Today we are going into the Village to tour a 300 year old authentic Cape Cod Cottage. We'll also stop at the local Charity shop and find some things including wonderful Wedgewood Jasperware in blue and green.
I'm happy to share my 'surprise' tour with all of my new followers to celebrate 1000 followers. It's a virtual party. See the Autumn Colur and fall foliage in my New England Village.

DONT EVEN THINK OF SELLING IT. Once something is gone it is gone forever and I know from experience how devastating that can be later on. There is always another way round things. You would think that in retrospect. It is a darling cottage filled with memories.

Actually we have it off the market now because we are concerned only because I am the cleaner /care taker and as we might be starting to see my Mother in Law soon, who is older, We just felt that having out of town guests was a bit too risky for us now. We are prepared to bear with it until Next Summer not renting it (have to always prepare for down times anyway with rental properties) so, we'd most like get guests, but it's just not comfortable for us at present as we really miss my Mother in law :) If that makes any sense :) Thanks for stopping by tho.

What a lovely cottage! I grew up in a cottage in Dennis and had so many wonderful memories. Our heat was a wood stove my mother bought for $25 in Provincetown back in 1958. It was sold in 1966, much to my displeasure. I still live in Dennis but think of our little cottage often. I love Sandwich, it is such a beautiful town. Thanks for sharing your lovely little cottage!

It's so endearing as to how your heritage and closeness to family and family history warmly color your life and spirit. Holding close to the past is important to me as well since I still own and live in my old home place in the mountains when I want to have a nice vacation steeped in memories of my loving family who have all gone into Eternity. My 2 houses in town are my practical homes being a home inherited from my mother where she lived until she transcended, and then the other house is mine. All of my homes have enough comforting accents all about to make me feel hugged and warm. I don't blame you for keeping your cottage...it serves as a security blanket like nothing else can do. And it looks so very warm. I can only imagine your good times there and holidays. ...Thank you for inviting us inside for a spell.

Beautiful video. My husband and I have lived in Ma. Our whole life. He grew up in Plymouth. Our favorite thing to do is drive around on his motorcycle and look at all the old homes. I love that you have this as a rental! I’m looking this up 🤗

This is very much like the c. 1754 cape I grew up in on the coast of Maine, that was originally a tavern. These old homes have an enchanting spirit about them, I know. I hope you've been able to hold onto the cottage...

How lovely to own a piece of Colonial History, 300 years old. Love the pot for cooking stew in the open fire fireplace...I can taste the lamb, beef, chicken stew right now and am getting hungry for some old fashioned stew.

Wonderful..Lovely home..with so much charm and interest; American history. If the walls could talk..what would they tell us? I feel the cherished memories in this space..and I would love to own a cottage like this.. You are blessed to have the lemons and the lemonade! I do agree that your living room carpet has to go..TOTALLY disrupts the space.. An inexpensive, solid colored rug in a sage or light blue..to hide traffic dirt would do nicely..like the colors of your plates from the antique thrift you picked up.. The architecture inside your home is my favorite feature..the chunky, rustic wood beams..are amazing! I understand how you feel about your mom.. I lost my dear mom in October last year..I miss her too.. Thank you for sharing! Appreciate your endeavors.

Actually I have rugs and things in storage in our barn and I just put the 'nicer' things away as this was a rental, but part of our Christmas fun preparedness can be my getting some more things out and 'sprucing' the place up as we decorate and celebrate this Season. It's going to be an Old King's Cottage kind of Christmas :)

I have been turning my 30 year old trailer into french country pershian style but with my little twist of old stained baseboards and stained cedar trim I just bought a cameo blight blue and white trinket box at the thrift store I love cameos and old dishes oh that scarf could be a table runners to I use them for that to

So glad I discovered your channel and loved seeing your old historical cottage. Wonderful to see the old treasures and your part of the US. The city I live in (NZ) wasn't settled till the 1850's with many settlers being English. Unfortunately many old buildings were lost in the 2010/11 quakes. Loved seeing the Episcopal church. We've never had problems filling up before, in fact we'd fill up a year in advance, but the world changed and people couldn't come so one never knows. But, we are living in a different world now so I'll look forward with Hope and we'll see what comes from the future. Oh, Donna!! Thank you for sharing Old King's Cottage with us! I just watched the video a second and third time and notice something different in the cottage each time. What an amazing treasure! I am looking forward to other videos at the cottage. I got a little chuckle when I saw my Pfaltzgraff "Yorktowne" dish set at the charity shop. They were a gift in the 1970s and I still use them. Congratulations on all your new subscribers! You are getting close to 2000!

Oh yes, the charity shop always has an interesting mix, tho I've got actual old antiques there, as many of the congreation would sometimes donate things that were 'family heirloom' quality just because it had been gathering dust in the attics. So, it's good to have a look around a lot, which I used to do ALL the time prior to the New world we now have OH well, make Lemonade I say! :) Thanks for stopping by and see you at lalande. @Madeline S.

