Not true at all and just shows how shallow you are. Mr. Keyboard warrior. The best mechanics have both expensive and cheap toolboxes depending on their preference. Your #1 tool is your brain, any good mechanic knows that. The tools help you get the job done. The toolbox stores your tools and whatever else you want to put in there. Did I break it down clearly enough for you? This guy seemed humble and is probably a very good mechanic. Congratulations on exposing yourself as a complete Tool.
Icon is great value for the money. But Snap-on has that heritage! Suggested new slogan for Snap-on: "Snap-on Heritage: Keeping Mechanics in Debt For 100 Years"
Tool boxes are out of control, i bought my Mac Tools Macimizer double bank top and bottom , used , key word for 5k amd that was 20 years ago, today same box is about 19k new , that is absolutely nuts. Can't expect newbies to drop money like that . Icon does the job IMO. Looks awesome!
I have looked at the Icon and US General boxes at Harbor Freight for quite a while. Since the Series 3 US General boxes have just been released to the stores this month, they had put the Series 2's on clearance. I managed to get a GREAT deal on a clearance priced 72" triple bank roller cabinet Series 2 in green like your Icon that was the last one/display a week ago. Pretty happy with it. I plan on buying the work center hutch and side cabinets when they show up in stock in green at my local HF because the Series 3 is compatible with the Series 2. This US General setup is replacing multiple smaller Craftsman stacked tool boxes. I would have liked to have bought the Icon cabinet, but since I'm not making a living out of the box I couldn't justify buying it. Besides, my pre-approved HF credit card would have left me over $1,000 short to be able to buy the Icon. Price comparison: on the Series 3 72" cabinet is $1,799 compared to Icon cabinet is $3,499. If you can find a US General Series 2 72" cabinet on clearance, they are $1,169...and if it is the last one display with a blemish, the manager may knock a little more off...and if you don't have a Harbor Freight credit card, you can get another 10 percent off of that with your first purchase...and qualify for 12 months same as CASH. Sheesh...I sound like a Harbor Freight salesman...LOL
been a mechanic almost 10 years. i love the "random crap drawer" comments. it makes me laugh because over the years i've had a couple drawers become dedicated to shit i will never use but refuse to get rid of.
Thanks for the video brother. I can't believe how people act when it comes to a box that holds tools. The snap-on fanatics will owe for the rest of their life making a dumb decision and because they made that decision they think they are superior, when in fact they lost in the long run. I've seen so many heated debates over buying HF stuff....the fact of the matter is, HF has changed and sell quality products for a fraction of the price. I won't care about the logo on a wrench....if it works it works!!!!
I'm retired from the trade now. Looking at these Icon boxes, I like them.I probably would of bought one if I was gonna keep working. Yep, I had my big huge Snap On box. I actually sold the box when I retired. Got pretty much what I had paid for it 25 years ago. I went and bought 3 cheap boxes for at home. It's all I need now.
The Icon Box line is really a High Quality Tool Box regardless of when the Hater's say. I have been in the wrenching business for a long time. I have owned SnapOn - MAC & Matco Boxes. regardless of money and name brand This box series is second to none.
I still buy off the truck every Thursday, your welcome brother, harbor freight employees 25000 us employees… snap on employees 12,800 and blue point is China, do some research bud
@@rosinsautofab1956 what about Cornwell, Mac, and Matco? all those tool boxes they make and sell all those US jobs? Harbor Freight and Amazon are going to be THE END for tool trucks. All the oldfarts like you who look o% intrest and bought a tool truck box then sold it and bought a bargain brand tool box from China then went on YT and bragged about it. YOU HAVE NO SHAME!
Also snap on floor jacks and many other rebranded snap on tools come from the same China factory, this was proven in a court of law when snap on tried to sue HF ! Your gonna have to go after bigger fish than me if you don’t like it, Corporate greed…. Not little old me
I picked up a US General 56 today. I’m starting a new job and I have a roll cart but this dealership doesn’t have built in tool boxes. I thought about the Icon but the price for the US general is what sold it for me, since it will just be a secondary box. Maybe I will upgrade to the Icon if my US General doesn’t hold up, or go for a Snap On. The Icon seems really nice and the prices are a lot better than when they first came out. Not a huge fan of the skinny drawers but I suppose you can get a larger drawer and put it in.
