oh my god what is this stage AAAAAAAAAAAAaalalsfsldfhsldkflksadhfklsahdfklhsdalkfh
Clear of stage 4 without dying, bombing or using any cards.
This stage without cards is easily one of the hardest Touhou stages ever made, if not the hardest.
The stage is completely nuts and the boss is ridiculous too. This took like 10 hours to do.
This is by far the hardest stage and boss in the game. Stage 5 is much easier and stage 6 is just really easy in general. It's like all the difficulty was contained in this stage and it gets slowly easier after it, like a weird reverse difficulty curve.
You know how most Touhou games have like one super random lottery moment, like the stage 6 spam in Touhou 7 and Peerless Wind God in Touhou 10.
Well this has like three of those just in this stage.
Used Sakuya because she is easily the best at the yellow spam and the boss, which are the most difficult parts. She struggles a bit in other parts because of no homing, but her strengths easily make up for that. She is hard to use but has the highest DPS in the game if you focus all of her knives in one spot.
Problem spots are the stage opener, yellow spam, the midboss, the blue spam and the boss's first spell.
Stage
- Stage opener: this part is kinda sketchy with Sakuya. The orbs spawn in random locations at the top of the screen and move down pretty quickly. You need to get rid of these asap before they overwhelm you. You can't always do this though, so the only thing to do at that point is making sure at least one side of the screen is clear while you dodge the rest. Feels like you always have to do some sketchy dodges on this.
- Green section: has new fairies spawning as soon as you kill the last one. By leaving the first one alive you make it so you don't get overlapping patterns.
- Yellow spam: this section is a lottery. Orbs randomly spawn from either the right or left side shooting random bullets. The difficulty can range from near impossible to trivial depending on how spread out they spawn. Sakuya is by far the best here because she is powerful enough to destroy most orbs in one pass, greatly decreasing the amount of bullets you have to deal with.
- Midboss: also known as the 'Centipede Filter'. This Jimbo orb is actually insane. Invincible enemy that shoots an aimed random spread of mentos combined with purple rings. The only saving grace here is that the purple rings are static. As well as that there is a safespot in the right corner for when it swoops low. For the beginning I try to misdirect most stuff to the left so that there is room for the safespot. This doesn't always work though, as there are also random bullets mixed in. Second hardest attack in the game.
- Blue spam: fixed ghosts that shoot random bullets with aimed mentos if you leave them alive long enough. I angle Sakuya's shot to the left here, hoping to take out the ghosts on the left quickly so that there are less bullets in the area I'm streaming to. This can be really hard depending on the RNG you get.
- Aimed orbs. Sakuya has to do this weird around the world strat but it's not really that bad. You can't really kill the big fairy before the orbs.
Boss
This boss uses unique yin-yang orb bullets. These come in small and big variants. The hitboxes on the big ones is RIDICULOUS, they are basically the entire sprite. So stay as far away from these as possible.
Sakuya shines on this boss because she can end all these attacks really fast.
- Spell 1: Hardest attack in the game. Another lottery one that bullshits you sooner or later so speedkilling is key, which Sakuya does best.
- Spell 2: Pattern where you have to escape through the gaps before it collapses into you. The initial burst is aimed. You can tell where the safe spots are by aligning yourself underneath the purple orbs. The hardest part here is just how small the gaps are between the big red orbs. If the boss moves down or too close to you it's best to escape to the sides to not get crushed. This pattern is not super difficult but it's really easy to choke. Sakuya can end this in only two waves.
- Spell 3: Random big orbs from the top with random small ones from the boss that bounce of the walls. This spell has an ABSURD amount of HP. The hardest part here is just how long it takes, which makes it really easy to lose focus and slip up. DPS really matters when a pattern has this much HP, Sakuya can kill this up to 7 seconds faster than Reimu.
All the nons are pretty easy fortunately. The orbs are always static and on the first non you only have to dodge the first ring once. The third non can be annoying if the boss moves down though. All shoot aimed mentos at you if you get too close to the boss.