Lovely vlog. I understand how places hold dear memories. Lost my mom to cancer when I was a teenager. Still have everything she left me. Traveled and lived in over 9 countries, still have everything. Visit my old home, unfortunately couldn't afford anything at that time, but the new owners let me reminiscise when I visit.

That is so lovely that the owners of your old home let you go back and reconvene with your past, it's very healing. I'm so sorry you lost your mother so young. I'm lucky to have had mine for as long as I did, but what was odd is when she had Alzheimers at the end, it was as if she was gone and I had her ghost only with me, as she looked and sounded like mum, but wasn't quite. The world it built on birth and death and new and old and it's all part of a cycle, our trick, I think , is to learn to ride that cycle the best we can. I'm a native Cape Codder and really enjoyed your tour of Old King's Cottage! It's absolutely dreamy! Having a home on 6a is on my inspiration board....nothing beats that historical charm. I've never had the pleasure of actually living in an antique home here, save some weekends with my father in Wellfleet in the apartment above the old train depot before it was sold after my parents divorce. Even that was more modern though because it was added long after the building served as a train depot. I did spend many hours as a child running amuck in the main area that my parents had made into a small restaurant, ice cream shop and candy store called Happy Days. If only it lasted longer....my great grandparents, Cecil and Abby Newcomb, also owned an ice cream soda shop in Wellfleet, it's in our blood I guess! I recently went and visited the spot where their ice cream shop had been, the building burned down in the 70's and now it's a garden space on Main Street. October in Cape Cod is so lovely and magical, I hope Old King's Cottage can stay with you forever!!

So lovely to hear your story @ABeeSeas and you are part of the fabric of what makes up the Cape. Your familie's history and life here is woven in it's historical tapestry. I LOVE Wellfleet. We used to live in Eastham in the 90s near the National Seashore, was actually married at the Seashore there, and it's such a quiet different part of the Cape. The lovely rolling dunes and the narrow approach of the road an land mass as it moves beyond to Provincetown. I hope you can make it back again soon. I'm worried for many other small business here on the Cape as this lockdown has been a trail on many levels but for small local business it has been very hard indeed. @@DonnaDavisArt something in this salt air can fill our lungs with the tenacity we need when we need it I believe! I was driving to Provincetown to pick up an order from a local business before they close for the winter :) Due to health reasons, I haven't been able to work in my beloved early childhood education field. Since we are now forced to get remotely creative, I feel something moving in me, I believe I can figure out a way to earn some income right from home! That's what we all have to do, what we've done for years in order to thrive here. Keep working on this channel, it's really interesting and I bet it will grow faster than you can blink!

Me too. My New England Ancestor came over in 1630s and my hubby is direct line from John and Priscilla Alden on the Mayflower, so I feel like we NEED to keep this house for their sakes :)

I"ve shared some of the garden at Bunny Hall and the Old Boathouse that needs a lot of repair and some inside of bunny hall, like our ugly 70's kitchen and our view in the sitting room looking out to the sea. My sister and I watched this. We thought of renting it, only if the piano is available as we are accomplished musicians. We would play our piano and violin duets and of course make video of our creations. My sister speaks for herself but my impression was that we would all get along very well. This was worth sharing on social media. The more people who follow you, the more likely it is to keep and preserve your cottage. I consider people who do what you do as heroic, pillars of society, people worth following and supporting. Nothing but a tremendous gratitude pours forth from your artistic and colorful videos. Best

What lovely things to say, thank you so kindly @David Burton and I have answered your sisters comments in much the same way. The late Spring of 2021 shall be the reopening of the cottage to Airbnb rentals IF the world is such that travel and things in our State our acceptable to it. Whether or not I'd pay to have the pinao tuned (it's around 400 us dollars to do so) I don't know. I suppose it would depend upon how many people who play would enjoy it for the coming season. I am so happy to have met you and happy you are following me. For now, Old Kings' will be shared with all my followers in filming and dressing it up for the holidays or as a respite on our voyages out to see various Cape towns or antiquing for the day. I'm happy to share it all with you and was planning on it anyway and then I hit the 1000 mark and a few people suggested doing a premier and it just all seemed to make sense to share my darling cottage as my 'hurrah I reached 1000' mark haha. Another milestone in my life that the cottage has shared with me :)

Donna, thanks for taking us along on the trip to your beautiful colonial cottage and walking a bit to the charity shop! Everything was absolutely amazing and beautiful!!! I would so love to visit that area some day. When I first found you I was dreaming of taking our truck camper to visit that area but a couple of days ago coming home from a fishing trip in Arkansas, we were in a bad wreck that destroyed our camper and boat and probably totaled our truck. 2020 🙄! @@DonnaDavisArt my table and chairs were still in great condition, I advertised them for several months before finding a buyer. I have a small condominium and the set was a bit large for the room. My adult children host the family parties so I no longer need a big table. I swapped it for a 150 yr old round oak pedestal table and chairs I had in the family room. I need to start letting go of more things, too many pretties !

@Markell Williams we couldnt really let it at all last year, as we didn't feel safe and with our state's restrictions, but I may try again this year. The price is usually determined by airbnb when we list it, they have an algorithm that gives it a price based on what things are going for in the area.