Not bad ,I love Snap On to, But to get that size of one through Snapon you're in it for 35k or more. And that's cash price just think if you finance it. With there bs simple interests witch is 21% 🤣 enough blabbering thanks fir the video.
Spends 13k on a tool box has it half empty talks about being a master fabricator....me dying lol I'd rather have tools than a giant box must be a compensation thing or trying to get validation for a questionable purchase.
Nice box, I lucked out & got a job at a dealership with the snap on toolbox’s integrated in with the lift controls or I definitely would’ve went this route
I met a guy at a NYS Stste fair horse show. Sitting outside his older motor home, telling me about his old modest yacht on whice he vacations on long Island sound to save money ($500 to fill the tank in 2010). His words were: " I'm not rich, my neighbor is rich, but I'm not". He told me his neighbor owned a carpet store along the Hudson.
@@truss6282 Not quite that simple. Have a wife, have kids. Make choices. Get beaten down. I'm sure there are a lot of facets of this guys life that allow his stuff.
Why do you have a thumbnail saying “typical Chinese garbage” then go on in your video to say you like it and say good things about it? It may work to get click views but not for me and probably others, when I encounter that, it’s usually an instant click on “do not recommend this channel”.
Yes ICONs are nice but so are the Generals! I have the 72' bottom & top and bought a Craftsman side cabinet in the same color as the General. Generals side cabs are not very large considering the price and I got twice the space for less money with the Craftsman cabinet.
Nice boxes. I just got the US general 72 and hutch. Probably add Locker. ICON is definitely a step up from the US general. But I'm not doing enough side work to justify the better Icon boxes.
What a nice set up and I’m not even a professional mechanic lol. I wanted to replace my crappy husky light duty boxes for a long time but up here in Canada, it’s either some HD boxes or other even shitter boxes from local hardware shops.. yikes! Guess time to drive cross the border this Christmas!
Snap On sucks. I’ve been a tech for 26 years now and I’m on my own now with my own business. I’ve worked with so many mediocre mechanics over the years that swear you’re not a “real mechanic” unless you buy Strap On. I can fix crap with flea market tools as long as they don’t break lol. Never worked at a shop that had a reliable Snap On dealer. Every couple weeks one would quit, then we’d have nothing for months and a new guy would show up for a couple weeks until he quit… Been like that for over 2 decades now, both in Illinois and Florida. Now that I’m on my own I’m really finding out how awful it is to try to warranty something without having a tool distributor (just as bad as not having one show up for months). I’ve called their helpline several times and have been told to wait 7-14 business days for an email on where to send the tools only for it to never come. The rep will not tell you on the phone, it’s the biggest bunch of BS. Thank God I don’t have many Snap On tools. One thing I will give them is that their ratchets are decent. Harbor Freight ratchets are pure dookie.
HF has a special design tool to config the box you want. This whole setup (Not including the box to the far right.) Is $8,343 and once in awhile if you wait they have coupons for 20% off tool boxes. Super good deal compared to snap on. This is a next dream tool box once I outgrow my husky toolbox .
I know this was a year ago but when you ordered yours did you have a right and left end cab part number? When I ordered mine today they only had one part number for it and I won’t them to be right and left
Which model Hougen do you have? Do you like it? I was just watching for the box review but I also happen to be a mechanical designer at Hougen. Nice vid.
It’s an older 904, I’d love to upgrade it someday. I love the hougan, I use to do emergency industrial repair/ millwright work, I drill a lot of 3/4” holes through 1” base plates and it really makes it easy, I just purchase a 65 ton iron worker so I don’t use it as much lately. Thanks for watching
All that money and the drawers don’t have a decent locking mechanisn/latch on everything.. they pull open too easily and only way to lock them is to turn the key… Nobody but Masterforce has a easy lift lever/handle across every drawer that lets you open the drawer each time but then self locks… Masterforce is the only one I’ve seen with a lifting lever that selfs locks when closing, Icon, Milwaukee, US GENERAL, And almost nobody else has this amazing feature, lol Milwaukee and many others don’t even lock properly, they have a useless soft closing feature or like the US General it only lets you unlock each drawer from a tiny lever on the far right of the handle and it’s a cheap plastic mechanism… man if you guys want some great heavy duty boxes go buy some Masterforce boxes for $1400 and you won’t ever buy another box again
You can adjust how easy and head they open by a dial on the slide, my snap on had a grip latch system that you move dot one side with your finger tips, I like the icon setup better, I’m happy for you that you found a tool box brand that you love and it works for you!! Thanks for the comment
After 12 years in this trade I’m almost 30 and I could understand 10 years ago not buying harbor freight stuff. The quality wasn’t there yet but anymore for the price there is a lot of companies that have done me more justice and support and made me money far more then any tool truck brand. I use to be a mac tools junkie but even making 120k a year I can’t justify spending tool truck money on most of my tools just so some ppl will accept me. I was always told by the wiser techs it ain’t the box or the tools in it it’s the tech who’s operating out of said box that makes it a good box or not my boxes are us general and my tools are a mix of brands very minimal amount of tool truck stuff left.
