Lancia Delta Integrale & Audi Quattro from the yesteryears 🏆
I have lots of expectations from the FA24 engine - but Subaru needs to do is to develop a 3 to 3.5 L flat 6 engine for the STI. Something like a FA35 flat 6 would just turn the tables for the STI.