Yes sir, same hear! I spend the money where it counts and with my 22 years as fleet mechanic for a marine construction company and out local power utility I like to think I’m a pretty good judge on a quality tool and box seeing as how I have put my tools and myself through some pretty extreme situations. Thanks for the comment brother!🇺🇸💪🏽
@@rosinsautofab1956 yessir thanks for replying! You have a beautiful set up and one hell of a beautiful collection of tools! As long as your satisfied with your tools that’s all that matters! Keep working hard and putting those tools to good use. Stay safe and blessed bubba!
I mean yes you don't have to have Snap-on or Mac even though I have a little of both to get the job done. Somebody told me the other day when was the last time you repaired something for someone and they said oh did you use your Snap-on tools to fix it good cuz that means it's fixed better... boy did that guy have a point no one has ever asked me what was the brand of tools that I used to fix something with😅
What was the organizers you have for the pliers? I recently just finished getting the two overhead cabinets to complete my set up. Sold my Matco boxes and was still able to pocket some extra cash
I may end up with the US General version just because I can get it white. I’d do green but I preferred the green on the Series 2 US General. And probably the 56” Also, what did you do with your power tools there over the 56”?
the american way. if it aint broken buy something else cause its just newer. waste money, errr I mean helps the economy to move forward. i had a craftmans small box. i waited and waited for it to break. then one day, 20+ years later my movers dropped it. broke it. then I bought an icon myself. and I didn't buy a huge one. just one that can match the current one. more space means more things you'll want to fill it up with. i don't even need half the stuff I have now. I'm trying to sell off what I don't need now.
That may all work fine for you but I own a business and the way that tech grows requires me to buy specialty tools etc.. to get the job done, a tool box like this is an investment, the more organized you are the faster and better you are at completing jobs, the better and faster you are the more money you can make and happier your customers can be with less down time. If my customer came into my shop and saw one 20 year old craftsmen box they would most likely think they were at the wrong shop, They would probably be right. My old box wasn’t broken, I sold it to a young apprentice that will get many great years out of it for a good price, it was my time to upgrade. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching 🇺🇸 That is the American way…. Work hard have nice shit
In Canada there are cheaper brand sockets that cost around $30 I haven't been on a tool truck in a long time so not sure what snap on sockets go for here anymore.
I so want to buy that box. Every time I'm in HF I roll those drawers open and shut. It's those 3 shallow middle drawers. What were they thinking. All but useless. What're they for ? Files and punches chisels maybe .I don't think my screwdrivers would even fit. 3 of those drawers? Maybe 1 ok. Redesign it. I'll buy it. I have the 5 drawer roll cart , green , with ALL the accessories , including 2 sidetrays. It's awesome. Replaced the fixed casters (2) with turn casters as suggested (shop environment) Da bomb. HF rocks. I'm so over most of Snappys tools esp the sockets. The boxes , sheesh like u said, who the hell is buying those things ?
You can buy drawers separately fairly cheap. I’m planning on replacing a couple of my shallow drawers and getting another end locker and adding an additional 4 drawers to that.
The knowledge part doesn’t seem to be a problem for me after 25 years and counting, the organization and speed I can get the jobs done is how I maximize my profits, you are correct y til a certain point and then it’s all about efficiency
DID YOU BOLT THE 56 BOTTOM TO THE END LOCKER I NOTICED BOTH HAVE THE CASTERS I HAVE A 56 COMING AND TRYING TO SEE IF I HAVE TO REMOVE THE CASTERS ON THE END LOCKER TO BOLT TOGETHER ALL THE PICS I SEE HAVE THE CASTERS REMOVED ON THE END LOCKER WITH A CABNIT ON BOTH SIDES THANKS A MILLION AND HAVE AN AWESOME DAY
I bolted the 56 to the end locker yes, I left all the caster installed as they were from the factory, use some anti-seize on the bolts, I had to remove it one day to evacuate for a wild fire and one of the bolts galled up from the powder coat in the hole and I had a hell of a time getting them apart, good luck 👍🏻
Bought a Epiq 84" with the 3 long drawers for 4.5k. The guy took terrible pictures and it looked like a 60". Called and confirmed it was 84" he got a job on the oil fields and need to sell because he has box standing outside. When I got there it was literally standing under a tree on small farm. Got papers and proof it was paid off. Saw one with a locker SS top, hutch all drawers. It was a custom order stand for nearly a year before it sold for 10k. Box was less than a year old. Husband passed away and the box was paid off through tax deductions. They are out there.
Too bad the other color boxes don’t have the black trim. When they do I will definitely be looking into one! Also love what you did with hanging all your DeWalt stuff. Thats awesome!
@rosinsautofab1956 Can you buy a set of black handles and change them? I’m looking at getting one of these. Ive way outgrown my ancient Mac MB1500/1510
Looks pretty , but I have the same amount of tools in my little 26” craftsman toolbox stacked three high. Kinda seems like a waste of $13k and wasted space when I can fit probably more tools in just 26” x 6’ high.
@@rosinsautofab1956 I doubt Icon could put out a box with a full width top drawer that could withstand the weight of being packed full of sockets like the KRL1033 or KMP1033. Icon claims an 8000lb capacity. Sure the castors are rated for 8000lb total. I'd like to see what happen to that box with 8000lbs in it. It claims to be comparable to a KMP1023. It falls 4 inches in depth shy of that comparison. Sure it's better value, but its hardly better overall quality. It's not hard to hold up to empty drawers. 🤷♂️
Ya lol, I’m only 1/2 way moved in, and a lot of tools are in a cart that’s in another part of my shop on a project, I like a few empty drawers still… I have another 25 good years of wrenching still in me to accumulate
Yeah the issue was resolved it was a problem with the school it ended up in a different department with out in a pile of miscellaneous tools so my instructor never knew about it so yeah I’m glad it wasn’t snap on though there was a few more tools I wanted by them and I was like ugh I don’t wanna get them now but yeah
Crazy howyour box is set up just like mine and it's not a mess I hate that it makes me crazy I got a pull cart I work out of its got most stuff I need to get started then get whatever then when done I clean and put it back and start over on new work Same as clean the floor and then start new and bolt or thing on the floor belongs to that car or project...can't work messy it makes me crazy I hate going to a boxand digging for a socket
Yes sir, I spend just as much time cleaning and organizing my shop and tools, people always ask me how I get jobs/projects done so quickly…. I don’t spend time searching for tools. Thanks for watching
Yes sir plus your not working in a s$it hole of a shop.i can't take a mess of a shop tripping over things. Trying to fine sufff don't see how people do it .don't take long to clean up and new jobs new job ...I have a roll cart I got most of what I need to start air tools on the bottom anything more just go grab it and easy to see what iam missing any of my tools. No free tools with every joblol
Im beginning to think all tool storage is over priced. Really just need one small box for wrenches and sockets...the rest can go into nice looking storage cabinets right near the box for much cheaper. 3m roll around carts are durable and hold alot of easily accessible tools/spare parts when needed. Just roll the cart up to your box and grab what you need.
That green looks killer bro. The more I look at the green the more I like it. Hell, I wouldn't even mind switching to kawasaki bikes just to match that.😜
The tools only need some place to be put and if that's what your pocket could afford. That's what you buy you're not getting buried in it unless your wife is gonna chop you up and put you in it I would do the same. Thing I don't have to impress nobody my workmanship. Does please comment back if you feel the same?
@@rosinsautofab1956 Good luck with ever you do in your work area. And you stay with what you know? You don't. Have? To. Show off? Tool boxes? Or win any competitions for a tool Box. Really. Your workmanship works and makes it all worth it as long as it holds all your tools. That's all what matters
